Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Underneath by Kealan Patrick Burke (but I can't find the link) - ok but dismal and no characters I could warm to. I also read M T McGuire's prequel to the L'Barthan Trilogy. Unlucky Dip. Daft way round to read things, I know, but I found it a good example of her style and there was a taster of Book 1 at the end. It would be a good way to try her out.

Kate (littlekate1) | 574 comments Feeling completely spoilt by the choice of bookclub reads and the challenge of trying to read the work of authors in this group. I've read two of the three books this month Solitary Pleasures by Nell Grey and Mark of the Dragon Queen by Katie W. Stewart . Both very different yet really good reads, looking forward to the discussion threads (with spoilers) opening.
I'm now getting immersed in Fake Kate by David Wailing and am enjoying it much more than I did 'Bang'.

message 2312: by Kate (new)

Kate (littlekate1) | 574 comments I wasn't too keen on Bang, it made me realise what a closet romantic I am lol. Would def recommend Fake Kate though :)

Now reading Adventures in Pharmacy - had a moment of indecision over my non fiction, so went for the shortest!!

message 2319: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished reading Bang: Memoirs of a Relationship Assassinlast night, I enjoyed it and found it well written.

This morning I read a short story, Danburgh Castle which was a pleasant read. Now I've started Torbrek ... and the Dragon Variation since Katie has got me in the mood for reading about dragons! This story is written by Lexi Revellian though. I've only just started it but am liking it so far.

Reaper Man was one of my favourites too, Jud. I'm not that great a fan of Terry Pratchett but I did love this one - I loved the way Death spoke in capitals, little Death of Rats, and the little girl who could see through his disguise and called him a "skellington"! Haven't read it for a few years though. Have the paperback in a box somewhere..

:0)

Oh yes, and the fact that Death's horse is called Binky!!

message 2322: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yea, the ones with Death in them are my preferred ones he's my favourite character (so far). Binky gave me a chuckle every time it was mentioned

message 2332: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Just finished Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly. The usual breathless, littered-with-bodies Harry Bosch adventure. He doesn't seem to slow down and I estimate he must be about 60 by now as it is 40 years since he was in Vietnam.

Then I spotted Best Foot Forward by Susie Kelly. This is about her walk across France from La Rochelle to Geneva. Sounds as if it has something in common with my own adventure so I have just started reading it. She seems a little unprepared for the walk but it is well-written and entertaining.

Not sure when it took place but she is talking francs.

As Katie got me interested in dragons I'm now reading Torbrek ... and the Dragon Variation by Lexi Revellian. It's very well written and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! Maybe you could give that a try Emma..?

message 2336: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments Got to agree with Karen. I have loved all Lexi's books and would tell anyone to give them a go. I was really surprised when she did fantasy but all her books are 5 starrers in my opinion. I have her book of short stories but haven't read that yet.

message 2337: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Just read Shaun's Dead World and really enjoyed it. Think I'm going to start a DTB now. Found a Karin Slaughter book I hadn't read whilst packing. So will be dipping into A Faint Cold Fear

message 2343: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Last night I finished Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs by Kathy Reichs and I've started reading Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult by Jodi Picoult this morning.

message 2344: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I read Danburgh Castle which was a real departure for me as I don't usually read romance. I quite enjoyed it and do recommend it to our romance lovers who are looking for a short read. I also applaud Catherine's choice of only having a page or so of links at the end, rather than a sample or pages of other stuff at end of the story. I'm really disappointed to see the addition of loads of rubbish at the end of short stories happening more and more frequently.

I've now started Yellow Crocus. I'm only at 4% and already hooked.

message 2345: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished reading Torbrek ... and the Dragon Variation which I really enjoyed and highly recommend. It's very well written, full of surprises and witty.

I'm not sure what to read next, Stella has been raving about I'd Sooner Starve! on facebook, so I'm giving that a go.

Hello G (or C). Thanks for that. I am enjoying it - it is quite droll. I have also heard from Susie and she is reading my book so there is some symmetry here.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh thats pretty cool Vic - hope she enjoys yours too!

Nicola Palmer | 255 comments Just started 'Abide with Me.'
Just given up on 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell' for now. For me the beginning was tedious. Perhaps I'm too impatient, but the book was so long that put me off!
