I've just finished reading Mummydaddy which was an incredible read, about how a family deals with the unthinkable when it happens. It was uncomfortable to read but compelling.

Now I'm reading something much lighter which I'm enjoying very much. Don't Look Behind You!: A Safari Guide's Encounters with Ravenous Lions, Stampeding Elephants, and Lovesick Rhinos. It's a light, fun read that you can pick up and put down.

It's a beautiful, amazing story - wasn't too sure at first but suspension of disbelief came very fast and I lived with those dolphins. Tui's desciptive powers are enviable.

I have been visiting a friend, so the 5 hours travelling meant I managed to read a decent amount. Finished Hostile Witness before I went, the ending was great, and certainly didn't see that one coming. I struggled to get into it, but think that was just with what I had on at the time. Then read The Flinch - dont know why I downloaded it, the synopsis doesn't really indicate to me what kind of book it is, and I wouldnt have bought a self help book - the cover was fantastic though. IF you want a self help book that will take about 15 mins to read, it might be worth it.

Then read While the Savage Sleeps by Andrew Kaufman - absolutely fantastic read, would definitely recommend it, and well worth the £1.97 he is now charging. Nice, sleepy town that has a series of bizarre murders - very descriptive murders too. Another one where you didn't see the ending coming, but a very good ending, hard to imagine it is a debut book. There is also an excerpt from his next book, which is definitely on my wish list for when my tbr list is shorter.

Now reading Suger and Spice by Saffina Desforges - as it is a nice day, I should get a decent way into that.

I finished Shadowland. It could have been much better with proofing (and I'd have suggested some edits too) but it's an interesting take on an old tale.

Just started An Orc Not Like Others by Our Lad Darren after recommendations here. I can see why they recommended it! I love a different viewpoint and this really is!

Edit - I did notice, incidentally, that the 3 existing 5* reviews for Shadowlands were from people who had't posted a review of anything before. I think he's just got his first honest review!

As a late comer to the 'loving our authors' challenge that Lorraine started, I've been focussing on reading books from the authors in this group. I read some short stories Beat on the Brat and Other Stories in the week which were great. This meant I had Cruel Justice #1 for the weekend. I've figured that I need time to read Mel's books because they can't be put down once I start reading them. If you like crime fiction you will love Mel's books.
I've now started Flux.

I've just finished An Orc Not Like Others by Darren. It could have been fairy-tale, Beauty and the Beast, Shreck. It SO was not! What a hard hitting story this is, just below the surface. It made me think of the "Am I not a Man and a Brother?" quotation and picture. Darren can write funny fluffy stuff but he can't half write deep stuff too.
