Gwennie (blessedwannab) You're stranded on a deserted island, but luckily it's with the 5 books you cannot live without! What are they, and why?

Wan (wanwaddell) | 143 comments Aroma with Love wrote: "stranded for how long?"

LOL.

message 4: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha, indefinitely. You have no idea how long you'll be there, or how soon someone will find you.

message 5: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jul 18, 2011 02:22PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) This is going to be hard since most of my reads are series. I could probably take Outlander number 1 and read it like a standalone. Maybe Anna and the French Kiss. I'll have to ponder.

message 6: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Hmmmm interesting question....

message 7: by Leea (new)

Leea 1. Outlander
2. The Bronze Horseman
3. A Kingdom of Dreams
4. Mistress of Rome
5. Dummies guide to surviving on a deserted island :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Haha Leea. I like your number 5!

message 9: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Haha nice number 5 :)

message 10: by Leea (new)

Leea It's funny but I waisted a good book on that laugh ladies :) This question reminds me of the Outlander group, where they asked what would you take with you back through the stones... so hard to answer.

Great Idea Wendy!!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You can use duct tape for anything and everything. It can hold things together, make repairs, waterproof something, etc.

I'd have an industrial sized roll of that, preferably not silver though.

message 12: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha, I love the dummies book too. Pretty ingenious.

I have to thank Teresita from the Outlander group for this one. And it is a hard question, you notice that I didn't answer it yet, hahaha! I'm also pondering.

message 13: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Archer (cjarcher) | 95 comments Only 5??? Well - my favourite series has 6 books in it (Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles) so I'd have to pick one to leave out. :(

message 14: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yep, unfortunately.

message 15: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments This isn't a set in stone list but...
1. Tithe
2. Great and Terrible Beauty
3. Dark Lover
4. This Lullaby
And five is a hard choice between Project 17 and Forget you....

message 16: by Gwennie (last edited Jul 18, 2011 04:42PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oooh! You put Dark Lover up there. I can't wait til you read Lover Eternal.

Okay... here I go...

1. Outlander (Big Surprise)
2. Lover Eternal
3. The Sherbrooke Bride
4. Shadowfever (ugh... I want the whole series)
5. Jellicoe Road

That is so hard, it's killing me to not find a way to include Saving Francesca, The Piper's Son and the rest of the Fever series.

message 17: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Hehehe I have Lover Eternal on my shelf! I was ordering a few books and had to get it!

message 18: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's on my list of favorite books ever. I was so caught up in the story that it literally prevented me from sleeping at night.

message 19: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Haha oh wow good to know!

message 20: by Circe (new)

Circe (yoshimama) | 12 comments 1. The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson , because there's 4 interconnected stories into one (so that's like having 4 books)

2. The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte by Syrie James The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Brontë by Syrie James , because the imaginative life of Charlotte Bronte would inspire me to create my own stories while stuck on this island.

3. The Second Duchess by Elizabeth Loupas The Second Duchess by Elizabeth Loupas , because if I'm going to be stuck on an island, I'd like it to be with a dark, sexy, mysterious Duke. :)

4. The Vanishing Point by Mary Sharratt The Vanishing Point by Mary Sharratt , besides a gripping storyline, there's some great primitive survival tips that can be learned from this book.

5. The Flesh and The Devil by Teresa Denys The Flesh and the Devil by Teresa Denys , because Denys has an amazing ability to transform you into another world. Plus the book is freaking long, so I might be stuck on the island longer than expected. At least I'll have a long book to keep me company.

message 21: by Dianne (new)

Dianne (des03) | 30 comments This is so hard!

1 Ransom by Julie Garwood
2 The Flame and The Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss
3 Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas
4 The Endless Forest by Sara Donati
5 The Thorn Birds by Colleem McCullough

The first four books are my comfort reads...the books automatically open to my favorite pages they have been used so often. The Thorn Birds for
sentimental reasons - this book started my love of reading, it is a wonderful story set in Australia and it is a very thick book, so I would have hours of reading.

Leea I'm getting great book ideas from this thread... Love it!!

message 24: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Hmm, I have it narrowed down to 10, but I am having trouble making cuts! lol

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Voyager (Outlander, #3) by Diana Gabaldon Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward Cowgirl Up and Ride (Rough Riders, #3) by Lorelei James Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Rough, Raw and Ready (Rough Riders, #5) by Lorelei James Smooth Talking Stranger (Travises, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper Here Kitty, Kitty! (Magnus Pack, #3) by Shelly Laurenston

ok, to be fair I will go against my will and choose 5...

Voyager (Outlander, #3) by Diana Gabaldon HR- Love Jamie, and I guess Claire too ;)
Rough, Raw and Ready (Rough Riders, #5) by Lorelei James Erotic Menage, so hot!
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins YA- Such a cute story
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper PNR- Hilarious!
Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward PNR- Love Rhage :)

message 25: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha, I'm getting great ideas too. Like now I want to really read How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf and Smooth Talking Stranger.

(Megan - LOOOOVE Rhage & Mary!)

message 26: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Well it was between Rhage and V, but I like Mary better than Jane. The ending still bothers me! lol

message 27: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I love Jane and V. There book was so good to me, but none of them came close to Rhage's book. There are scenes in that book that are some of my favorite's ever. Like (view spoiler) Oh man, now I want to read that book again right now!

LOL, and that it why I love Rhage :)

I love all the brothers though, its so hard to choose

message 29: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's funny because Rhage's book is my favorite, but he's not even close to my favorite brother. I'm a Z, Qhuinn, V girl.

message 30: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments My favorites are V, Rhage, Qhuinn and Blay (and I cannot wait for their novella!)

Ok, I might have to kick a book off my top 5 and add Lovers Destined by H.M. Broussard , I know its fanfic but I love it :)

message 31: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I haven't read it. I've heard good things, but I can't bring myself to read it. I want to read Ward's version before I have a fanfiction in my head. Plus, I like Saxton and I know he's villainized in that one.

Did you read True?

Not yet, but I need too. I have the link for it.

message 33: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It was good. I liked it alot. I have a PDF of it if you want that for an ereader (if you have one.)

Yeah, PDF would be good, I have a kindle. I heard its really good :)

message 35: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) If you want to PM me your email addres I'll forward it to you.

message 36: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 438 comments Hahahaha narrowed it down to 10! That would be awsome!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Getting it to 5 is hard. I had to leave off a few of my all time favorite books because even though I love them, they're not necessarily ones I'd want to read over and over, and I guess if you're stuck on a desert island, you have to go with ones you can read several times.

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon - because it's long and therefore would be one I could savor a bit at a time.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - because it's fun and easy to read

Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, #4) by Richelle Mead - because it has one of my all time favorite love/sex scenes

Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson - because I love the story of how this couple met

Rock Me by Cherrie Lynn - because I have to have at least one book that is at least part erotica, but also want one that has a story in it that I wouldn't mind reading over

message 38: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm going to read the Kincaid books. Then finish the Night Huntress books. Then my next new series is going to be Tairen Soul. I'm ready for it.

message 39: by Amy (new)

Amy Only 5? So hard. Okay let's see........

He Loves Lucy: one of my favorite books where the main character is not a skinny gorgeous female. She's overweight going to work out and lose weight because she has to for work!

Twilight:Edward, vampires, Bella. Enough said.

Starcrossed: all about Greek mythology with a starcrossed romance.

Forgive My Fins: mermaid romance that's kind of quirky (like I tend to be sometimes)

The Peach Keeper: all over great read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Wendy F wrote: "I'm going to read the Kincaid books. Then finish the Night Huntress books. Then my next new series is going to be Tairen Soul. I'm ready for it."

*cheer!*

Just for that, I'll be reading Jellicoe Road. Oh wait, that was the plan anyway. :p

message 41: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha, it was the plan. But I'll give you credit for it anyway. A trade, one of my favorites for one of your favorites.

message 42: by Katie (last edited Jul 20, 2011 10:19AM) (new)

Katie Tierney | 2 comments I had to sit and really think about this...

1.Gone With the Wind
It's my all time favorite, I have an 18 year old daughter named Scarlett, and my grandma had given me her old worn copy she had gotten in the 40's.

2. The Mummy (Or Ramses the Damned) by Anne Rice
One of my all time favorites. I adored Ramses, and I hoped she would put out a sequel. I'm still waiting...lol

3. I would have to close my eyes and randomly grab one of the Mallory-Anderson Family books written byJohanna Lindsey I love them all too much to just pick one.

4. Another closing of my eyes and picking a BDB book, though I have to say I would leave out Lover Mine..I would hate to be stuck with JM and Xhex's book to read repeatedly...blech. And as much as I adore Rehvenge, I think if I'm stuck on an island it would have to be with one of the brother's stories.

5. Acheronby Sherrilyn Kenyon...misunderstood demi god who was thoroughly abused physically and mentally by the people who were supposed to protect him, slaughtered by the goddess he fell in love with, pretty much given a crap job of controlling a group of souless Dark Hunters, meets quirky girl who calls him Papa Smurf when he gets all demi-god like. Fantabulous epic adventure/love story.

OK, I have rewritten number 5 at least a million times. If it's ok? I would like to be stranded with my kindle? And rescued before my battery dies.

I wish I could say that. My Kindle has a ton of books on it, but all my most favorite books I own in print. I'm too addicted to the gorgeous covers and the smell and feel of pages.

Mona Ingram (monawrites) | 24 comments 1 - Four Fires by Bryce Courtenay. There's lots going on in this book and he writes divinely.
2 - Blue Horizon by Wilbur Smith. For the same reason. Great family saga/adventure/romance story.
3 - Anything by PD James. To make me think.
4 - Second book of Dragon Tattoo series by Steig Larssen. Too lazy to go to my bookshelf and figure out which is the second one!
5 - Anything by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. One of the best romance writers out there.
Interesting comment about Kindle vs. Books. I now write "Indie" Contemporary Romance for Amazon but I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I walk into my library alcove and see all those books.

Mona, I just recieved Blue Horizon in the mail... Im glad you loved it, makes me more anxious to read it...

message 48: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) 1. Some sort of medical book to help me figure out how to treat and take care of injuries and illnesses.
2. A book on building things I will need to survive in the wild and recognize weather patterns.
3. Outlander (the series, I am cheating here) Clare has some great tips on how to live without any modern amenities.

I don't know what else!

message 49: by Grace (new)

Grace | 1 comments I love all types of books, but I'd likely take with me the Classics, and preferably , those I haven't read yet.
5 books isn't enough, lol, so I'd take something like this:
1: The Complete Works of Jane Austen
2: The Complete Works of Fyodor Dosteovsky
3: The Complete Novels of the Bronte Sisters
4: Complete Charles Dicken's Collection
5: The Bible, lol

They're all "one" book each, lol

message 50: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I like your thinking Grace. :)
