Trevor (clevtrev) | 38 comments I finished up my reread of A Feast for Crows. The 12th can't come soon enough.

Next up is Legend by David Gemmell.

Counting Heads (Book #1) by David Marusek

I just started Counting heads by David Marusek. Hope to finish it on the long flight home.

message 53: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (jkeene) | 95 comments Almost half done with Day by Day Armageddon. Fast, enjoyable zombies for summer!

message 55: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 38 comments I finished reading Legend. It's a flawed but enjoyable heroic fantasy novel about a besieged fortress.

Next up is A Spell for Chameleon. I want to squeeze in one more short novel before ADWD and this was lying around.

message 56: by Helen (new)

Helen I've just finished Deadline, haven't decided what I'm starting next. Really beginning to want to reread Martin but I know I'll be cross when I end on a cliff-hanger and have to wait a decade for the next title.

message 57: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 80 comments Just finished reading an ARC of Neal Asher's upcoming novel The Departure ( reviewed posted here).

I loved it and it seems as if 1984 was a huge influence for this latest offering.

I haven't decided what I'm going to read next. Perhaps it's time for some horror.

message 58: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin July appears to be 'read for school month'. I'm reading Montesquieu's Persian Letters, Voltaire's Letters on England, Rousseau's Confessions, and some classics on the side.

message 59: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Travaille (shelbyone) | 17 comments I'm about a quarter of the way through The Lord of snow and shadows by Sarah Ash.

message 60: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 264 comments Going to read The Coming Race by Bulwer-Lytton which was published in 1871, must be one of the oldest ScFy books.

message 61: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 418 comments Wait, Bulwer-Lytton? The "It was a dark and scary night" guy? He wrote something readable? Do tell!

message 62: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin Sure. He also wrote The Last Days of Pompeii and that's considered a young adult classic. Perfectly readable. Loved that book as a kid.

message 63: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (beniowa79) | 383 comments I just finished Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey aka Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. It was a pretty good solar system space opera and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Will be picking up A Dance with Dragons tomorrow.

message 64: by Evilynn (new)

Evilynn | 331 comments *cracks open A Dance With Dragons* :D

message 65: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Starting to read A Dance With Dragons hopefully in about less than two hours.

message 66: by Scott (new)

Scott | 152 comments I'm done with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

My son has been trying to get me to catch up with him on the Harry Potter series so I guess that I'll start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

message 67: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Scott, I think that's pretty cool! Go Dad!

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished up the third Metrozone book, Degrees of Freedom, by Simon Morden, and right now I'm reading Catalyst by Paul Byers, a WWII thriller that is ok, but as a fan of WWII history (especially WWII aviation history) I've found the book a bit lacking in some areas. After that, I plan on picking up Leviathan Wakes.

message 69: by Bill (new)

Bill Currently reading Tragedy at Law, a British mystery by Cyril Hare and A Short History of Nearly Everything, sounds self explanatory. I bought it for the missus for Xmas a couple of years ago, as she enjoys his style of writing and thought I should finally read one of Bill Bryson's books. I'm enjoying both so far.

My son keeps telling me the same thing. He says that the Bean books are even more intricate than the Ender series, and that the character development is amazing. I might have to start reading them...

message 71: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 264 comments Stormhawk
I'll let you know what I think of The coming race when I've read it. Taking it to work, tempting fate I know.

message 72: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 38 comments Finished A Spell for Chameleon. It was better than I expected but it didn't have enough good qualities to overcome the bad.

I just got home with A Dance with Dragons so that's next!

message 73: by Zen (new)

Zen (ZenRoskelley) I started Foundation this morning and am already sucked into the story. I just finished Children of the Mind so my mind keeps wanting to read Trondheim instead of Trantor.

message 74: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (beniowa79) | 383 comments No new posts in five days? Wow.

I just finished A Dance with Dragons this morning. I didn't get everything I wanted, but it was still a heck of a read. Great book!

Next up is Fort Freak.

Nice! Have you read all the rest of the Wild Cards books?

Yay Foundation!! I'm about half way through the series and I love it all. I've been eager to finish the series, but I got caught up in the Song of Ice and Fire series and then I joined Goodreads and there are so many Group Reads I want to do! Hopefully I'll continue with Foundation's Edge soon, or Forward the Foundation which I didn't realize was a prequel until later on. I don't know if I should go back and read Forward the Foundation (I LOVE Hari Seldon) or go back to it after reading the last two books. Decisions decisions!

message 78: by Kit (new)

Kit After going to see Harry Potter this weekend, deciding to run over to Half Price Books to shop. My libary never seems to have a copy of the reading selection of the month. I found a copy of Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars for $3.50 each. Hope the series is good!

Where does everyone else buy books? Amazon is always great-but I like browsing sometimes-especially when they have sales.

I used to always buy books at my local Borders but sadly it closed down (although not all sad- they had AMAZING sales!). We still have a Barnes & Noble but I haven't been there too much because I'm trying to slow down on buying books. I've been trying to read books I already have and those available at the library. I did recently acquire a Kindle so I've downloaded a lot of classics for free. It's nice that ebooks are cheaper. I also have a few local independent bookstores that are fantastic but I don't get to enough. I'll have to go after my next paycheck.

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

Benjamin wrote: "No new posts in five days? Wow."

I was busy reading Dragons. I took extra time with it, moreso than I normally would with a book. It was good.

But I'm still somewhat irrationally angry at it.

And now I don't know what to read to keep me busy until Ghost Story hits.

Same with me!

message 82: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Ala,

Have you read The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making? It's a little bit nonsensical, (think modern generation of Wonderland), a little bit of an homage to classic fantasy, and a celebration of being just an average kid. It reminded me of why I love fantasy. Perhaps it may cleanse your palette before Ghost Story.

Best of luck!

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

I might give that a try. But it's so short.

May need a standalone SciFi and maybe something funny to read as well.

message 84: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 154 comments I gave The Case of Charles Dexter Ward another try and now I'm getting into it.

message 85: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Oh, for sci fi (it's the first in a new series) I LOVED Leviathan Wakes! And it clocks in at 561 pages.

For funny, I always enjoy A Lee Martinez. Most recommend Gil's All Fright Diner as a starting point. Each of his books are standalones.

If you're looking for a serial killer story with a supernatural twist, I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells is a great page turner.

Hope you find something great :)

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Alright Laurel,

I'm taking your suggestions and they will be what I read until Ghost Story.

Start with Fairyland, than Leviathan, than Gil's(which looks very promising, btw).

If I don't like them...well... ಠ_ಠ

message 87: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Ala, as soon as I'm done Dance with Dragons, I'll read whatever books you recommend. Give me a list!

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

We're all picky readers :P

Laurel, sounds like a plan. I'll take a gander at your shelves later(that sounds so bad) and see what you have/haven't read yet and give you a couple rec's :)

I loved this book! Just finished it last week. A great summer quick read for fun.

Nathaniel by John Saul Bright Orange for the Shroud by John D. MacDonald The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney Live and Let Die by Ian Fleming The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

I've read the first three and all the recent ones except FF obviously. I have a bunch more of the older ones, but haven't gotten around to them yet.

Jensownzoo | 200 comments Maria wrote: "Just finished Ilona Andrews, Magic Bleeds (I'm running one book behind in the series on purpose. I hoard this series. It's my favorite.)"

Mine too. One of the few authors that can make me want to re-read a book immediately after I've finished it.

message 97: by Jensownzoo (new)

Jensownzoo | 200 comments I just finished The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee, which my brain is going to be chewing on for a few days. Would be a lovely book for discussions.

I've checked out Embassytown by China Miéville and Running with the Pack (anthology) from the library, so will have to finish them by the end of this month.

Would also like to finally finish the Harry Potter series...I have no idea why it has taken me this long, but I like to read the books before seeing the movies and I'm several movies behind the one that just came out. If I don't get my rear in gear, there will be no surprises left for me since everyone is talking about it!

message 98: by Trevor (new)

Trevor (clevtrev) | 38 comments Finished A Dance with Dragons last night and loved it.

Now I'm reading Mockingjay.

message 99: by Kit (last edited Jul 21, 2011 06:48PM) (new)

Kit I starting Brandon Sanderson's "Way of the Kings." I have read most of his other series. I really like his work.
