This was a Newbery winner and I have to say that it was fantastic and definitely deserved the award. It had this fantastic air of mystery and was just written so well it pulled you into the story. Loved it.

My review here. I don't think it should have gotten the award as I didn't think it was very well put together. It was a clever premise, but I don't think it was pulled off.

I read this book in high school but didn't like it much, and read it again for a group read and actually really liked it. I'm not sure what made it better this time around. I also curiously recalled reading an incident the first time around that wasn't actually in the novel when I read it this time. I'm not sure if that was just me, or if it was an edition thing that was later edited. I might just be crazy. ;)

I think that a lot of the books we read in high school are too mature for us. There are just too many life experiences not had to appreciate certain subjects at that age. I had a pretty middle-class, white-bread upbringing, and had no ability to relate to a lot of what we read in HS so I hated it...

Janet Frost 1.15 Hush, Hushby Becca Fitzpatrick This book was rated 5 stars by WT member Jennifer W. Actually there seemed to be quite a bit of buzz about this book in the WT discussions, so I thought I would give it a try. I am not really a paranormal romance fan but this challenge is about stretching ourselves. Sadly, I was pretty disappointed with this book. I rated it a 2 and that was generous. The writing offered nothing very literary or complex. It was a story with very formularic style and dangerously close to the Twilight series. Sorry I wasn't impressed.

I didn't LOVE the book as much as I'd hoped, but admittedly I am a tough person to please with a finale. 1.15Going Bovine– rated by Maria – This really didn’t seem like a book I would enjoy. Everything led me to believe I would dislike it, but I am happy I picked it up. Voices from a Medieval Village(I’m not sure if this one counts because it was 96 pages instead of 100). - I thought this was an interesting book, but considering that it was supposed to be a children’s book I didn’t really thing it deserved the Newberry medal. It just seemed a little too complicated to actually be intended for children… but I found it interesting. (96 pgs)

2.25 -- Ship Breaker – This is exactly the type of book I liked to read, and I enjoyed it much more than mockingbird (which actually won the award). I might be slightly biased because I just enjoy dystopian books, but I found Ship Breaker much more engaging. (326 pgs)

Mockingbird – The story was good, but I really just do not enjoy these types of books. I understand the sentiment, but I couldn’t find myself drawn to the story the way I would a good adventure… it was very well written though and deserving of the award, it just wasn’t my favorite and I wouldn’t read it again.
