Reading Challenge #9: Report Points Here

ALA list here.
My review here. I don't think it should have gotten the award as I didn't think it was very well put together. It was a clever premise, but I don't think it was pulled off.

I read this book in high school but didn't like it much, and read it again for a group read and actually really liked it. I'm not sure what made it better this time around. I also curiously recalled reading an incident the first time around that wasn't actually in the novel when I read it this time. I'm not sure if that was just me, or if it was an edition thing that was later edited. I might just be crazy. ;)

I think that a lot of the books we read in high school are too mature for us. There are just too many life experiences not had to appreciate certain subjects at that age. I had a pretty middle-class, white-bread upbringing, and had no ability to relate to a lot of what we read in HS so I hated it...

I chose this book because it was on my TBR list and Kristen has it listed as a five star. And, up until the very end, I would have agreed with her. As I said in my review, though, the ending just completely pissed me off, so I couldn't rate it as highly as I otherwise would have.

Emily rated this book five stars, and since I'd loved the first two I had to finish the series.
I didn't LOVE the book as much as I'd hoped, but admittedly I am a tough person to please with a finale. I rated it 4 stars because there wasn't really anything I could complain about, but I am leaning more towards 3.5. I think that Cole and Isabel kept me involved this time around, not Sam and Grace. I sorta fell out of love with them.

1.15–Going Bovine– rated by Maria – This really didn’t seem like a book I would enjoy. Everything led me to believe I would dislike it, but I am happy I picked it up. I wouldn’t say I loved it so I wouldn’t give it five stars, and I probably won’t ever read it again, but it was rather entertaining. (480 pgs)
Genre Bonus: Humor
1.20 – Stolen: A letter to my captor – I thought this was an interesting read and deserved to be on the WT top list. The execution of the ‘letter’ format and using 2nd person was interesting and different from anything I had ever read before. (299 pgs)
Genre Bonus: Suspense
1.25– Fade (248 pgs) and Gone (214 pgs)
2.5 – Catching Fire – A good book, and I would say that it deserved the award, but I still don’t think it was anywhere as good as The Hunger Games. (391 pgs)
Genre Bonus: Action/Adventure
2.20 -- Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village(I’m not sure if this one counts because it was 96 pages instead of 100). - I thought this was an interesting book, but considering that it was supposed to be a children’s book I didn’t really thing it deserved the Newberry medal. It just seemed a little too complicated to actually be intended for children… but I found it interesting. (96 pgs)
Genre Bonus: Poetry
2.25 -- Ship Breaker – This is exactly the type of book I liked to read, and I enjoyed it much more than mockingbird (which actually won the award). I might be slightly biased because I just enjoy dystopian books, but I found Ship Breaker much more engaging. (326 pgs)
Genre Bonus: Sci-Fi
Mockingbird – The story was good, but I really just do not enjoy these types of books. I understand the sentiment, but I couldn’t find myself drawn to the story the way I would a good adventure… it was very well written though and deserving of the award, it just wasn’t my favorite and I wouldn’t read it again. (224 pgs)
3.5 -- Wake (210 pgs)
