The Bone Code, Temperance Brennan #20, Kathy Reichs. March 2021. April 29 pre ordered iBook .

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs returns with her twentieth gripping novel featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, whose examinations, fifteen years apart, of unidentified bodies washed up from the sea may be connected to a deadly new pestilence.

Between both her locations two cases, do they connect, I especially enjoy all the parts in these 20 books set in Montreal but this is a good page turner as always and great science......

The Night Gate, The Enzo Files #7. Peter May. Pre ordered. March 18, 2021. 4/5.

The first of what I suspect will be many books set during this long Covid pandemic with Enzo retired but asked to assist with a cold case and a new murder happens.......
Good series....

Thomas (tom471) | 427 comments I read Grandad, There's A Head On The Beach by Colin Cotterill

message 1219: by Sam (new)

Sam (samgold77) | 2 comments I am reading "The Water Knife" by Paolo Bacigalupi.
It's not because this dystopian science fiction nightmare is particular relevant to today's news...but simply because I had been planning on reading this for some time and finally got around to it.

With that said, this is a novel about the impact of climate change. It takes place in the draught ravaged Southwest part of country and the tribal behavior that states employ when desperate for water. There's a marketing blurb for the book that describes it as .."part Chinatown, part Mad Max".

The description of Phoenix, Arizona in the book is really disturbing and then I heard on the radio that today that city actually hit 115 degrees for the fifth day in a row. Needless to say this is a scary book that has it's roots in today's reality.

message 1220: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (tom471) | 427 comments I read book 11, I Shot the Buddha in the Siri Paiboun series by Colin Cotterill
It is full of quirky characters set in late 1970s Laos. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The British author now lives in Thailand.

message 1221: by Raistlin (new)

Raistlin Skelley | 3 comments After coming off a big run of Westerns and war novels, I'm running through books that are noir, but with less detective-work, both old and new. Right now I'm on Crash by J.G. Ballard which is not a mystery, per se, but I think definitely falls into the neo-noir category. Like a mashup of William Lindsay Gresham and Jim Thompson on steroids.

message 1222: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (tom471) | 427 comments I read Red Bones by Ann Cleeves
I rate it 4 stars. It is book 3 in the Shetland series, and I recommend that you read them in order. The central character admits that he has trouble explaining what a "Procurator Fiscal" is. I have included a relevant quote in my review.
