I recently finished Sandman's Dream Country, which I loved, and The Underground Railroad, and realized I had started about 5 books during my convalescence, so I am trying to finish them; Red Mars, The Redeemer, Broken Monsters, Blood of Elves, and City of Illusions... I need to finish some of these so and get on to my 'next up list'

Dan | 381 comments Looking over his oeuvre it looks to me like Jonathan Moeller couldn't write a word of science fiction to save his life, but if you like fantasy he makes a number of his works available electronically for free. That's really cool: https://www.jonathanmoeller.com/write...

CD | 112 comments Currently I'm reading Permanent Record by authorEdward Snowden. The memoir of the NSA/CIA contractor/ employee that revealed secrets of the USA surveillance state.

Additionally the book This Is How You Lose the Time War is on the reading list.

Brick Marlin Really enjoying Starsight! Brandon Sanderson's writing and storytelling is incredible! I'll probably dig into his fantasy series.

Yes! I hope you like it. So few people that I know have read Sunburst or know that the award is named after it, but it is a longtime favourite of mine.

That is one great book! You shouldn't be disappointed. I've been a huge fan of Terry Pratchett's for quite some time. I've read almost every novel set in the Discworld series, plus his other works.

I am loving it so far; although I'm aware that The Colour of Magic is very raw and is simply a novel of Terry finding his feet, I can already really picture his settings and the humour is absolutely spot on and certainly matches my humour and outlook too.

I'm just curious as to what Discworld series (Rincewind, The Witches, City Watch, etc) you would recommend next. I hear that it's probably better to find a series to read rather than read each book chronologically. Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic will set the scene for me and I like the idea of jumping into Guards! Guards! as part of the City Watch series as I hear it's more political and just incredibly well written and good fun.

Guards, Guards would indeed be a good starting point.

message 2294: by CD (new)

CD | 112 comments Finishing up The Starless Sea. The author, Erin Morgenstern, also wrote The Night Circus.

This one is a further dip into the realm of fantasy time travel, shifting realities, the magic of Fate and Time and a few other things . . .

message 2297: by Robert (new)

Robert | 45 comments I just finished: A Song for a New Day

which I highly recommend -- especially to read in our present reality.
A good book, story -- and something to think about where things might go in 10-15 years.

quick quote from the description:
public gatherings are illegal making concerts impossible, except for those willing to break the law for the love of music, and for one chance at human connection.

Jukka Pihlajaniemi (helmouth) | 1 comments I just started reading the 2nd part of Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy. The Three-Body Problem was absolutely brilliant and an excellent reading experience. Hopefully The Dark Forest will be a worthy successor!

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 76 comments THE DARK FOREST is probably even better! You’re in for a treat...
