Nadine | 252 comments Ok, home from work I just spent a nice hour in the garden catching up on my reading :-) Probably won't finish a book today...

message 104: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) Nancy, you're like me - I like to read several books at once. I have to be careful that the genre/plots aren't too similar, though, or I get confused!

Ann A (readerann) Day 2 Report:

Finished The Innocent - Glad it's done, as I didn't like it.
Read part of 2 others.

Day 2 pages total: 222
Running total: 601

Good luck with Day 3, everybody.

message 106: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Flanagan | 224 comments day 2 - have finished Middlesex at 556 pages, and am starting The Book of Taltos
Good luck to you all

message 107: by Joanie (new)

Joanie (joaniemaloney) Only finished Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry, just a small read for 2 days of reading. Haven't been able to get much done because a lot of family's come by for the long weekend. Plus I chose Say Her Name by Francisco Goldman and I didn't realize how long a read that was going to be. The writing's beautiful but oh, so much sadness.

message 108: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 252 comments Books read: 2 finished that had been read halfway, 1 read completely

Pages read Day 1: 325
Pages read Day 2: 215
Pages read Day 3: 162

Pages read altogether: 702

Book List
1. Ray Bradbury - Fahrenheit 451
2. Beth Revis - Across the Universe
3. Birgit Rabisch - Duplik Jonas 7
4. Maria V. Snyder - Inside Out

Inside Out is very catchy, very similar to Across the Universe in some ways, I am lucky I seem to have picked some great reads for the marathon that keep me hooked. Are you happy with your picks so far?
I will however go to bed in a bit, almost midnight here in Germany. Happy reading to you!

I know what you mean. Sometimes, though, there are eerily similar things going on in two or more totally different books. I'm usually reading anywhere from 5 or 6 to 10 or so. Then I usually get hooked in one of them, and just finish it all at once.

Ah isn't is great to limit the TBR pile (and make room for new ones ;-) ) ?
You are fast! 888 pages already!

Ann A (readerann) Report on Day 3

Completed Challenge #6 -Island Beneath the Sea Really liked this one.
Read part of 2 others.

Total pages for the day: 210
Running total: 811

It's not enough. I want to read more! Although, let's face it, we'll never be able to read ENOUGH!

I'm looking at what everybody else is reading, and wanting to add more books to my TBR list - am trying hard to resist!

message 121: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 252 comments Haha, Ann, I think a lot here are taking part in the marathon to shrink their TBR piles, imagine we get so many good ideas in this group, we end up with a higher pile, even though we read a lot during this week!
I am 30 pages or so from the end of Inside out and I am glued to the pages, just wanted to check my mails...

message 124: by Nancy H (last edited May 25, 2011 06:28PM) (new)

Nancy H | 561 comments I didn't get much done last night, but tonight I finished challenge #4 book, Kira-kira by Cynthia Kadohata. It was really good and was well-written. (Of course, what would I expect of a Newbery winner!) I liked that it was written from the point of view of the sister of the girl who was sick, because all too often, those children are not given a voice.

message 125: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 185 comments So much for being hyped, life got in the way for the past few days, but I plan on spending the next couple devouring books. My progress so far:

1. The House of Tomorrow (304 pages)
2. Dark Delicacies: Original Tales of Terror and the Macabre by the World's Greatest Horror Writers (339 pages)

message 126: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 15 comments So I've decided not to do the challenges, just focusing on reading as much as possible! Here are my books so far:
Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back
Torment
Evermore

for a total of 916 pages. My goal is to finish 5-6 books this week, so I'm halfway there!

message 127: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I didn't finish anything last night but I am hoping to finish two today.

I have decided to not do the mini-challenges this time as well, but please don't stop having them, I love them! I just didn't need help this time around picking out what to read. :)

message 128: by [deleted user] (new)

Not going so well...why do I keep getting invited to do things during read-a-thon week? I was never this popular before...Why this week?!?!?!

message 129: by Heather (last edited May 25, 2011 08:28AM) (new)

Heather | 62 comments Finished my third book and most likely the only one from the mini-challenges. I agree with Jennifer... even though I am not doing the mini's this time, please keep them going in the future. I love to see what you guys come up with.

3. Not-quite-a-chunkster When You Dare 448 pages

message 131: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) Day 4 Report

Didn't finish anything.
Pages: 178
Running total, pages: 989

Currently reading:Special Topics in Calamity Physics For challenge #1/#7 - I'm really enjoying this, but may not finish it this week because it's not a quick read and I don't want to rush it. On page 234/514.
The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle- For challenge #4. This is kind of silly, but still entertaining, and I can see why someone had the idea it would make a great movie! I think I will make reading a Newbury Medal book a personal challenge for each Read-a-Thon. On page 184/276.
The Crying Tree - For challenge #3.
On page 62/353.

Hope to get through more pages today (I'm counting 24-hour periods starting with 11:00a.m. MST last Saturday). I enjoy reading everyone's comments. Keep up the good work!

Michelle Stockard Miller (michelleamiller) | 22 comments I am failing miserably at this read-a-thon. =O( I have not finished ONE book. I have read parts of three different books which are A Game of Thrones, John Adams, The Crimson Petal and the White, but no significant number of pages. I will finish one book today, Promised Valley Rebellion, because I'm on a blog tour tomorrow and have to have my review up for that.

Let's see if I can salvage the rest of this week. Wish me luck!

Sally, if you read this, you are probably kicking my butt in the duel! Just like I said you would. =OP

message 134: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) Way to read, Nadine! We're at about the same page-count. I was hoping for 2000 pgs, but am not going to make it this time.

message 135: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 252 comments Look at my decreasing page numbers :-( This is my first week long marathon and I thought I would be more successful. But right now both of my current books are quite dull. The Lost Saint had been half read for ages and I really wanna finish it now. Enclave is ok, but I am not really hooked. All the other books were really catchy and marathon or no marathon I couldn't put them down for long.

I get what you mean. I didn't even know a book like this existed until I saw it on the blog and then two days later at my library. This was one of those surprising reads - I had no clue what to expect from it and ended up loving it so much.
