Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments Finished Nerd in Shining Armor. *sigh* I know this is a pleasure read and I usually have no problem with willing suspension of disbelief for a good read but I found this book to be too unbelievable. There was nothing totally fantastical going on but i found the character's(even with their "edges" and hidden uncharacteristic) silly and vexing.I gave it 2.5 stars.

AlbertaJenn | 0 comments I will be two buddy readings this month.

With Anna, I will be reading Undercover.

And with Mandy, I will be reading Surrender. I can get it for my Kobo, so I can buy it at any time.

message 403: by Tiffanny (new)

Tiffanny How are you looking in your reading for your different challenges? I'm going to the library this week to try to get a few of the books from my list =) I was thinking about the buddy read again, and I'm still up for anything on the list that we have in common. Is there one in particular the jumps out at you? I'm looking to read Entwined, Dash & Lily's book of Dares, Shadow Princess &/or Slow Dancing on Price's Pier. I'd really like to read Betrayal and Switch as well. Do any of those sound like something you would be interested in buddy reading?

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments I finished my buddy read Hot in Here by Sophie Renwick last night. This is my favorite erotica so far. The author did a great job on the characterisation and that helped me like and feel empathy for the characters, which I find is usually lacking in these stories. I gave it 4 stars.

I'm looking forward to it to, this will be a new author for me. I've heard great things about her. Tuesday sounds great! Do you want to discuss the book through PM's or should we start a thread?

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Hey Vi - Finished my third pick, Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, #1) by Deborah Cooke , which I enjoyed: 3.5* because, while I loved the world and storyline, I didn't feel as emotionally invested in the hero/heroine's relationship as I would have wished.. It seemed too rushed to me.. I'll definitely give the second book a try though, since I loved the premise! Thx for the rec!:-D

Read Enchanted, Inc. (Enchanted, Inc. #1) by Shanna Swendson and finished it on Sunday, 6-5-11. Fun and easy read. Katie was an interesting character -- a human so normal that magic spells don't work on her, not even the illusions used by magic users to hide their identity. As an immune she is valuable in finding concealed clauses in contracts, invisible intruders, etc. The various characters at Magic, Spells & Illusions, Inc were also interesting. I'll definitely be reading the next book in this series.

message 413: by Stormy (new)

Stormy | 144 comments I finished Broken yesterday and I LOVE LOVE LOVED it. Thanks so much, Tiffany for the great recommendation.

message 414: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (teacher2013) KarenH I finished Outlander yesterday. I liked it. I can't say it was my favorite read in the world. I really found the heroine kind of annoying and had a hard time getting past that. Still, I'm happy that I have finally sat down and read the first book since it is so popular. Thank you for your recommendation! I'm starting Nerd in Shining Armor today!

Ok Autumn... just finished Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh and it was all I expected, wanted, whished... and more!!
5 shiny stars and here's my review...

aaawww!, such a sweet love story!
I hadn't liked a book in this series as much as I did the first one, Lucan is soooo sexy and romantic and so very very alpha!... so the news about Lucan and Sascha were just an added bonus.
But this book was amazing, the building of the story, the characters and the writing were all great, Singh is such a talented author, she makes it so easy for you to get involved.
I liked Mercy a lot, I totally could relate to her strugle and fears... and Riley is HOT!

I don't know why but I always imagined Hawke something around his 40-50´s, so when it was suggested that he might bond with Brenna, who was 17 or something like that, was kinda creepy, but here I start to see that was a bit off.

MountainKat | 31869 comments Fran and I did a buddy read of Freighter Flights. I'm not sure what I thought of it, it felt incomplete to me. I gave it 2.5 stars.

message 417: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2803 comments Sarah, Melanie and I completed our buddy read of Kiss of Fire. We did not love(in fact, a little underwhelmed) the book but will be continuing the series. The average rating was 3*.

I have that happen every now and then as well Vi, it's why I need to continually check and re-check people's posts to see who's read what or signed up. I think it happens mostly when two people are posting at the same time.

I'm listing buddy reads in the message after the picks are made - don't forget to check them out to see if there is anything you're interested in joining.

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi Valerie~Varuca, I forgot to tell you that I read Something About You last week and I loved it. I recently read Just the Sexiest Man Alive and I really liked that one too, but I was very happy that Something About You was a completely different book. It had a different feel altogether, as if it were written by another author. I love when an author can do that.

This was the first month in a long time that I put so many picks on my TBR so I'm certain I'll be getting to some others soon, just maybe not this month.

Thanks again for the great picks!

Just checked the library webpage and Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano is in transit to me. It's from one of the further out libraries in the system, so it might take a week to get here. I'll let you know as soon as I get it in.

message 434: by Heather (new)

Heather (messybar) | 189 comments Dee wrote: "@ HEather - how was undertow? i've never read Cherry Adair before"

Hi Dee!
I liked Undertow. Zane (male lead) was one cocky, persistent hero and Teal (female character) was one stubborn, gutsy heroine. I did want to strangle them both from time to time, but that means the writer is doing something right to get me to care.
I thought that the suspense was a little much toward the end, but enjoyed it all the same. Will be checking out the next book in the series soon!

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments Sandy,
Just finished "One Day," so glad I read it. Very sad, at least they knew they loved one another though. In books like "The Bicycle Dancer," someone dies before the other realizes their love. Thanks for the pick! I'ma start "Garden Spells," next along with the other picks.

I was looking and it's becoming a movie! I hope it's good. Perfect reading timing.

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments Well, I started You've gone too far this time, Sir!, but I am not too far into it. So I picked up Kiss of the Highlander and finished that in a couple of days! I really liked it.

I also just picked up Games of Command and The Talisman Ring from the library to hopefully read this month as well!

message 442: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24358 comments Sue: Glad you liked Kiss of the Highlander - you are getting into the better end of the series with that book IMO...

Hope you love the next two books (Games of Command and The Talisman Ring) as much as I do. Both pretty different to 'Kiss OTH' and each other, so I'll be interested in your feedback :)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I finished up The Mane Event which was my recommendation from SheSwitches - really enjoyed it and gave it 3.5 stars - I didn't realize that it was actually two books in one...lol!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Kerste, the first book finally came in from the library. Stranger is started. The book is set in Annville, PA. I lived 1.2 miles west of Annville three times in my life. 1975-76, 1978-79, and then finally 1993-2000. The town (including the incorporated twp) has a population of less than 5,000. I believe there are eight churches and one bar in town. There is an orthodontist on the main street that has his name in foot high gold letters in the front window, "I.M. Long". Made me laugh every time I drove by it. The stream that runs through town is the Quittapahilla and is one of the finest trout streams you've ever had the pleasure of seeing.

I just thought I'd let you know that I was reading the first of your picks and that I have a particular tie to the setting.
