Jackie (thenightowl) Random Thought: I just want to let everyone know how much I HATE financing and accounting! One more week and I'm done with it. Yay!

message 303: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Congratulations, Jackie! I signed up for a whole career of it !!

(It's okay, though...)

:)

message 304: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) LOL...I have a new found respect for you then. I'm just so not a math person. =/

I'm having a hard time grasping some of the concepts, particularly when it comes to stocks. I understand it when I read it, but as soon as I walk away from the material my mind goes blank. It's like my brain just mentally vomits it back up. ugh.

Angela | 1934 comments Is that a class you are taking or are you referring to your job?

message 306: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) It's a class I'm taking. I'm pursuing my MBA and it's a much dreaded required course. I would never take a job in finance or accounting and I don't think they would hire me either, unless they want their books to be messed up. lol.

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) Today in downtown boston, there was like this "college welcome bus" or something like that and they were like doing some sexual health awareness thing. And they gave out these bags, and as me and my bf started walking away I went through them here's what they contained:

1 cup that says "I passed the sexual health challenge"
1 magnet that says "Lets talk about Sexual health"
1 "scratch ticket" for $10 off at planned parenthood
1 Temp Tattoo that says "Sexual Health Matters" in a heart
1 Business card for planned parenthood
2 condoms
1 Designated driver thing so that I can get free soda and bottled water from certain restuarants when I show it to them
1 Bruins bumper sticker
1 credit card sized bruins schedule
1. Boston Globe Pen (I will work for them one day...maybe make them not such a democratic paper...make them more like the Boston Herald).
1. ATT Phone holder thingy

out of all of that, within atleast the next 1 1/2 years, and probably the next 10 or so years, I'm probably only going to use the pen, bumper sticker, the calendar and the designated driver thing.

Joanie | 714 comments I think it's great that they're giving that stuff out around colleges. I'm from MA too
(just south of Boston) and I went to a Catholic college and we got nothing-NOTHING. A friend of mine went to Simmons and they had baskets and baskets of stuff. Because there is no sex in Catholic colleges? So silly.

My random thought is that since I went to Canobie Lake Park today (my father-in-law is retired from Gillette and they do their family outing there every year) and it rained and rained, I now smell like laundry that has been left in the washer too long before going into the dryer. Despite the sentch, here I sit because it's the first quiet moment I've had all weekend and I can't drag myself away from the computer long enough to unstinkify myself. Gross, I know!!

message 309: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) I have like tons of homework to do...but no motivation to do it....

message 310: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) I just got approval to have my curfew extended on Nov. 4th so that I can follow the voting at the McCain HQ. Now...does my foster mom know what I mean when I say extended? (voting doesnt end until like 8 so once that reaches the west coast it will be 11 here...so yeah....I may just spend the night there, lol)

message 317: by April (new)

April (escapegal) | 130 comments Very cool, Lori! Our training department was just 'downsized' so the workers had the option to transfer...needless to say, of the 3 that chose that route, only 1 is left (and she's counting down to retirement). I'm sure the added day will be filled with glee and you won't even notice it!

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Congrats Lori!!
I know what you mean about supervising. I am right there with you. I'm a manager now and only have 3 professional people who report to me but in a previous job I supervised clerks. I swear it was like being back in highschool. It is like they were more interested in fighting with each other then doing their jobs.
It drove me nuts!!
Now you can go in your office, shut your door and put your feet up!

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
DOnt get me wrong, Kellie, I still have to interact with everyone, Hell... im in the training dept, but yes, like you said, I can go into the office and shut the door for a little peace and quiet. Its great!

Just curious
Where do you work?
Just curious about a place that took so long to give their employee a chair.

message 328: by She'Davia (last edited Sep 16, 2008 07:28PM) (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) I'm so excited for next Monday. The Bruins play their first game...against the Canadiens...so much fun!

(well its a preseason game, but it will still be exciting)

I work for TJ Maxx, in thier distribution center. I was a supervisor there for 3 years and just got a job in thier training dept, so I no longer work in production (walking the floor, monitoring the associates, pushing to get a number). Now I will be working on the floor along side the supervisors with special projects, set new hired supervisors up with a training plan... should be lots of fun!

I get an office within an office in the middle of the warehouse, but the window (yes, I have a window with the chair heehee) only looks out into the hallway of the outer office. Hmmm...

Hard to explain, but Im so very excited!

message 332: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) LOL.....This is my first ever cat that loves to cuddle!!!!

Its 2:30 am and I can't sleep!!!!

message 333: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Lori..
Ahhh... TJ Maxx. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law love that store.
Sounds like you are moving up in the world girl!
Congrats on the new position, new chair and new window!
I have a chair, an office with NO window. Hate that!

Kristie & Ken
I grew up with cats too. Ours didn't cuddle much. As a matter of fact, some of them were just plain mean!
We did have one who we called "the mighty hunter". She used to bring home dead mice, birds, chipmunks...The thing is, she would do her hunting at night. Once she caught something, she would bring it home and howl at the front door. We actually had to get up, open the door and praise her for her find. Then she would pick it up (whatever was left) and take it somewhere to finish it off.
Cats are a strange species....

message 334: by [deleted user] (new)

My daughter's cat has started sleeping with me and she is 19 1/2 pounds. She sleeps on my ankles so my feet fall asleep. Glad to know this is normal!

My dogs are the one's that bring home dead animals! But they get sick if they try to eat them, i can't tell you how many dead animals i've had to wrench out of their mouths. it's gross! i would rather that cat get them but she is an indoor cat.

message 335: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Congratulations, Lori! I just got the news, but better late than never. OOOh, you're gonna be able to watch the leaves change, and the snow fall!! Watch people run to their cars with no umbrellas! You are in for some FUN.

:)

message 336: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Sadly, Laura, no, i wont. Even tho I have a window, it only faces into the hall of the outer office. Its planted smack in the middle of the warehouse. ho-hum.

message 337: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Well, then you can enjoy spying on the warehouse employees. Kind of pretend you are in an episode of "The Office".

Do you like your new job, though? Is it more or less than what you expected?

So far I am training in the functions that I dont currently know, so that I can be more of a help when someone needs me to be....

Its weird not being tied down to one department, not addressing my old associates... but yeah, I like it!

message 339: by [deleted user] (new)

Ken I use to have a rabbit she was so sweet. She got along great with the dogs and the cat. The cat actually slept with her until she passed. I don't know if I'm up for more animals right now. I have a turtle and a fish tank too! I end up being the only one in the family taking care of all the animals. I am sure I will get another rabbit sometime they are just so cuddly. Better then a dog & cat!

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Emilee, that is me to a tee... The one who ends up taking care of the animals. We have a huge 7 year old goldfish and a 3 year old 4ft long iguana.... Im lucky I get anyone to turn on their lights when im at work, let alone feed them and clean the tanks....

message 341: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments What do you do with an iguana?
It's not like you can take him for a walk.
He doesn't curl up next you and purr or chase after a ball.
Can you scratch him under his chin until his eyes close?
Plus, they have no fur and they are umm...ugly!
Is his name Louie by any chance?
I actually liked Louie...the Budweiser Iguana

message 342: by [deleted user] (new)

Kelli: Most iguana's aren't very friendly.

My brother had one that would bite. Needless to say I just stayed away from him.

Is your's Lori?

I just cleaned the turtle tank, its a painted Turtle really cute but Oh the tank gets stinky. I hate cleaning the tank. The kids picked out the animals too. Mom's always get the raw end of the animal picking!

My son asked me to get him a frog I told him when the turtle or the fish die. I am so mean.

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
The iguana used to be very tame. He would climb on me as i was cleaning the cage, or let me hnad feed him. He lives in a huge 6ft high by 4 ft long by 3ft deep tank that my brother built (its amazing!) and all of a sudden, about 6 months ago he flipped on me and attacked me. And hasnt stopped since!

Hes huge and gorgeous, but utterly terrifying now. I thought he hit breeding season, but that should have been out of his system by now. So now i think he is just evil, posessed and try my hardest to not have him attack me as i clean his tank (usually when he is sleeping and the tank lights are out) and when I feed him....

message 344: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Oh No!! That is too bad about the tame turned into not so tame iguana.
Sorry Lori...
I have a friend that has (or used to) have a life size cage of iguanas. We called him lizard boy.
He would actually scratch his lizards under their chin (no joke)
They were freakin' huge.
I was amazed...
It's just reptiles aren't known for being warm and cuddly....

message 345: by [deleted user] (new)

We watched a special on PBS I think it was in May there was a guy who had a five bedroom house. He slept in his front roomm but his five iguana's had their own bedrooms.

I thought I had OCD.

message 346: by Laura (new)

When i cant handle it anymore, i think i can donate him to the Bronx Zoo. My brothers girlfriend works there. She is a zoologist in one of the animal houses..... But Im dont let go of my pets. I dont think anyone else would take care of him the way I do....

message 349: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe he will change again and be nice. You never can tell. My brother's Iguana was always mean.
