Keep resting & reading. The only nice thing about being sick is not having to go to work.

message 452: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hahah!! Soooo true. And the reading time. And the GR time.

message 453: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh yes, not being at work free's up a lot of reading time & GR time! I so wish I could get paid to goof on GR all day!

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Damn, if I only I was a programmer......

message 455: by [deleted user] (new)

It's not too late to go back to school!

Random thought: What if we had a reunion for TNBBC. what would that be like????

Jessica, How did you land the job? I want to work at Borders. Im soooo jealous!! You dont get a book discount, only get to borrow them?

message 457: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Lori, well what with the crappy job market I've been having a hard time finding a career since graduating college. I decided to apply at Borders and Barnes & Noble just so I will still be making some money while I look for a "real" job. Borders called me today, I went in for a mini-interview and they hired me on the spot.

Nope, no discount but I normally trade my books when I'm done reading them anyway, so the borrowing system works well for me.

message 458: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments You are living my retirement dream Jessica.
That's what I want to do when I retire, work in a book store!
Congrats!
Would love to hear about your days working there.
It would be hard not to just want to walk around the shelves and touch all the books all day.

message 459: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Ok, I feel really stupid now. Aaron came home and I asked him to photoshop the cone on my dog's picture. He said, "I can't because you don't have photoshop on your computer." I was like, "photoshop is a program?" Duh, I thought "photoshop" was just a term people used when they incorporated images from the internet onto photos. I just might have to buy a cone (or make one) and put it on Samantha and then get a picture. Of course, I'm so lame I can't even post the picture, I need Aaron to do that for me, too. Needless to say, Aaron thinks I'm completely pathetic when it comes to computers!

message 460: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Congratulations, Jessica! And good luck getting that corporate position too, I hope it works out for you. Sounds like a dream. New books always smell better!

message 461: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Hi, I'm Samantha. Do you like the lampshade? I know I look hot. If I start seeing pink elephants in the room then I know I'm really in trouble!

message 462: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hahha!

message 463: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Yes, she actually liked having the thing on! Of course, I had to give her an $8.00 beef flavored bone after that. She's no dummy!

message 464: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hahah! But if it were me, you'd have to give me a book instead of a bone!

message 465: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Lol, Emma. Me too!

message 466: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Congratulations, Jessica. I'm soooo jealous!

message 468: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hahhaa

message 469: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Awww Ann, your puppy is adorable, with or without the cone. I really think dogs (and cats) look cute with their cones! You should see me in PetSmart looking at dog clothes. I go crazy looking at all the cute outfits. Sometimes my husband ditches me in the aisle because he's so embarrassed by my high pitched squeals! Samantha likes wearing pink bandanas but she hates shirts. She had the cutest pink "princess" shirt and she'd take it off whenever I left the house!

message 470: by Emma (last edited Sep 27, 2008 03:29PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hahah! Ahh, the dog clothes....I saw the CUTEST picture of a cat in a rabbit suit and now I want to put Clara in one! Hehe.

message 471: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually have sweat shirts for my dogs. It's so cold here in the midwest in the winter they wear them outside.

Kinda funny.

message 472: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments A cat in a rabbit suit? I LOVE it! I love all the shirts, coats and boots they have for dogs. My dog wears a coat in the winter, and she seems to like it but for some reason she won't keep a shirt on. I'd love to see her in a sweatshirt!

message 473: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the halloween costumes are a lot of fun!

message 474: by [deleted user] (new)

I mean Halloween costumes for dogs. Their are some really cute one's at Target right now.

message 475: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Hey everyone.
I was on bookreporter the other day and a new book caught my eye.
Since this thread has literally gone to the dogs (and cats) I thought I would mention it here.

Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World
Vicky Myron

message 476: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Kellie, I saw this book at Borders last week. It looks really cute and I'm sure I'll end up reading it soon.

message 477: by [deleted user] (new)

Beth tell us how it is. Kellie have you read it or just saw it?

message 478: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Wow, that book sounds great! Yeah, a cat in a rabbit suit. Clara would never be up for it, but a girl can dream. :)

message 479: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Haven't read it but I put it on my wish list.
The cat looked really cute and I thought it might be an interesting read. Since it's non-fiction!

message 480: by She'Davia (last edited Sep 29, 2008 12:01PM) (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) So today congress was able to vote on the $700 billion bailout plan. I've been scrutinously watching this happen all day and I'm highly disappointed with the results:

Yea-Nae
140- 095 - Democratic
066-133 - Republican

207-227

We needed 218 votes for this to get passed. WTF Republicans! This is f*cking rediculous. While this voting was going on Dow went down almost 500 points. So many stocks are like falling right now.

This will most likely stay open and hopefully like 11 people will change their minds when they look at CNBC and notice what the hell is going on.

Things are just plunging.

I'm "tripple angered that the republicans arent delivering"

*an hour later- this didnt stay open...Nancy Pelosi sucks!

message 481: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) Yeah but that speech she gave today, made a lot of people change their views on the bill (or atleast thats what CNBC is saying).

message 482: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to agree with Ken. It's sad that it has turned into a two party system.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the vote, stocks & sorry but I think we are heading for another depression!

Thank the Lord I have a job!

message 483: by [deleted user] (new)

Random thought: It is could outside today in the Midwest! I am hoping that winter is not coming early! :( Not a huge fan of the Midwest Winters. I need a winter home in Arizona! Or Carribean!

message 484: by [deleted user] (new)

Even the electoral vote I think is a bit outdated.

Jersey that's a thought. But how cold is the winter? Don't mind the snow. When I lived in the Rocky Mountains got lots of snow but not too cold, wore my Teva's everywhere didn't own a coat. Midwest you have to wear layers of clothes! Especially when the wind hits Lake Michigan! Freezing cold then!!!!!!!!!!

message 485: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oh don't even get me STARTED on the electoral college. I can't believe we still have that, can someone PLEASE tell me why?? PLEASE?

message 486: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments My first day at Borders was today. I'm a cashier and overall, the day went fairly well. I also found out that in addition to the book loaning system, I also get 33% off of my book purchases.

message 487: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Oh Jessica...Thank you for the daily dose of my life you are living.
Don't stop... Please, don't stop.

33%?
Wow. I bet you buy some books there....
I'd probably spend my pay check there.

message 488: by Emilly R (new)

Emilly R (rosario0829e) | 198 comments These bill is a Republican bill put for by the Bush administration, the minority leaderBoehner promised 70 to 80 votes,Nancy Pelosi promised 140,she delivered 141,the Republican only delivered 65 vote.It seems to me that Pelosi speach was only an excused not to vote.

message 489: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments You need to move to the south. We have warm weather through December. I remember my sister had her birthday on the 20 one year and it was in the 70's. It was 86 today. Beautiful...

message 490: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments You know Ken, I think if you guys all barged into my Borders and demanded my discount, they might have to fire me, haha! ;)

message 491: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Jessica, I want to work there. Put in a good word for me eh?
33% off on any book I buy.... that would be sweet!!! Nothing would be full price anymore... ahhhh... Heaven!

message 492: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Hi jessica, isn't it great... I worked once at WHSmith in England and got 12.5% discount. They also had sometimes a day that everything people bought was 10% off. So of course I used that day to buy books and get a22% discount! Had to leave an hour earlier that day to decide on which books I would buy after I ahd been doing that already for more than a week....

And the daily struggle not to buy a book.... :-)

enjoy

message 493: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Emilee, I grew up in Chicago and lived in a suburb before moving to VA and then NC. Woo, woo, gotta love kissing those 60 degree below with the wind chill days goodbye. I don't even own a pair of boots anymore.

message 494: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Way to go Ken. Carpe Discount - seize the 33%.

message 495: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Oh, Ann, that was harsh making these folks jealous of the balmy breezes and sunshine we had here in the south yesterday.

message 496: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Ok, stop talking about your warm temps! It's 51 right now in the Chicago area! I'm wearing a sweatshirt and seriously considering turning the heat on! I had it on in the car this morning. I'm so not ready for the cold weather.

message 497: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I also live in the Chicago area and it is 65 degrees in my house. I am sitting here with a robe on and I am also wondering if it is too late to turn the heat on! Although it is October 1st, so the cold weather is on its way!! I despise cold weather.

message 498: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I know. I'm so mean. lol I love living in the south. I'm picking up my friends little girl and meeting some friends at the park. Its another beautiful day in my neck of the woods....

message 499: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Beth, Linda...all the cold people......it's cooooold!!!!! I am having mountains around me, a couple of weeks ago the temperature dropped in half during the night and it was such a shock! I didn't even get the time to adjust....
In Italy there seems to be a law for every region I think when they can start to use the heater in the house. They only change it when the weather gets extremely cold before. Of course here in this little village int he mountains nobody willl notice if you do, but people are more used to this than I am. I am from Belgium!!!!!
My feet are freezing and every half an hour I think i am standing in front of the fire place. I knew I liked a fire palce in the hosue, but now I adoooore them!!!!

Good luck to all the coldies.

message 500: by [deleted user] (new)
