I like Barry Eisler and Brad Thor.

You said the magic word with SciFi. I will have to look up this series thanks for the heads up.

One of my all time favorites too, Dan.
One of my all time favorites too, Dan.

My father just recently gave me Black Light,47th Samuri, and Sniper by Stephen Hunter and I agree Swagger is really down to earth and more believable the Reacher.
I have been really enjoying the books

Great villain for Bob lee to take down."
I am looking forward to it. thanks

Oh, yes, I like Jonathan Quinn, that's a good series.

Thanks for that lead. I've just reserved my copy of the first book from the library. The scifi reference caught my eye as well.

Susan your right! Thanks for the correction. ;-)

I'm having to branch out now. Just read Jeffrey Deaver for the first time, and have a C.J. Box in the wings. I'm not sure exactly how to characterize why I like some authors, love some, and can't read others (like Brad Thor).
Of course, I started reading Flynn a few years ago and thought he was unreadable. Then I got hooked on Connelly, and was lured in the direction of murder mysteries/thrillers/spies/?? not sure what the genre really is, even.
Oh, and someone left a Ridley Pearson (Lou Boldt) in my gym and I picked it up...really fun, although his early books are much less strong.
I'm not sure why I didn't like Virgil Flowers. Flynn is political, but he tries not to demonize the other party; Sanderson does not try. That annoys me, but then, I'm sensitive to that kind of thing. Most people don't care.
I spend way too much time reading.
So fun, but it's so addictive.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Just a newbie to this group, but just to stir the pot, here's my sorted list:
(1) Bob Swagger
(2) Jack Reacher (ignoring TomCr)
(3) Joe Pike
(4) Mitch Rapp
......

I really like the John Sanford books that feature the Virgil Flowers character and I have recently read all of the Brad Smith books. His Virgil Cain character is good but I have liked all of the books. Of course, my favorite is still Reacher.

I'm hoping that this most recent novel which has him going to Virginia will reveal a 'personal' fact that will change his life forever. I speculate...a child he never knew he had? We will see.
As for a Mitch Rapp, it sounds like fun but a couple of things--I'd rather read a comic book than this guy's exploits in prose. Moreover, the whole notion buys into middle America's fear of terrorism which..yeah, is kinda justified, but the author's close association with such opportunistic media wads as Glenn Beck and others who promulgate lies to abet fear and headlines I have little truck with. The author and character are guilty by association in my eyes. I read the first several pages of the first novel and it was capable, but heavy handed.

At Amazon, it's $6.99

Cole is classy and a very good detective and his sidekick, Pike, is steeped in Reacher-ish mystery and combative capability.
Plus, Crais is an outrageously talented writer with a very unique style.
Well worth investing in a book...may I suggest LA Requiem as a great starting point.

I am looking for a Jack Reacher (like) character who has a brother in a military prison and a father who is retired military currently in a hospital. If anyone knows this character, please give me the author's name.

I believe that is John Puller series by David Baldacci. Pretty good, I like the Puller/Reacher pun if you can call it that. Hope this helps.

Hi Sweetie:
Thanks so much. John Puller is the one I am looking for. BTW I like the pun.

Yes, Will Robie is very good. I just finished those, very enjoyable.

I think David. Baldacci's Will Robie and Tom Wood's Victor the Assassin might match Pike and Swagger but we'll have to see. As of now they're just 2-3 books old.
I will appreciate if readers here can try my thriller. It has been compared to a Reacher, Baldacci's books, Vince Flynn's thrillers et al. I would say mine is more Pike than Reacher but should appeal to fans such a character driven genre.
The Warrior, http://amzn.to/14TGB5m

An old series I liked was Brian Haig's featuring Sean Drummond. Unfortunately there aren't many of them.

Ty, I'll have to try your book out. Amazon reviewers don't lie! Looks like you are developing a following.
You have to work on your avatar, though, lol. Looks like an author of Vampire novels. Maybe, drop the green and add ominous shades. That should do the trick!

Downloading now, will read when I get caught up. Sounds great!

I really enjoyed John Sandford's series of books.
