Gwennie (blessedwannab) Not bad. Sure, I'll add it.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Dawn wrote: "I also like romances which have a horse theme...does this qualify as a genre?"

hmmm, this wouldnt' be simiar to Western? I don't think I've read a horse romance that wasn't Western.

(I love horses, so what type of book do you mean?)

message 53: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments There's Riders, Polo, Jump - all by Jilly Cooper. Nora Roberts has written a few, I can find the titles if anyones interested. The Horse Whisper is a drama with some romance. There's also a series by Jenny Pitman that are drama with some romance thrown in. That's off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. Horse training, racing, breeding are the background theme, so not really a western....does that make sense?

message 54: by Alycia (new)

Alycia I know Joan Johnston did a few romance books with cutting horses. I'm trying to think of racing books with romance...

message 55: by Alycia (last edited May 05, 2011 02:56PM) (new)

Alycia The Stud Club series by Tessa Dare has a slight premise around horses. But this is HR. That's the only genre I can think of with nonwestern horses.

message 56: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I read Horse Whisperer. I think those would fit under the contemporary theme, but they do sound really intersting. I have read Nora Roberts about horse ranches, like Montana Sky. They do sound pretty good.

message 57: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments The Nora Roberts I was thinking of are called Irish Hearts and Irish Rebel. I also have Horse Heaven by Jane Smiley (about horse racing) and Kiss and Tell by Fiona Walker (about eventing) that I haven't read yet. Not sure how much romance is in the former and the latter looks very similar to Jilly Cooper. I questioned whether these types of books are a genre as I didn't know if there are enough of them to warrant their own genre, but I always look out for horsey books and there has to be some romance in mix for me to really enjoy a book. Maybe it would be better to have horse romance, including westerns, as a genre to make it broader?

message 58: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments I will check out the Stud Club....not heard of those before.

message 59: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Historical Romance
PNR
Sports Romance
Erotica
Romantic Suspense
Contemporary Romance
YA Romance
Urban Fantasy
Sci-Fi Romance
Horse Romance

Okay, fair enough. How's that?

message 60: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Wendy F wrote: "Horse Romance "

LOL! Made me think of a romance among horses!

I think most people would think this is in the cowboy/western category.

message 61: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I chuckled too, but I wasn't sure how to classify it. How about this...

Historical Romance
PNR
Sports Romance
Erotica
Romantic Suspense
Contemporary Romance
YA Romance
Urban Fantasy
Sci-Fi Romance
Cowboy/Western/Rancher Romance

message 62: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments I had the same problem which is why I originally just suggested cowboy/western.....so long as we know what we mean lol.

It looks a good list to me.

message 63: by Leea (new)

Leea LMAO to 'Horse Romance' I guess horses are looking for love to :)

D.G. Leea *Fire and Gasoline* wrote: "LMAO to 'Horse Romance' I guess horses are looking for love to :)"

LMAO, Leea! I read this while I was drinking juice and I almost shared some of it with my monitor. :)

message 65: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh sorry :) For some reason I now need to read a book with romance and houses in it... Might need to be our July read. It's so funny all the different genre that I have yet to read. Being in this group has helped me open my book horizons and try books I would not have chosen on my own - Thanks ladies!!

message 66: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Um, Leea... I think all romance books have houses in them. At least all the ones I've read do. Hee hee, ;)

message 67: by Leea (last edited May 07, 2011 07:44AM) (new)

Leea Oh yeah... I read a lot of historical romance. Funny I don't pay attention to the horses ;);)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm dying with laughter right now. I don't think Leea caught her mistake, hahaha.

message 69: by Leea (new)

message 73: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Alright, so Historical Fiction won by a landslide!

Let's get our book nominations started, people!

Please nominate only books that fall into the Historical Fiction genre.

Please do not nominate a book that falls in the middle of a series. (Series starts only, please.)

I look forward to your nominations.

Sorry I posted my suggestions in the wrong place. I meant to say that also would have suggested this one. Whoops!

D.G. HR and houses! I was like...WTH? LOL!

OK, here are my nominations, all books I've heard good things about:

The Heir by Grace Burrowes (you can now buy the Kindle version for $0.89)

Ravishing in Red (The Rarest Blooms, #1) by Madeline Hunter The Heir (Duke's Obsession #1) by Grace Burrowes

message 83: by Jasja (new)

Jasja | 42 comments Just wondering, is there a maximum amount of books that 1 person can nominate?

message 84: by Gwennie (last edited May 09, 2011 07:07AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'd like to stick to 1 or 2 per person (one preferably). If I were to take all the nominations listed so far I'd already have 23 books on the poll and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

So for everyone who listed multiple books, please pick one or two specifically.

In my efforts to allow more people to nominate I haven't written down any nominations for those of you who listed multiple books. Right now, I have a list of 5.

message 85: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Sure, Wendy!

message 86: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thanks D.G. I hate having so many rules, but I also don't want to get the Group Read Poll to get overwhelming for people.

There are already some great idea's listed.

message 87: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson

message 88: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh and Dawn, right above you're comment box you'll see the 'add book/author' link. If you click that you can type in the book you're looking for. At the bottom of the pop-up search box you'll see where you can click for just the link or the book cover. That's the easiest way to put in the book thumbnail.

Thanks for your Nom!

message 89: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (luv2readluv2danz2) | 13 comments Thanks Wendy - so easy now I know....been trying to figure it out for a while lol.

No worries, Wendy. It wouldn't be nice to have all recommendations from one person or have some many of them that people are overwhelmed so I totally understand. :)

message 91: by Vikisha (new)

Vikisha (lafemmetopaz) | 11 comments I love historical erotic romances. Authors like Monica Burns, Julia
Templeton, and Lisa valez are fab. Robin Schone and Kate Peace are at the top of the game . Actually, there are a select group of authors who write this genre.

message 92: by Christine (new)

Christine Keleny (christinekeleny) | 3 comments Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene

Christine Keleny (christinekeleny) | 3 comments How about Doc by Mary Russell?

message 96: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Wrote it down, thanks!

message 97: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm not sure it's considered a Romance, but dang Christine, that book looks GOOD!!!

It's probably my obsession with Doc Holliday, but I am downloading that to my Kindle as I type this.

message 98: by Vikisha (new)

Vikisha (lafemmetopaz) | 11 comments I nominate, Never Seduce a Scoundrel (School for Heiresses, Book 1) by Sabrina Jeffries

message 99: by Larisa (new)

Larisa | 17 comments I think One Night Is Never Enough (Secrets, #2) by Anne Mallory looks interesting.

message 100: by Gwennie (last edited May 11, 2011 07:06AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It seems that one is #2 in a series. We try to not have these nominated for those who haven't read the first books. It does look pretty good though, so thank you for mentioning it.

I can add the first one if you'd like me to?
