I LOVE these books. Whenever I need a pick me up, I just grab one, they are always good.

I'm finally getting around to reading The Hunger Games and I'm also still reading American Gods. I am trying my best to not give up on the latter, as I'm already more than halfway through the book, but right now I feel like it's still not going anywhere.
Just finished Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger! I loved it! Now on to something different... maybe The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe!

LOL It's just written so well you can picture every little thing, the only reason i havent read them sooner was i was waiting til i got the last two books i needed to complete it but i figured i might as well just go ahead and start reading them, that'd knock out a good chunk of books in my TBR pile when i finished them and im flying through them so far! I'm going to start book 2 on my lunch break today and I can't wait!
Just finished Four Freedoms: A Novel and enjoyed it. Initially, it was a bit technical but then I got very drawn into the characters and how they dealt with the domino effect of war. I've just started Little Boys Come from the Stars.
I started
Velva Jean Learns to Drive: A Novel
I got it from Amazon's bargain section on an impulse a while ago. I like how it's starting.

Good of r you Fiona! I love when books grab you right from the start. The Crossing Places doesn't do that. It is not a bad book per say, it's moving along but I just wish that I "couldn't put it down". But I guess we all feel like that with every book we tackle.
I started Home Safe by Elizabeth Berg yesterday and am already more than half way through it. I have always liked Berg's novels and this one is just such an easy read. I know it hasn't gotten rave reviews, but I am really enjoying the pace.
This is my first time posting! Sorry for the excitement :)I'm reading The Likeness by Tana French. I'm 20% in (says Kindle). I just finished In the Woods, and usually I enjoy reading "series" back-to-back, but I'm struggling to find the sequel-ness in this book. I like the book, and French's writing, but for some reason I'm still so bothered by the ending of the first book, that I'm tentative to get too involved in this one. It's like a rebound relationship!
I'm now reading Anna Karenina as a part of my goal to read a good chunk of Russian lit this winter. It is so far much better than War and Peace.
I've somehow started a lot of books lately!I'm still on Ulysses. Although it's hard reading, I'm surprised that it's not bad either. It's a book that needs more than one reading, though. Joyce put a lot into the pages and the reader can only absorb a bit at a time.
Beside a Burning Sea is a nice alternative to Ulysses and I'm reading that in between. It's nice to read a book that I can actually understand completely. LOL!
On audio, I'm listening to The Blood of Flowers: A Novel, which I'm really enjoying.
I've put Blindness and Wuthering Heights to the side for now. There's only so many stories I can follow at one time. I'm itching to get back to Wuthering Heights but will finish Ulysses first. I'm starting to enjoy the story of Blindness but still struggle with the writing style. I will get back to it, though, after finishing Beside The Burning Sea.
I'm gonna put aside The Eleventh Man because I just got Pirate Latitudes from the library. I haven't started it yet, but I will today.

For what it's worth, I gave In the Woods 4 stars and The Likeness: A Novel 5 stars.
I really loved The Likeness. It reminded me a bit of The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I hope you enjoy it!
I finished Fallen by David Maine and really liked it. Now onto Black Swan Green by David Mitchell and of course, going on with Ulysses.

Cait, that is good to know! I read a lot of reviews from readers of In the Woods being dissappointed in the resolution. I'm just getting into Cassie's first week in Whitehorn House. I'm suspicious of a few roommates at this point ... can't wait to see what happens!

Hahaha! I love that, "says Kindle". Mine seems to be messing with me lately, and my little dots are very moody.

carol (akittykat) wrote: "Petra if you can read the last episode of Ulysses you will not have any trouble with Blindness."LOL! Let's see if that last episode will stump me (even more than the others are). LOL!
.....after that I'll return to Blindness with a lighter heart and a sturdier sword (of understanding)........... LOL!
I just finished Wings by Aprilynne Pike. I really enjoyed it. Now i'm reading Peeps by Scott Westerfeld. I've got about 100 pages left.

:D
Started The Elegance of the Hedgehog and still reading (listening to) Undaunted Courage. I grew up learning about Lewis and Clark every year in Montana History and didn't really remember much - I'm enjoying it as an adult!
I just finished Jane Eyre, loved it, and started The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I love that the characters aren't named and that whatever apocolyptic event happened isn't explained. Gives it a much more grittier survival feel.Next up is The Hunger Games. My daughter and I have both been wanting to read this and it being up for discussion this month pushed me along. :)
I finished The Book of Lost Things this morning and loved it! Now I'm off to browse through the discussions...:) I'll be starting Angels & Demons and Under the Dome, and I'm so excited! I'll be in for a good reading day!
I finished The Little Stranger, which was very good. I also read The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain. I absolutely loved this story (it went on my favorites list). I can't believe I haven't read any Twain before now.
This morning I am starting The Wasp Factory: A Novel. And continuing on with Ulysses (almost at the 300 page mark).
I started reading Poppy Shakespeare the other day, and I'm just less than halfway through. I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would.
Just started The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse. It's one of those gothic set-in-old-English-manor type books.

Reading The Great Gatsby for the first time. I'm definitely liking it so far, but I still think it's overrated - I don't know that I'd call it "The Great American Novel."
I finished Peeps by Scott Westerfeld yesterday and now I am reading The Sleeping Doll by Jeffery Deaver.
Detective Inspector Huss is finished and I'm diving into the second novel in this series The Torso. That will cover Sweden and Danemark for ATWi80 challenge.
Finished Hacker last night by Malorie Blackman which was only ok for me. It could have been told a lot better.
Started and Finished Right Where It Hurts by David Hill today which I liked. Quick read, only about 130 pages. Had a good story and was easy to read. It was based around a girl who harms herself.
Now I think I might go back to trying to read/finish Wuthering Heights.

It was difficult for me to get into it too, but I ended up enjoying it the second time around. It's unique.
I finished The Chronicles Of Narnia the other day, loved it; yesterday, I started House Of Day, House Of Night by Olga Tokarczuk.
Woo hoo... I finished Chronic City. Not the Lethem I am used to... overall an ok book. Just between the holidays, and the plot itself, seemed to take longer than it should have.
I will be starting "The Gates" later today.

The Gates by John Connolly? I just finished The Book of Lost Things and loved it, so I would love to hear what you think of The Gates!
Just finished Home Safe by Elizabeth Berg. I gave it a 4. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great fare if you are looking for a lighter read, but with some meat on its bones.
I finished
last night. I'll be starting
today. Would've started it last night but I kept falling asleep so I figured I might as well wait so I remembered what I was reading in the morning!
Finished Eiffel's Tower: And the World's Fair Where Buffalo Bill Beguiled Paris, the Artists Quarreled, and Thomas Edison Became a Count and Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible & Why when I was at my father's - both very good.
Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel. First book I'm reading on my new Kindle. I'm loving it so far (both book and device).
