Make sure someone posts how you did. Good luck!

message 302: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry to say that I won't be there tonight after all--not feeling well today--but I am cheering you guys on in spirit!

message 303: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I'll be there early to grab a table. See you all there!

message 304: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments It must be getting close to game time there...Good Luck!!! Lots of positive thoughts from across the pond. Can't wait to hear all about it!!

Well, we didn't win, but we didn't embarrass ourselves, either. The questions were HARD, but the bonus questions were fun. Thanks, Callie and Vanessa (and Dan from Wales)!

message 307: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I am very proud of how our team did, considering how out of place I felt after the first question- Take the number of lines in a sonnet, add the number of lines in a Villanelle, divide the total by the number of syllables in a dactyl. We missed that one, but had a great comeback and were even tied for 4th place at one point. Plus, it was just a great time in general, and so fun to see everyone.

message 308: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Good grief - sounds more like a math quiz than Literary trivia!! I have no doubt that you guys were brilliant. I wish I could have been there to see you in action.

message 309: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Being the competitive person I am, I feel like we need to put this loss in perspective.

1. There were at least 25-30 teams.
2. We were in Cambridge - the hub of intelligentsia
3. A group called "50 Shades of Grey Goose" won the title contest... yep, we were totally robbed.
4. We were tied for THIRD at one point(not fourth! more credit please!)
5. It was our first go at it!

Hence, next time we'll blow them out of the water!

Okay pep talk over. Go team!!

message 312: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Ladies (and willing Gents) - When can we get together again? I want to hear details on what everyone is reading and your summer adventures!

message 313: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Me too! I would love to get together before I head to the UK (departure date still not final but probably another 2 weeks or so). What about next Tuesday or Wednesday after the long weekend?

message 314: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I can do Tuesday but not Wednesday- I have book club.

(Which reminds me I have to read Faith by next Wednesday...)

message 315: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments I can also do Tuesday but not Wednesday! Yay!

message 316: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments I'm in for Tuesday! I know we've met in Harvard Square in the past - does that still work for you guys?

message 317: by Marly (new)

Marly | 152 comments I'm going to try to make it. Keep me posted.

message 318: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments Would love to meet, but not sure if I'll be in town. Will let you know once my schedule firms up.

I'll be curious on your take of that book, Callie. It's one I read at the beginning of the year.

Tuesday's going to be tough for me, since it's the first day of school and I am on pickup duty. I'll keep an eye on the details and maybe I can sneak up (doubtful, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

message 321: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry to say an after-work thing is going to keep me away this time. I hope you'll post all the juicy recommendations here!

message 322: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments So what do we want to do? Do we want to push this out a little when more people are free? Would next Weds (13th) or Thursday (14th) be better?

message 323: by [deleted user] (new)

Do what works best for you regulars, but I could do 5p on Wed 9/13.

message 324: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments i can only do tuesday or thursday, not wednesday.

message 325: by [deleted user] (new)

Go for Tues/Thurs, then since I'll bet 5p is too early for most of you anyway. I'll check back for book recs though, as if I need anymore ;-)

message 326: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I can do either tues or thurs, either this week or next.

message 327: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments This week is out for me, and next week does not much look better at this point. I'll look forward to hearing the juicy book updates.

message 328: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I would recommend that we either postpone until Thursday this week, or one of the days next week. Looks like Boston is in for a whole lot of bad weather tomorrow. What do you guys think?

message 329: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments I heard it was going to be rainy tomorrow as well. I can't do this Thursday but I can do next Thursday.

message 330: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments I can do this upcoming Thursday or next Thursday. I could also do next Monday or Tuesday! Whatever works best for everyone! I need more recommendations! :)

message 331: by Ann (new)

Ann (akingman) | 2097 comments Mod
I'm out all next week, and the rest of this, but you guys should totally have fun and definitely meet up!

message 332: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments ok - let's try again for Thursday the 14th? I think Callie and Vanessa are still good with that date and all others are welcome to join us!

message 333: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Oops! Thursday is the 13th...

message 334: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Okay! It's going on the calendar! :)

message 335: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I'm in!

Here's another event for your calendar, and an invitation to join the newly-revitalized Boston Chapter of the Women's National Book Association. This is an organization of people of either gender who are interested in books and publishing. You do not have to have a professional connection to the industry. So that means you should all join!

Our first event of 2012 is a Yankee Swap (hmm, wonder where they got that idea :) on 9/28 from 6-8pm in the Grub Street offices. It's open to all -- just bring a wrapped book, new or gently-used. Learn more about WNBA at the event, or online at the website. http://www.wnbaboston.org/events.php

Pam | 81 comments Don't forget Book Book Festival. http://www.bostonbookfest.org/

Looks like they have an interesting ticketed ($15) session on Friday night called Page to Screen
http://www.bostonbookfest.org/bookfes...

Love to meet up with you Boston-based BOTNS listeners some time.

message 338: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments It looks like I'll be around on Thursday 9/13 - the swells outside the harbor are not fun to sail in. So are we meeting at the same bat location and bat time? AKA 7pm @ Crema? Or someplace else? So looking forward to a good book romp.

message 339: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments I'm not in town, but in case you are, Madeline Miller (Song of Achilles) is at Porter Sq Books tonight (9/10) @ 7pm.

message 340: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments I'm glad you're around for Thursday Elizabeth! I'm fine with 7pm outside Crema unless anyone else has another preference?

message 341: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Works for me!

message 342: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Yay! I'm excited! See you guys there! :)

message 343: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments See you guys @ 7! I'm in purple, reading Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy #1) by Jacqueline Carey .

message 344: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments See you soon!

message 345: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Yay! See you guys at Crema @7! Excited!

message 346: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Okay... I'm just gonna say it. I love you guys. You all "get" me.

Yet another amazing chat chalked full of laughs and great recs (plus a few ANTI-recs... always helpful for taking books OFF my TBR list).

message 347: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Another great night!!
I'm excited to head to the UK but I'm going to miss meeting up with you guys and chatting about books until Crema kicks us out. I will definitely keep you updated on the (better) UK book covers :-)
Hopefully we can plan more meet ups when I come home for visits.

message 348: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Last night was a great time! The late night was totally worth it. I especially loved the heated conversations about some of the books- and the fact that everyone is so good-natured about disagreeing. BotNSers are the best.

message 349: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments I totally agree! Cannot wait for the next one.
Bon Voyage Jennifer. Look forward to alternate covers updates.

message 350: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Hello my lovely ladies!

Anyone going to the Boston Book Festival on Saturday (a bit of a silly question, I realize)? We should all meet up and go to some of the events... maybe grab lunch somewhere afterwards? They have a pretty incredible line-up. Richard Ford, Lemony Snicket (in the flesh!) and I definitely have to be at the WBUR tent at 1:30pm to meet Tom Ashbrook - squee!!

Here's the schedule:
