Lauren :) The host wins no competition!! it was so much less obvious than twilight and totally origional. Not that i didnt enjoy twilight, i did but for me the host was much more complex and kept you guessing the whole way through!!

BubblesTheMonkey I wish, for Twilight, that they didn't advertise that it was about vampires. But I guess that could be quite impossible. I think it would have made the book better if they didn't advertise, like, everything that's going to happen.

message 103: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy Though Twilight was first, and WAY longer, The Host is better. I think its more of an adult book that YA, but ages isnt a factor and Host is just a different book altogether. DEFINITELY "THE HOST!"

message 104: by Allie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Allie The Host. So much more character, c'mon!

Caroline C. i know this is off topic but its bugging the heck out of me, can vampires get sick?

message 106: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily The Host. even though the first 100 pages dragged, they were definitely important to the plot of the story, and they turned out so enthralling, i couldn.t put it down!

message 107: by Nadira (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nadira Emily wrote: "Host. Hands down."
definitely! host is thousand times better than twilight series

message 108: by Summer (new) - rated it 4 stars

Summer The Host is better, it is much more in depth and the characters are more developed and less flat, they seem to be more alive and less stereotypical (Bella and Edward are too much inspired by old classics sometimes and fail to surprise one).

message 109: by Olyvia (new) - rated it 3 stars

Olyvia I think twilight better than The Host :)
Coz it quite different idea :)

❀£lörê§ ❀ Obviously Host :)

message 111: by Radhe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Radhe definitely the host...... much much better

message 112: by Nina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nina The Host for sure!!!

message 113: by Kate (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kate I liked the idea of the Host better.
And I thought the writing was more refined.

And I actually liked the characters.

AlyssaH i like both of them i wouldnt be able to decide.

message 115: by Selin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Selin The host...

message 116: by Gabby (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gabby I enjoyed The Host far more, because I found that the characters were much more likeable, and there was a more refined and error free plot. I also thought that it seemed, well, almost more believable than Twilight, as strange as that may sound.

Teleatha Maddison wrote: "I'm a HUGE fan of twilight, so when I saw stephenie had released another book I was so excited I ran out to the store and bought it straight away. I got home ASAP and read it, but I must say, The H..."

I agree with you completely, the host wasw so much better all around.

message 118: by Torie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Torie Twilight is a wayyyy more entertaining read. I read 'The Host' and thought its concept was interesting, but Meyer didn't seem to go anywhere with it. Hundreds of pages of blah.
Loved Twilight though. That was fun.

message 119: by Madeline (last edited Jun 10, 2011 09:39PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Madeline they both suck... but if i had to pick one... host

message 120: by Hunny (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hunny For me.. its The Host

message 121: by Karen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Karen The Host - even though I am claustrophobic and the thought of being in caves for most of it almost made me not finish reading - glad I did, tho!

message 122: by Carol (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carol Keogh (Goodfellow) Definitely The Host. Much more grown up reading.

Lindsey There's going to be a sequel to the Host? Ugh...does that woman not know when to stop!

message 124: by Mare (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mare Hernandez Lindsey wrote: "There's going to be a sequel to the Host? Ugh...does that woman not know when to stop!"

supposedly there will be two more 'The Soul' and 'The Seeker' but im still waiting for them!!!

message 125: by Torie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Torie There's already a book out there called 'The Seeker,' isn't there!!?!?!!?

Jessica Gomez I did like the Twilight series, until they butchered it in the theater and having read it bacame a cliche. But after I read The Host, I would have to say no doubt about it The Host kicked Twilights ass. I soooo cant wait until the next two books come out. Hopefully the year will fly by.

Mare Hernandez Torie wrote: "There's already a book out there called 'The Seeker,' isn't there!!?!?!!?"

I dont know & if there is one, it wasnt written by Stephenie. it's not part of this trilogy

message 128: by Torie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Torie Yeah, I know it's not part of this trilogy. It's just not very creative/original to name your new book something that has already been used for some other novel out there. :p

Tiffanny I like the Host a lot better. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Twilight and read the series several times. The movies really ruined it for me. I think the movies turned out very very poorly compared to the books. However, between the two books, I definately pick The Host!

The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer

message 130: by Torie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Torie Sure 'The Host' was "a more grown-up read," and more deep and more difficult to read than the Twilight saga. BUT, I still don't see why just about everyone in this forum is choosing it over Twilight. I honestly thought 'The Host' didn't even COMPARE to the Twilight series. I found it boring.

message 131: by Kyra (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kyra Torie wrote: "Sure 'The Host' was "a more grown-up read," and more deep and more difficult to read than the Twilight saga. BUT, I still don't see why just about everyone in this forum is choosing it over Twiligh..."

Then you like sappy love stories compared to sci-fi, nothing wrong with that.

message 132: by Torie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Torie I don't like the Sci-fi genre anyway. Movies, books, whatever. It's not my thing. *Shrug*

message 133: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn AlyssaH wrote: "i like both of them i wouldnt be able to decide."

Me too, Alyssah. I loved them BOTH very much! Can't pick one over the other. Both stories are so different from each other. Vampire vs Parasite? Thought Stephenie's writing was incredible in both.

message 134: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann Harrison Wow, I thought it was just me who thought The Host was the better written book! I'm a huge Twilight fan but The Host is a much more "grown up" novel. I loved it from start to finish.

message 135: by Kerri (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kerri The Host is definitely better written, but Meyer still plays it safe.

message 136: by Kerri (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kerri Karen wrote: "I liked both but I can say that I would read The Host again. Twilight was good but once was enough for me. You can really see an improvement in Stephenie Meyer's writing skills in The Host and it..."

Ditto. Comparing the Host to Twilight is like comparing apples to oranges (I prefer oranges and therefore it is a superior fruit, like the Host, but if you like apples better, than the Host would be like apples)

Kimberly I really liked the Host. It was totally different from all the other stuff I had read. Twilight was ok, but just so bland. You could predict what was going to happen through the whole series! So, The Host most definitely!

message 138: by Dana (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dana I liked The Host, but I was disappointed w/ Stephanie Meyer. Did no one else notice that she has put yet another 17 year old girl into a love triangle? New setting, same story.

Kimberly I totally agree with you Dana! That fact does bother me being a mom and loving the paranormal romance scene. I have a very hard time getting into the romancing of a teen..!

Kadie D♥ I read them both and I actually prefer Twilight more, because the ending of the Host didn't satisfy me completely. Even though Twilight is way more unreal and far way too perfect it did gave me a happy feeling after reading the book and the series.
Maybe if there was a sequel to the Host it would have made me liking it more....

Dawn Doris wrote: "I read them both and I actually prefer Twilight more, because the ending of the Host didn't satisfy me completely. Even though Twilight is way more unreal and far way too perfect it did gave me a h..."

Hi Doris,
Unless her plans have changed, Stephenie Meyer had intended on doing two more books on the HOST. Keep an eye and ear on GOODREADS for more info on this.

~Tormiester~ The Host! I thought it was better just because the movie's not out yet.

message 143: by Court (new) - rated it 4 stars

Court I liked Twilight. Until all of them came out. The fourth one totally warped my opinion of the series. It was a cop out and I lost my faith in Stephanie Meyer as an author. Then I read Host. It was written so much better and I was actually satisfied with the end. No I didn't particularly like the body Wanda ended up in but it was an ending and it wasn't meant to please everyone, unlike the Twilight series. I know I didn't really compare the individual books but as I said, I really can't. Haha.

message 144: by Trini (new) - rated it 5 stars

Trini okay... this i really a hard question!
The Twilight series was a VAMPIRE novel triangle love story. its lso well rounded and different by other vampire stories. like how the Cullen's drink animal blood instead of killing humans for blood, they dont sleep at all or burn in sunlight. She just have a different way of view then other authors.. which makes her books amazing!!!!

the same goes for The Host to me... this book was so different and unheard of.. and its not really like a love triangle like its usually is... Ian,Wanda,Jared,MEl...Their all fighting for something but also the same thing all together.

So i cant really pick which is better because there not the same... i love them both so it would be a tie to me..

message 145: by Kara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kara The Host makes Twilight look like a boring book! THE HOST!

message 146: by Susan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Susan Host is a great book. Great original concept. Much more grown up. Loved Twilight Saga but Host is a better crafted book.

harshini The Host! :)

Stephanie Although I loved this book, I'm going to have to say that Twilight was better. I got sucked into Twilight unlike any other book that I have read. I think that Twilight was definitely geared towards a younger audience and The Host was geared more towards adults. My opinion of course... As an adult I can appreciate the writing more in The Host, but as far as the actually story is concerned it's Twilight all the way for me.

message 149: by Marina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marina Fontaine It's not a fair comparison. Twilight is clearly YA and written as such. The Host is adult through and through. Both are original takes on tired concepts- Twilight re-invents vampire lore, throwing out most of the old vampire premises, while The Host is the only sci-fi story I can think of that begins AFTER the aliens have taken over and written 100% from an alien's POV. Both also share the theme of the transcending power of love, which is why both are wonderful in different ways. Being an adult, I have to give my vote to The Host, but only barely.
