I'm planning to read after two weeks. It's going to be my third attempt. Maybe I can finally finish it if I read with someone. Anyone interested? :)

KRIZIA: There may be somebody who has also limited reading time like you. Tintin and I (for "Hardboiled") read 2 chapters a day. 1 chapter is good for 1 sitting so it does not take a long time really.

ANGUS: I just read that last month. Do you plan to read "Capricorn" too? If yes, I can wait for you. BTW, although "Cancer" was written before "Capricorn", the story in "Capricorn" happens before that of "Cancer's". So, let me know if you want to read "Capricorn" first and you can be my reading buddy.

I will try my best to keep up with you but I don't have a lot of time to read! K.D. is such a speedy reader.

MONIQUE: Yes, we agreed. See my "review" of the book. I suggested 1 chapter. She checked. She saw that there are 40 chapters and our set limit (as a Filipino group) is 1 month. Otherwise, it will drag and some people (in the reading group) might lose interest.

Waaah! Hindi ko kayang tupiin or guhitan ang books ko kahit second-hand lang sila. So ang ginawa ko, nagset up ako ng Tumblr account at doon ko na nilalagay yung mga magagandang passages.

Okay, well this edition is 372 pages, and if we go by that, this will probably take me 3 weeks to 1 month to read. Or we can try to go 2 chapters a day?

@MONIQUE: If you're up for reading The Handmaid's Tale , I'm available to read it by Mar. 26. (I compared our books and this was one of unread books we had in common.

The others were Number the Stars, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, The Thirteenth Tale, and Bet Me). Although of those the only one I currently have a copy of is Number the Stars and The Handmaid's Tale.

March 26 is OK with me, although if you'd want to take a break after your Murakami read with K.D., it's also fine with me. Just let me know.

@K.D. and Monique: So Handmaid's Tale is OK? I only said March 26 because that's the soonest I can get my copy which is in my bookshelf in another province. Anyway I don't mind reading 2 books at the same time. Let's set a date which is most convenient for all. K.D., by March 26 we still have a quarter of Hard-boiled Wonderland left.

REGINE: I got mixed up with my dates. Sorry. But, it is still manageable. I checked my copy of Laclos and there are 4 parts. Can we have 1 part per week? But I need to read few days in advance because my copy has intro to this edition, intro for the first edition and prologue.

TINTIN: I'm still in for Atwood on March 26, this will be 6 days from now.

I will schedule my day as follows:
MORNING - The Holy Bible
Murakami (1st chapter while in the toilet)
LUNCHTIME - Murakami (2nd chapter while resting)
EVENING - Atwood (this being a sci-fi, I don't want to loose sleeping hours)
Laclos (Classic books put me to sleep)
Then on weekends, I will prioritize Laclos. I would imagine that this needs more concentration.
See? This can be managed :)

Hi Po! I'm up for reading "Roadtrip" after we're done with the Haruki Murakami book (early April). I don't usually read these kinds of books but my Dad was given a copy by Ru DelaTorre's mother. I don't know Pastor Ru personally but their house is only a block away from ours.

Let's set our reading pace. I suggest the following:

1) 2 chapters a day everyday (end in 23 days)
2) 4 chapters every other day (end in 23 days)
3) 3 chapters every other day (end in 30 days)
4) 12 chapters every week (end in 4 weeks)
5 15 chapters every week (end in 3 weeks)

The Handmaid's Tale has 46 chapters in all.

Or if you have another idea for a scheduling scheme, please tell us :)

Yes, I thought of that too. I normally start a book on a Monday. I don't know why.

MONIQUE: I have that already but still unread. I read "The Double" and they say that "Seeing" is a continuation of that. "The Double" is great but I think I will read his "The Gospel According to Christ" first. I have that too. I am Saramago's fan! Maybe as my Holy Week read.

Hi looking for another reading buddy, after reading the Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card. Rollie, again, asked me to read the third book, Xenocide. Anyone willing to join the fun? Sorry, I know, we suppose to read the first book but I already read it last year and Rollie read it this month. So we don't have a choice, anyway, we'll start discussing the book on April 8.

About Handmaid's Tale, go na ako sa 2 chapters a day. But I hope we can start on March 28th.

KWESI~ Di ba medyo mahirap if you're reading a series and you're already in the middle of it? I'd like to join sana because my husband has already finished the whole Ender series, but I need to start from the Ender's Game. Maybe you can pick some other sci-fi titles. :)

I'm raring to read this book K.D. but Gahd it's soo thick. Pahinga muna ko sa thick books specially after The Grapes of Wrath. I also tried out the first chapter and I was just bog down by the baseball rules references because, obviously, I'm not a fan of the game. So, yeah, pity me.

Ulysses...the only novel that 200 pages in I still didn't know what on earth I was reading. Abandoned it after the 250-page mark :(

Ulysses is based on Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. James Joyce uses "recurring" character (started with Balzac) technique here by having Dedalus, the young man in his previous book "A Portrait of a Young Man as an Artist" as one of the protagonists here. I read "Young Man" but not Homer's books. I want an expert opinion (Regine, if you can help), do we need to read Homer first?

I agree, Tintin. I twice tried to read this but lost interest. So, I need a reading buddy (or buddies) to make sure that I will be forced to read this. Check any lists of best novels, this book is always there.

I heard that this has lots of sexual content so it heightens my interest to read and understand this thoroughly. My brother even bought me a book (another book as a guide) to read Ulysses.

Let's challenge ourselves. We can do it by reading 5 pages a day so it will not be too hushed up and we fail to understand what the book is all about.
