Just joined the group and right now I am reading Twenty Years After by Alexander Dumas (sequel to the Three Musketeers). And the Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
Last night I finished The Return of Sherlock Holmes by A. C. Doyle and I've started reading The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne for the author-challenge.
I've finished reading Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell last night and I absolutely loved it! Today I've started A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard.
I stopped reading Twenty Years After because I realized it was very much abridged. Almost done with A Picture of Dorian Gray and I just started The Brothers Karamazov.
I'm reading I'm Listening With A Broken Ear
by Vicky Kaseorg. I can totally feel what she's going through with this dog she's rescued and trying to integrate into her family. I like her writing style...
I'm currently reading The Country Girls Trilogy & Epilogue The Country Girls ~ The Lonely Girl ~ Girls in Their Married Bliss by Edna O'Brien.I started earlier this week and it's a buddy read with one of my family members who is reading the Dutch translation of the book. So far it's an interesting story and I'm really enjoying it. I suppose the book would qualify as a 'modern classic', as it was written some fifty years ago.
I am currently reading:Madame Bovary-Flaubert
The Tin Drum-Grass
& my free read is one my hubby won for something during Nurses' Week, called The Spice Necklace, about a couples' travels on their boat in the Caribbean, complete with recipes! We're looking forward to trying some of them too :) This book is a double win. Recipes, & a humorous story :)
Finished the Picture of Dorian Gray. Now reading the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the Brothers Karamazov.
I've finished Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris this afternoon and now I'm reading White Oleander by Janet Fitch.
Reading The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis, Cosmicomics by Italo Calvino, and just finished The Enchantress by Michael Scott. About to begin Omensetter's Luck by William Gass and The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Ted Dekker's Black
... It's... interesting. I'm interested enough to keep reading anyway. And my 10-year-old son is asking if he can read it next. I'll see how I feel when I'm done with it. Right now I'd say he would really like it...

Just finished Dixie City Jam by James Lee Burke and am thoroughly enjoying David McCullough's latest, The Greater Journey
I've just finished reading White Oleander by Janet Fitch and I'm about to start The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.
I've finished reading The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks earlier and now I'm starting Seven Up by Janet Evanovich.
Suzanne wrote: "I'm reading Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton and also Black Heart by Holly Black"Are you enjoying Jurrasic Park? I was suprised at how much I liked it, and Micheal Chrichton in general
Yesterday, I finished reading Seven Up by Janet Evanovich and today I've started The Client by John Grisham.

Are you doing the Buddy read for this?

Yes, Lisa, I do. But it seems like I'm the only one to finish the first short story on the list The Murders at the Rue Morgue so far.
I just started reading Angels and Demons and I love it so far! I was surprisedvar how easy it was to read and understand. I expected the religious story line to get confusing (especially since I'm not religious and know little to nothing about the bible). But Dan Brown explains everything so clearly and he doesn't give unnecessary detail, just gets right to the point. :-) I like that.
I am reading The Affair Next Door by Anna Katherine Green. This is the first in her Amelia Butterworth series. Reading the older English phrases is interesting. I find myself often looking up words.
I've finished reading The Client by John Grisham last night and now I'm reading Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon.
The Name of the Rose is a semiotic, post modern, first novel by a philosopher linguist. It should only be attempted in a four credit grad course like Columbia or Oxford. It should never be attempted at home. The movie was great. There are much more interesting discussions on "What else are you reading" than on my group read discussion group.
Everyman- a trivia question I read on another thread. in what book is there an extensive discussion of the Trojan Horse.
I am currently reading (in addition to group reads--Farenheit 451 and Middlemarch)my way through Philip Roth and Francine Prose. I started Roth more than 25 years ago--his works are writer-in-progress through life novels that relate to my experiences as a KVETCHYNew York Jew in the 20th century. Currently reading "Exit Ghost" from the Zuckerman novels. Francine Prose is a total writer of reviews, prologues, novels, essays, short stories. Read Guided Tour Through Hell (2 novellas). Currently reading her latest, My New Life in America
I've finished reading Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon and now I'm a couple of chapters into Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.

How do you get book titles underlined with italics?

A while ago I decided that I wanted to learn more about Surinamese and Antillean literature, see also Listopia http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/21... Seven of the titles on this list are part of the 'Surinaamse Klassieken reeks' (=Surinamese Classics series).I'm now reading Wanneer wij samen zijn by Karin Amatmoekrim. It is my second book by a Surinamese author, the first one was Hele dagen in de regen by Henna Goudzand Nahar.
A lot of Surinamese and Antillean literature is written in Dutch but several books have been translated later on into English and other languages, for instance books by Cynthia Mc Leod, Rita Dulci Rahman and Clark Accord.
So far I'm really enjoying this new experience.
Last week I finished Death in Venice by Thomas Mann and A Room with a View by E.M. Forster. I was pleasantly suprised how well Forster balances between romance and humour in this story. A Room with a View is a delightful read.
I've finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James earlier today and now I've started The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

To me, Death in Venice is one of the greatest German novellas. E.M. Forster is so humanistic, tells such good tales, with great style (for a colonialist). Read Howard's End, Passage to India
I finished reading Angels and Demons and loved it! I now started on Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.

Lee, thanks for the recommendation. I have several Forster's novels on my Kindle (Maurice, Howard's End and Where Angels Fear to Tread ) and I wasn't sure where to start.
