Wow! Okay, you are an inspiration. You really ran with that promise, Don.

I like your blog, Val. Your pictures are good. I'm glad you made them big!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! ;)
Hubby always jokes and says we had some 'winners' of dishes in the past and then we never see them again LOL, that's because I forget about them and get back into my old routine!.. I really need to take a page out of Don's book and make notes!..
Don,
I agree with Lisa! You're truly an inspiration! Be it here with your reviews or on FB with your food pics, you always inspire me to dig out a book and make a meal! :)
Melissa,
thanks! :) I enjoy them bigger too!
And I don't think it's necessary to always share recipes, at least not when it's from a book most likely all of us have anyway! ;)

Don, While that makes you a wonderful contributing member to this group, your method would drive me nuts. I think for special occasions or once a week, month, year, I'd have to go back and make some things that were my very favorite.
I still think you should write a book (with authors' permission, but why wouldn't they give it?!) with all your very favorite recipes listed. I'd buy that book!

I agree! :) I'd read it too! ;)

Ha! I was a member of ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) for years. I never had the funds to travel the world, but I did travel the country some, but I did ride my favorite coasters multiple times, and so do most coaster enthusiasts.

Ha! I love Goodreads. We're always digressing. So many discussions have nothing to do with any types of books, or the subject of the groups.
ETA: I used to know all the locations in amusement parks to get vegetarian and then vegan foods. Very handy info at the time.

I used to be a big fan of roller coasters! The higher and faster the better.. Then I had kids and don't ask me why but suddenly I'm afraid of height and can't even go in a big ferris wheel without getting anxiety! The only thing I still love to this day is anything that goes fast in side-way motions like those 'Breakdance' rides (I used to spent all my pocket money on those when I was a teen and the carneval came into our town every summer and would stay for 1-2 weeks!). http://andyinoman.files.wordpress.com...
Lisa,
I agree, it's fun! :)
See, those carneval days were still my bad pre-vegan days so I'd have to learn where I could even get vegan food! At least in Germany the sausages overrule everything it seems!.. (And beer, of course! ;) )

Oh, cool! Thanks, Jennifer.

It's called Let's Go Vegan ... ish.
www.letsgoveganish.com
I hope it can be a good place for discussion and comment. Hope you enjoy it!

ETA: How do you follow it? Or can it be followed? Links?/Directions?

I think what Lisa meant is that you haven't made an option to follow you by e-mail etc. yet.
I forget exactly how to do it, it's when you edit the layout etc. you can add HTML and other options to it.
HTH!

And Val, thanks for commenting on one of the posts already! So sweet of you !!!

I'm still finding new features that I had no clue of! LOL (I'm not very internet savvy in general usually so it's already a wonder I'm able to blog! ^_^)
I certainly enjoyed your post and will be happy to continue following you! I'll have to add you to my blog roll too! ;) xo

Sarah,
thanks for your link! I'll have to check it out!:)

I used her other 'Creole black-eyed peas' for New Year's Eve's dinner, paired with collard greens! ;)
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101...

the funny thing is, until last year's New Year's Eve, Hubby never once had black-eyed peas for that occasion and neither did I. (The Germans have other traditions, not so much focusing on food though, I think. I can't remember anymore, it's been so long that I've been gone..)
Hubby grew up the more Irish traditional way with ham and cabbage.. ;) I'll have to see what I can make to replace the ham for next 31st of December..
I have to admit I really grew to like the black-eyed peas though! With some hot sauce, yum! (Makes this German girl feel very Southern! LOL)

I'm always amazed by how much I actually enjoy taking food pics! LOL
I'll have to try the soup soon too! I have tons of dried beans that I'll have to use up b4 the move as they won't pack any food..
That's what I read about the beans for luck and greens for prosperity. Can't hurt to try with that dish, right? ;)
Lisa,
I guess in the US it also depends a lot on which area you're from, huh?
I think in Germany it's traditionally German potato salad and Wiener sausages as well as 'Berliner', which are like sugar coated doughnuts but without the hole! ;)

good point! It's something I really enjoy about the States, having so many cultures mixed and heritage stemming from other places!
I had no idea about where the Hoppin' John dish was coming from, thanks for letting me know! :)
Would you believe it, until this day I never even had a Tamale yet! *eek* I've heard about them, read recipes but never tried one.
Lisa,
I've never been the huge party person but have to say, ever since I have kids, I've become somewhat of a 'wimp' and usually go to bed ~10:30 pm! I can't remember when was the last time Hubby & I actually stayed up for New Year's Eve!.. I'm also a 'lightweight' drinker and rarely drink anyway.. (I usually get headaches from any form of alcohol, so for me it's not worth it. If I have a glass of red wine, that's pretty much it.)
My favorite thing on New Year's Eve was actually during the times I've lived in Germany, when we had fireworks in our backyard and did some lead melting. (Sounds dangerous but it isn't really; one melts a tiny bit of lead in a spoon and lets it roll into a cup with water. The 'sculpture' from this is a prediction what you'll supposedly receive in the newcoming year. It's a fun tradition I plan on picking up again once I have access to some tiny bits of lead. In Germany they sell it pre-made like these http://www.amazon.de/Die-Ideenwelt-Bl... )
Ugh, paperwork and finances doesn't sound fun at all!..

it really is a nice tradition! The fireworks right at home were something I've come to miss the most.. PA is one of the states that doesn't allow it! ;)
A nice get-together playing games etc. is something that I enjoy too! Another tradition is to watch 'Dinner for one' or also called the 90th birthday. Almost every German tv channel airs it at one time on Dec. 31st and it's being watched by many every year. :p http://youtu.be/D-o6jAYQ8kU (Don't hesitate by the guy's initial German introduction if you happen to watch it. The sketch itself is 100% in English! ;))
Don,
that sounds like fun too! :) To be honest I prefer being around sober people vs. drunk! Especially here in the military, things get ugly pretty quickly (well, I guess everywhere really.. But I've seen ugly things go down here in housing..) and like you said, I too prefer waking up the next morning with no headaches etc.

Hey, it's still January, I wonder if I can get the good luck and wealth if I eat my black eyed peas and greens today! Hmmm !!!!
On the topic of blogging (that's what this thread is supposed to be about, LOL!), I recall that Lee or Betsy or someone had posted a very helpful "tips for food photography" link. I found another similar one and wanted to share. Here it is.
"15 Food Photography Tips"

By the way, the lady who wrote the photography tips also seems to have a very nice vegan blog.
Cheers,
Rachel

It's about vegan get-well items. I was just thinking, do we have a thread about this here in our group? Maybe I'll start one. Anyway, here's a link to my post.
http://letsgoveganish.blogspot.com/20...
Enjoy!

I just finished reading your latest blog entry actually ;) I hope you'll get better soon!
After my kids having had a cold on and off for these past weeks, my husband caught it and seems to have passed it on to me now..
Aside from immediately taking Echinacea and zinc, I drink a few cups of hot water w/1 Tbsp ACV (apple cider vinegar) and 1 tsp raw honey [my non-vegan part..]. ACV has the quality of thinning mucus, hence making easier to prevent severe 'clogging'. At least it works well for me. [In the cold season I actually usually drink a glass of lukewarm water w/splash of ACV on empty stomach anyway. Tastes nasty but it's supposed to be good for you! ;p]

I added a new post about vegan shoes today. Enjoy!
http://letsgoveganish.blogspot.com/20...

Don,
wow, even 1 Tbsp straight I couldn't do! My teeth zing just thinking of it! LOL
I use apple cider vinegar too! I can't drink it straight up either. Even slightly diluted with a bit of water is difficult. Brave man, Don!

How wonderful. We get something similar here thanks to Don, Monica, and the usual suspects. I love vegan food porn. :-)
