Captain Sir Roddy, R.N. (Ret.) (captain_sir_roddy) I finished Steven Erikson's conclusion to the "Malazan Book of the Fallen" series, The Crippled God (and my review is posted). I am now re-reading Glen Cook's Chronicles of The Black Company. I am also re-reading Thomas Hardy's Jude the Obscure in preparation for a group read I'm moderating in another group. Finally, I am about halfway through my re-read of Erikson's Deadhouse Gates for the continuing group read in the FBCS group.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Ditched Light. I couldn't get into it, so now I'm starting The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie.

message 53: by Karen (last edited Mar 15, 2011 01:09PM) (new)

Karen (meaninglessname) I'm almost done with A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
I'll be starting The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins soon for my book club.
I'm still working on Eldest by Christopher Paolini, but I haven't had much spare time to read it because I'm just reading it for fun.
I just finished Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen for school, which is what ate up most the the little bit of spare time I had.

Captain Sir Roddy, R.N. (Ret.) (captain_sir_roddy) @ Karen--

Isn't Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" a fabulous novel? I try and read it at least once a year.

message 55: by Tina (new)

Tina (nicotinca) I have finished Wolves of the Calla and started (mm..or more like halfway, it's so damn exciting!) Song of Susannah. I'm trying to take it slow, cause I have to wait to read the last one until April and I've heard this one ends with one huge cliffhanger.
If I (and prob will) finish it early I may read The City & The City or Fire Study. I didn't quite like the second study book, so I'm abit scared to start the last one.

I was delightfully surprised. I read Pride & Prejudice and loved it, but I thought maybe it'd be the only Austen novel I'd enjoy because it was the most famous Austen novel and had a movie with really hot actors in it based on it. But actually, Sense & Sensibility was really good! I loved it. It was so scatological. I got excited over all the drama. I mean, Marianne did get on my nerves a bit, but it was fantastic. I'd go run to my mom and be like, "Omg! You'd never guess what Mr. Willougby did, what a douchebag!" or "I can't believe it! Edward Ferrars has some serious explaining to do! What is the meaning of this?!" Hahaha. Ooooh man...

Yup! It is definitely a great story, with some rich complex and complicated characters. I am so glad that you enjoyed it! Over time you should make the effort to read her other novels (my fave is "Persuasion"). Cheers!

message 62: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments So far this month I've read It Cant Happen Here (my review), Doomsday Book, Magician: Master, The Man in the High Castle (my review) and Dragon's Egg (my review).

Last night I finally started reading The Wise Man's Fear. As soon as I finish that long-awaited novel, I'll start Stormed Fortress and round out the month (maybe) with Deadhouse Gates.

message 63: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Reading A Game of Thrones. I tried reading it three or four years ago and couldn't get into it. But it seems like a book I would normally like, so giving it another shot. So far, so good.

message 64: by Matt (new)

Matt Sinclair (cflames55117) Just finished up Wizard and Glass. I decided to read a couple smaller stand-alones before I tackle the 5th book, starting with Day of the Dragon.

message 65: by Debora (new)

Debora Geary I got a brand new release to check out, of The Empress Sword. Is it bad to put my kids to bed at 6pm so mama can read?

message 66: by Mare (new)

Mare (mare_1503) I just started The Hunger Games and I like it =D

message 67: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Moss (thanrand) I'm about 2/3 of the way through The Warlord's Legacy. After that I think I'm going for Banewreaker

message 68: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Finished Battle Royale yesterday which was an amazing book and absolutely riveting. Just started The Sworn which looks like it could be quite good but there's still a lot of world-building going on at this point.

message 69: by Tom (new)

Tom (pastortomwelch) Hoisting "Wise Man's Fear" is my morning workout, and the story is great too. Re-read NOTW just prior.
I'm working through Discworld during my true workouts on a recumbent bike. Currently on "Sourcery"
Earlier in the month I read the first two books of Ken Scholes Psalms of Isaak series.
After WMF, I'll hit the 100,000 Kingdoms book club read...

I watched the movie and it was terrible but that's usually what happens when they make a book into a movie.

I am reading Wise Man's Fear and Starship Troopers. Does Starship Troopers become more interesting? i am really bored with what i have read so far. After that i will read Lions of Al Rassan, Xenocide and A Cavern of Black Ice. I doubt i will have time to finish all these book this month but it won't be for lack of trying.

Yeah, I have no desire whatsoever to watch the film! My friends have warned me off it completely 'cos I can get by with violence in books but not on TV/films! And if it's a bad film then that's just all the more reason not to bother.

message 73: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Moss (thanrand) I've heard nothing good about the film. So much so that I've stayed away from the book. Is it any good?

message 74: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I really enjoyed the book and I'm not a fan of blood and guts and violence at all. It's an interesting look at how people react in such an extreme situation, where not even knowing someone for years will guarantee you trusting them. Some relationships fall apart completely whilst others stand the test, and this is where the focus is for the most part rather than the killing itself. There are some cultural differences, I think, and the style of writing/translation made me laugh a couple of times, but the story itself is really good and very tense in places.

message 75: by Mach (new)

Mach | 116 comments I haven't read the Battle Royale the book but the movie was overdramatic and ridicoulous, the actors were crying half the movie and i felt like rolling my eyes more times then i can count. I would rate it 1 star.

When you put it that way it sounds pretty good. I'll have to check it out.

message 77: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I hope you enjoy it! :)

message 78: by Robert (new)

Robert (dimndbangr) | 17 comments I am currently reading Legends II: Shadows, Gods and Demons, but I am only reading it for the Tad Williams short story which continues the Otherland series. This story is definitely to be read after reading Sea of Silver Light.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Happy Dance! C.J.Cherryh's newest is in the mail! Betrayer Can't wait!

message 80: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Finished A Game of Thrones. Do not recall why I could not get into it the first time I tried reading it, but really enjoyed it this time. Favorite characters are Tyrion and Jon Snow. There stories were the most enjoyable and fascinating. I kept going back and forth between being completely annoyed with and pitying Sansa. I am interested to see how (or if) her character grows at all.
I stayed home from work with a fever today, and the fever made the book even more dramatic and dark. I'm still feeling like crap, so am going to start a historical romance with a happy ending. I think my brain will appreciate that. But I definitely plan on continuing the series - when I am in the mood for some drama and betrayal.

I just finished that book today too! It was so awesome. I was REALLY upset about Ned, though. I almost didn't want to finish the book after that.

Robert (dimndbangr) | 17 comments Finished reading In the Shadow of Swordsand posted a review here and am now working on Sandstormwhich is pretty good so far.

message 83: by Joy (new)

Joy (crowgirl) Once again I'm revisiting old books. I like Tanya Huff's vampire and the spin-offs but missed this little fantasy Wizard of the Grove which is a reprint combining 2 older novels.

message 84: by Mare (new)

Mare (mare_1503) Starting Mockingjay and I'm not sure if I should start reading Fablehaven or The Alchemyst first.
Any recommendation?

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Fablehaven. I didn't like The Alchemyst.

message 86: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Just starting The Dark Griffin. Anybody read this yet? It has gotten some good reviews here on goodreads.

message 88: by Matt (new)

Matt Sinclair (cflames55117) Read Day of the Dragon, a Warcraft novel over the weekend. Back to the Dark Tower series for me, with Wolves of the Calla.

message 89: by Joël (new)

Joël (jolandaellen) I'm busy reading the Deathgate cycle, currently in book 5.
Along with that I'm reading the latest Pure fantasy, a seasonal Dutch magazine. Short stories can be so refreshing ^^

Next I want to read some more books by Neil Gaiman,
and get started with books from David Gemmell.

message 90: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (ceodraiocht) Just finished The Wood Wife. For my tastes, might be one of the best fantasies I've read in a long time.

message 91: by John (new)

John After rereading the first ten WOT books, I am now reading Knife of Dreams for the first time.

Next up for me will be The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight

I am looking forward to Feist's A Kingdom Besieged in April!!

I haven't read any of Sanderson's books yet, so I am going to try Mistborn: The Final Empire and I'm also planning to read The Name of the Wind soon.

Many posts are recommending Drizzt books, so I may try one of those after I finish all of these other books.

message 92: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Moss (thanrand) I think mistborn is one of my favorite series ever, and the name of the wind one of my favorite books ever. I highly recommend them.

message 93: by Tom (new)

Tom (pastortomwelch) I agree, both are tremendous fun...

Good work on starting Drizzt. May I recommend you to start on the fourth book, The Crystal Shard since it is his first book, this gives a different view on Drizzt's character.

message 95: by Kate (new)

Kate Copeseeley (airdriesg) I am reading:
-Marked by Kim Richardson
-Wings of Evil by JR Tomlin
-Fablehaven #3
-The Forest of Hands and Teeth

Yes, and those are only the fantasy books. I have issues. :)

Loved the Dark Tower series, such a great story. Enjoy! Use to play Warcraft, was the book any good?

It wasn't bad by any means. I think Knaak does a great job with the setting of the book (unlike the Diablo inspired novels). It's mainly just about Rhonin's quest to prove himself and the dragon aspects.

message 98: by Joël (last edited Apr 14, 2011 02:51AM) (new)

Joël (jolandaellen) I have a tendency to change my plans on what to read next, except when I'm not finished reading a series.

But I do have plans to read the Drenai series by David Gemmel.

And something by Janny Wurts.

But if that will be somewhere this month or another I couldn't say :P
