To be perfectly honest, why was she even in the manga or the films? I'm guessing fan service, but she failed in that too. Light, L and Ryuk were enough for me to stay interested.

Did anyone watch L Saves the World? What did you think of it?

You have a point, but it's a double edged sword. You say people that don't like, or hate Twilight can't make fun of it right? Well how about when a crazed Twilight fan jumps a person butt for not liking Twilight, as if that person is some how an alien for not liking it...

That's a good point. I once said to a friend that I didn't really like twilight and she got really defensive and mad and I said "Woah, calm down, I just didn't like it!". She then said "Well if you didn't like it you must be an idiot and I don't talk to idiots". She completely blanked me for a week. That was a really big over-reaction. I don't particularly like twilight, but I don't care if others do. I mean, hey, everyone has opinions and mine isn't the only one that matters.

Bridget's Quiet Corner " Just because you don't get into the hype, or hysteria or whatever you want to call it, doesn't mean that you have to bash the story or the writer. "

I believe because they arent into it they bash it and they dont see the hype of it all because THEY PERSONALLY dont like it. And so many who bash it, I found haven't even read it themselves, and SOME havent even watched the movies. I see people bash a lot of others because of the books they read. I mean really make it personal almost on the person because they read books that they feel aren't "worthy reads". I've seen people on another site basically bash people who like books like Twilight and other vampire books because he was a Dracula fan and thought vampires shouldn't sparkle or go out in the sun. They thought all vampires should stay one way...Like Dracula. There's a lot of things I dont like either and I try not to bash people for it, when/if I find myself headed that way, I always try to remember that there are things I like or do that others may not like. We're all different and enjoy a variety of things, hence, thats why there are such a variety of genre in books, movies, music etc. And I am also a Twilight Adult. My kids aren't into it as much as I am so I can't really call myself a Twilight Mom..lol...I personally began reading the books BECAUSE of all the hype. I wasn't going to at first but I gave in, not thinking that I would enjoy it. I was hooked at the first word in Twilight. I borrowed Breaking Dawn from the library yesterday {4/25/11} and plan on reading it again when Im done with the other books before it, if I dont get to it then I will just try to get to it again in the future. Breaking Dawn is my favorite of them all. With each book I read, each became my favorite until I got to the next one. :0)

Lura (The Life of Serendipity) See what I think makes all the people that didn't like, or love the Twilight series mad is when people compare other books to Twilight. Like let's say a girl goes and starts reading Vampire Diaries and she comes out all angry saying it's a rip off of Twilight. That is something that makes me mad! I mean come on do a little research and you'll find out that Vampire Diaries came out in the early 90s way before Twilight was even thought up at all...! You know I've seen people comparing books that don't even have vampires, witches, or anything that is even supernatural base around them! Just because there is a girl that is torn between two guys doesn't mean it's a rip off of Twilight.

message 269: by Ashley (new) - rated it 1 star

Ashley I read the Twilight books and while I think it is great that they are motivating people to read more I am personally not a fan at all. To me Edward is abusive and controlling, he took apart his girlfriends car so she couldn't go see her friend, and thats ok because he loves her?? Edward is also an underdeveloped character his only characteristics are that he is hot and rich...thats it.

As for Bella she is described as being smart and beautiful and funny but there is no evidence provided in the novels about her intelligence at least Hermione proved her self to be smart. Bella's only flaws (apparently) are that she clumsy (providing opportunities to be saved by a big strong man) and unaware of her looks.

The books are also over written there are only so many times I can be told about how Hot edward is before I get bored. I want more from a novel plus for me the Cullens aren't really vampires, give me Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mystery style Vampire's any day, morally flexiable, corrupt, lustful and hedonistic. Now thats a vampire!

I read the saga because my boyfriend would play his xbox and i had nothing to do and my friend said try these books out so i did. And they got my reading jucies going, now i have read so many more books that are so much better. But if it wasnt for thoughs books to get me hooked on reading i wouldnt be wanted to read everything! sooo....although i no longer enjoy the saga i thank SM for the happiness i now have in reading

LOL, not in the Meyer universe it isn't. You just toss canon aside (even your own) when it's inconvenient to the story.

Lindis Russell That's what's so fun about writing a book. You can change things the way you want them. Specially when it comes to vampires. There are no set rules in stone. Every vampire story is unique. The Cullens are for the 18 year old love sick girl in me. I'll have to agree with you on the Charlene Harris vampires though, they are for the lusting sex starved woman in me. I love them both!!!!

You make a good point :)

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears I have no problems about creating a whole new mythos for whatever supernatural creature one is writing about. Meyers' fail was that she crafted a canon then CHANGED it in order for Bella and Edward to have a kid. Either she says in the beginning of the series that her vampires are capable of producing offspring or they are not. If they were, does anyone think Rose would have allowed herself to remain childless?

message 279: by Bridget's Quiet Corner (last edited Apr 28, 2011 04:38AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bridget's Quiet Corner It says in BREAKING DAWN that they didn't think it was possible for humans to get pregnant by Vampires. It wasnt until she actually got pregnant that things began to come about. She did make a way for things to work out. If you read the book and noticed that when she found out she was pregnant...EVERYONE was shocked. Alice took off and found a guy who was part human part vampire. But because it was so rare no one really thought about it for one and two, Im sure no one thought she would get pregnant. As far as Rose goes, it didnt say anything about her dealing with humans again after she killed the one who had hurt her. Vampires with Vampires, the pregnancy thing was not possible but vampire and human it was possible, in HER {Meyer} book that SHE had enough imagination to write, even if people dont like her writing. But again, this is a fictional FANTASY... The figment of someone's imagination. Its meant to be enjoyed and most of us who read it, enjoyed it. Then of course there are the ones who didnt and the ones who want to be overly technical and point out every flaw. And maybe thats WHY she did it, because NO ONE ELSE HAS that I know of.

The thing is about Twilight is that the writing is absolutely terrible. While reading it, I felt as if my mind was going numb at the utter nonsense. I mean, I guess I could like it if the characters were just a little more realistic. I mean, not everyone is amazingly perfectly beautiful. Also, I just cannot stand Bella. Stop whining! You have two utterly gorgeous guys (although I must admit both are extremely overprotective and manipulative *insert worst word you can think of here*, but still) willing to die for you and you just can't stop complaining.

message 282: by Juliet (new) - rated it 1 star

Juliet I also would like to comment on HOW COULD YOU COMPARE HARRY POTTER AND TWILIGHT!!! Harry Potter is the best book ever and Twilight is complete terrible. Let's compare some characters.
SPOILERS
Bella Swan and Hermione Granger
Bella is a whiny brat who complains about what exactly? That her boyfriend won't screw her? That she has to choose between two guys completely in love with her? Hermione Granger on the other hand, cries occasionally about her friends and how they might be killed by an evil wizard who threatens to take over her world. hmmm..I wonder which character is more reasonable?
Ginny Weasley and Bella Swan
When Edward dumps Bella she spends months in a state of depression that ends in attempted suicide. Ginny, on the other hand, accepts Harry's break up even though she still loves him(not a tear shed). Also, Harry has reasons for dating her, like she's actually fun to be around!
Edward Cullen and Harry Potter
When Edward breaks up with Bella, he lies to her saying that he didnt want her anymore , even though he was just trying to protect her. Harry, on the other hand, tells her exactly why they can't be together, actually showing some emotion. Also, Harry is not a complete jerk.
Jacob Black and Ron Weasley
Jacob is completely jealous and does nothing to hide the fact that he is a complete jerk who wants to hook up with his best friend. Meyers also constantly tries to make him seem funny, but it just doesnt come out that way. However, Ron is actually funny. I laughed out loud more than once because of one of his sarcastic lines. Also, you can tell he loves Hermione and he is jealous of viktor krum, but he doesnt hit on his best friend every chance he gets because thats just weird.

Lindis Russell Okay, sorry but I'm a little tired of the comment "the charachters in Twilight are just not realistic." Uh, DUH, they're vampires, they are not real. They're not suppossed to be realistic! I know that you all have legitimate reasons for not liking Twilight, and I (a Twilight lover) am okay with that, but this is just not one. Um, Gandalf is not realistic, Harry Potter is not realistic, if you're looking for realism, you picked up the wrong book to begin with. Read Marley and Me, or Heaven is for Real. Thoes are realistic books!

By realistic we mean they're not easy to relate to because not everyone looks drop dead gorgeous and acts like they're better than mere mortals. We don't mean it's any more realistic to believe in vampires than wizards but it's easier to believe what they are thinking because unlike in Twilight, not everyone is perfect. Characters like Harry Potter are have faults like we all do, they are not just fantastic at everything without trying. That's what makes them so realistic and lovable.

umm I don't mean to be rude but what is so great about Edward? He is overprotective and takes advantage of Bella more times than I care to count. Why would you want someone like him?

message 287: by Lindis (last edited Apr 28, 2011 05:27PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lindis Russell Okay, thanks for the clarification. But still, yes I'll agree that no one is perfectly gorgeous. But, I don't see the Cullens that way. For example, not everyone is in love with Edward. I think Emmett is way better looking than Edward. Some people like Jasper, or Carlisle. Beauty all depends on who is looking.
When Bella sees the Cullens for the first time in the books, she describes them all as compeletly gorgeous, and that's her opinion. Some of her new friends happen to agree with her. But, you don't see the whole school swooning over them.
And the Cullens do have flaws. Edward is just well, moody. He made a huge mistake in leaving Bella, thinking that she'd be better off with out him. That's a flaw. Rosalie is a complete bitch, (my opinion) she is very stubborn, a flaw. Sometimes, Alice dosen't think about what others think when she goes overboard in planning a party. She just does what she wants, a flaw. I could go on, giving you a flaw for each charachter.
On the surface, the Cullens seem very perfect and flawless, but really they aren't. To me, that makes them very realistic. Because in society today, we do the same thing. We pick an idol, famous or not, and we don't see their flaws because of their beauty, or because of the good things they've done. OR, we simply just don't know them completely.
I understand what you are saying, but do you see my point too?

I guess I can see your point, I shouldn't say they don't have any flaws, but I just don't see how you can say that Meyers doesn't make every one in the whole town fall in love with the Cullens because of their beauty. I also want to point out that I wasn't just talking about the Cullens, but Bella too. She is supposed to be an especially ordinary character, but she is often described as beautiful or else four guys she just met wouldn't be all over her. The characters do have flaws but they are mostly overcome by their many positive traits. In fact in the first book, Bella says something like, " Edward's good at everything." The characters just have supposedly natural talent, rather than having to work for anything in life, making them seem like almighty perfect gods or something. Also, you said you could name a flaw for each character, but that's just picking up on mistakes they made and twisting them into faults, and also, most people have about a jillion and twenty three faults, not just one. I understand what your saying, but I think we should just agree to disagree on this one because I won't be changing my mind anytime soon.

message 290: by Lindis (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lindis Russell LOL! Okay, that's cool. At least you and I can agree to disagree nicely! : )
Of course Bella's gonna say "Edward's good at everything" she's in love! He's had pleanty of time to practice stuff. Like his handwritring, walking, pretending to breathe, needlepoint. : )
I didn't see it as they just had natural tallent. But sure, why not!
And I know what Bella felt like moving to a small town, like they said in the movie, "You're the shiny new toy." I moved to a small town when I was a sophomore, and before school even started I had three boys ask me out and a invite to prom! And I'm nothing to write home to mom about! It was kinda creepy. Crazy, but true.
