Twilight

What's so bad about being a Twilight Fanatic?

Anyway, everyone has his or her own opinion, and people have different tastes. Isn't that what makes the world so interesting? How boring would it be if we all liked the same things?
Anyway, I think we need to just accept each other's feelings about the book- IT'S JUST A BOOK- and deal with it.

You watch Rachel Maddow?? I adore her =)"
She's pretty cool. I've long since forgiven her the softball interview with Pat Buchanan ;-)

Thank you for sticking up for us. The intellegent adult Twilight lovers. Somethimes I think that kids, or young adults, get caught up in these adult conversations without really knowing what they're getting into.
When you said that you liked "Outlander" would that be the ones by Diana Gabaldon?

It is a little weird, but unfortunately it's nothing new either when it comes to Twilight. If I feel bad for anyone, it's the intelligent and thoughtful Twi-hards who are getting lumped in with the what are called 'Twi-tards' who are obviously the more shrill and illiterate of the fanbase. The more thoughtful fans love the books for what they are and most realize there's quite a bit of fail in regards to characterization and/or execution, but they're okay with that. They're not looking for great literature, just escapism. Unfortunately, it is the Twi-tards who are getting most of the attention with their juvenile antics like making a YouTube video addressed to the VP of Universal complaining that the re-make of The Wolfman ripped off Stephanie Meyer (I so wish I was kidding) or breaking up life-long friendships because one loved the books and the other didn't.
I honestly believe that Meyer is being somewhat dishonest to say her beliefs didn't influence her work. There's no author out there who doesn't infuse a little of themselves in their books, it's par for the course. It just seemed that Bella had a lot of goals before she met Edward and then they all went to hell as soon as he entered her life. I mean she argued with him about his paying for her college then his deciding where she should go. Suddenly she's okay with putting that aside? How silly is that? To be perfectly fair though, I'm really not the audience for Twilight. I prefer for my heroines to have a lot more backbone. Give me Katsa from Graceling or Alanna from The Song of the Lioness Quartet.
@Lindis: Oh yes, Diana Gabaldon rocks! Now I can totally fangirl on Jamie and Lord John but I won't do that here, LOL

Mmmmmm, Jamie! : ) So far, I'm just a little bit into Dragonfly but have already bought most of the rest and am looking foward to them! LOL2!

Sure, check it out. It's a huge book and chock-full of Scottish history but so not boring. I think you'll enjoy the turning-upside down of a lot of standard romance tropes.

Like, ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE TWILIGHT.
I was a HUGGEEE fan, & I think I read each book about 4-5 times,
Except New Moon. LOL.
But then. The movie came out.
& I can't even look at those books anymore.
I try reading them again, but it doesn't work.
ROBERT PATTINSON IS NOT HOT,
KRISTEN STEWERT CAN'T ACT.
& TAYLOR LAUTNER HAS A SQUASHED UP NOSE; DON'T KNOW WHYYYYY PEOPLE THOUGHT HE WAS CUTE.

Wow this is not what I wanted. All I wanted to do was post on this thread about how much I love Twilight, and you just had to make a rude and mean comment and start something for no reason. Thanks for calling me immature by the way cause Im the one thats immature, but you can call me a "twi-tard" and a rabid Twihard. By calling me illiterate is another immature and mean thing to say, and if i was illiterate I wouldnt be able to read the books in the first place. How about YOU get a life, and not continue to put fans downs about what they love. AND you dont know me because if you did you would know that most of my good friends dont like it, and I love them and dont put them down. The diffrence with you is that you commented on my first post basically doing exactly what I talked about and knew how much I loved it.
And for whoever you are that randomly joined this conversation, Where did you come from? and who asked YOU two put your opinions into something that has nothing to do with you? You should get a life too, because you really had the time to actually look up the definition of discussion and include it in your argument. Plus, you scanned over my paragraph and noticed my "incorrect punctuation", wow ill give you kudos for that one. And oh by the way I did not call her an idiot because she does not like Twilight, I called her an idiot because she replied to me and STILL replies to me with very rude comments. I didnt say that for everyone who didnt like Twilight its their loss, I was specifically talking about the ones who dont for no reason or because their friends dont. AND NO she was not being polite when she said Twilight is "bad writing" when she obviously knew how I felt about it. I go through this all the time and I am so sick of people like you. If you both commented and said its not my thing and were actually polite about it, I would have respect for you but you didnt do that. Most people are so mean and say things to our faces that are rude and hurtful and you think im so wrong for standing up for myself. So to you not taking what haters say to me is being polite and intelligent?? I have to give you respect?? Hell no. You messed with the wrong fan.

I am so very done with this entire conversation. Go an impress someone else with your obsession.

I don't know how you can randomly join a conversation on an open discussion, I came from a sperm and egg just to let you know anyway. It took maybe 10 seconds to find the definition of discussion, and this is why. I didn't need anyones permission to comment on a OPEN DISCUSSION that what they are here for. If you don't believe me please go up and re-read my post. Obviously there was a good reason for adding it in my argument and like I said before it took 10 seconds and then I was so bored with nothing else to do, because apparently I have no life ( Might I add that was very mature of you). Okay you did still call her an idiot ( just so you know reading through you comment it does seems like you are calling her an idiot because she doesn't like Twilight) Again so then that would make you and idiot too because you have kept replying with rude comments to her?? I agree, people should not bash anything they have not read simply because there friends don't like it, but I have read all the books so I am not randomly bashing them. Actually I wasn't bashing them at all my post really had nothing to do with the Twilight Saga. Her saying Twilight was bad writing is her opinion, just likes it yours to say it's the best book ever ( If that is how you feel) like I said before if you are trying to be adult like, that comes with the understanding that people well say things you don't like about you hair, favorite books, car, anything and were I do agree we should stick up for yourself at some point you have to know when it isn't going to change anything. You obviously won't change your mind about Twilight and others well continue to hate it. So if you want to be mature like you said in your last couple posts you simply shrug it off. I am sorry you are sick of me, I am not going to change just because you don't like me. Again my post had nothing to do with your love for Twilight. Nothing ever said how I felt about it, you don't know if I hate the book or not do you? I never once told so I don't know were that came from. You don't have to respect me, I respect you and your love for Twilight. If my post came across like I was trying to hurt you again I am sorry that wasn't my intention. I simply wanted to point out the way you were treating someone and then turning around and saying you were mature, that was it. I never asked for your respect, and I don't expect it and that is fine you don't have to respect me to talk to me. Once again I wasn't trying to mess with you or Twilight I honestly feel like I am repeating everything I just said. If you are looking for a fight I suggest you go somewhere else because you are not going to find one with me. I am here to talk, polity about Twilight. If you thought I was trying to hurt you, all I can say is yes some of my facts were a little rude but none the less truthful.

This is the kind of juvenile nonsense that makes real Twilight fans look bad. I have my passions too as do we all, but I'd never stoop so low as to call someone "an idiot" or tell them how sad they are because they don't happen to share them. If she'd even bothered to read my previous posts, I made it rather clear that I didn't have a problem with Twilight fanatics. And I also made it clear that I'd actually read the books since it's lame to criticize something you've never read. The irony is that most of the anti-Twilight people HAVE read the books (in some cases more than once) and still came to the same conclusion. Hell, some former Twi-hards no longer like the books with the same enthusiasm they once had.
I realize that my reading tastes aren't geared towards books like Twilight. I like my heroines to be strong, intelligent and resourceful--vampire or no vampire. I also like my storytelling to be more literate and thoughtful, even when read for sheer escapism.

Most Twi-hards are actually pretty cool people. It's the Twi-TARDS who have literacy issues, which explains why they think it's the greatest book ever and bash everyone who doesn't agree.

Then again, hands down to Stephanie for creating this vehemently uninteresting hollow protagonist which anyone can relate to. The not so pretty, nice smelling, clumsy teenage girl who is good at school but doesn't really excel? What ticks me off if that Bella is so plain, she could have had a little bit more depth. She doesn't have to be Jane Eyre deep but at least a little something to bite down into?

I'm an anime/J-Rock geek and trust me, there's a whole lot to poke fun of, but I can just laugh with the rest because some of the stuff that we anime folks do is pretty funny--like hairy guys dressing up like Sailor Moon, LOL. But again, it's all in fun. I don't get bent out of shape if someone says "that's lame" or whatever. To each their own, I say.

What? She was just saying her opinion! That's what discussions are for. She's just explaining why she didn't like the book. There is nothing disrespectful about it. She didn't insult you, or SM. Also, Nakia, instead of hanging around and complaining about how disrespectful everyone is, why don't you move on? Why don't you leave this discussion if you feel so offended by it?

There is nothing wrong with being a fanatic Twilight reader and fan. It's all good! But, pokin..."
Oh a fellow J-Rock geek XD What are the odds I run into one! Their are barely any these days... Oh god hairy guys dressing up as Sailor Moon...I really can't- don't want to imagine that...! I totally agree with you but a lot of people think that their right about everything, yes I'm talking about you Twilight Crazies that can't stop thinking, or speaking about Twilight in every topic that comes up!

That's so sad. Vixenne wrote an insightful post about disliking the book and all you can say is something akin to 'IDIOTS DONT LIKE TWILIGHT! ZOMG!'

Also, why do all of the twi-hards say "It's your loss"? I mean, most of the twi-haters who comment here have actually read the book. They don't like it, so how is it their loss? And for those who say we "don't understand good literature", why is a different opinion a bad thing? Does this mean that, if I don't want to follow a mindless herd, if I want to do my own thing, that means I am therefore not worth listening to? For all those who think that, I pity you, for you do not understand the benefits of perspective.

And as for the plot... Bella is a idiotic girl who should have been killed by the end of the first book. But of course she wasn't, just because it would make more money for the author.
Just one more thing-Twilight is the stupidest series I have ever read.

Twi-hards are hard-core fans. They know the books are merely escapist fare and they love it in spite of its many flaws. They'll argue passionately but fairly in Twilight's defense, but they also laugh about it too. They're not obsessed to the point of silliness and most find the other peripheral characters like Rose and Emmett far more interesting. Most Twi-hards are reasonable and tend to be rather widely read.
Twi-tards are on another planet entirely. They're obsessed with everything Twilight to the point where boyfriends (or potential boyfriends) are measured against the "hotness" of Edward Cullen. They tend to write everything, including school essays, in chat-speak and send YouTube videos to the head of Universal pictures complaining that the re-make of "The Wolfman" ripped off Stephanie Meyer and that real werewolves don't act that way. Twi-tards are shrill and will attack anyone (sometimes physically) who dares to criticize the books or the films. To a Twi-tard, Stephanie Meyer belongs in the same literary canon as Emily Bronte and Shakespeare.

Interestingly enough, I have no problem with authors tinkering with vampire canon. Doing so helps keep the genre and the character fresh. The problem is Meyer created her own canon then chucked it by the time she wrote Breaking Dawn. She seemed to want Bella to have a baby and she was going to make that happen, regardless of what she'd stated in the previous books and what readers assumed could happen.

Okay, I consider myself a Twilight fan. I don't like the word Twi-hard (anymore). I for one have never said to thoes that don't like it, "It's your loss" or "you don't know good literature." I am begining to value the opinions of the non-twilighters. Everyone has different opinions of what good literature is. And everyone reads for different reasons. I do not read, to find the finest literature. All I have to do, is listen to experts to find it if I want to read it. I read to be entertained, to get lost in a world that dosen't exhist. Twilight has done that for me. But it's not the only books that have.
The original reason for this post was to ask the question, What's so bad about getting totally into a book? (in hindsight, the question should have been worded differently, I guess) I don't see the problem in it. At all!
Some people can't see how someone can get lost in a book with, plot holes, or grammar errors, or is just bad writing. And I understand that now. I don't think badly of people that don't like Twilight, I just don't see why they don't like me, because I do.
I understand that they don't like thoes people who are so passionate about it that they get, well, just down right stupid. I don't like them either. I believe that there is a difference between me and them. I will agree that the Twilight Saga is not the best thing ever written. I get it!!!
But my friends and I love it. We talk about it often, we make jokes about it. Whenever there's a thunderstorm, we send each other texts that say, Oooh, vampire baseball! We have Twilight shirts. We own the collectors editions. Be buy each other twilight realted gifts, because it's fun!!! I have never tried to recruit someone to "the vampire side" or to try and get them to bite the head off a live chicken at the Cullen church! (oh come on admit it, that was funny, and sorry if that offended anyone.)
I guess for my group of friends and Twilight fans, it's all in good fun!!! What is so wrong with that?

BTW, I absolutely loathe Justin Bieber! He makes me wish for the days of N'Sync, LOL.
@Lindis: There's nothing wrong with having fun with your love of Twilight. I've nothing against you and in fact you sound a lot like me with my geek girl passions. Hell, I know that some of the books I've read over the years are sheer escapist fiction and I'm good with that (though I do love my classics, LOL). People aren't surprised (much) to see me with my Sunako Nakahara tote bag (from The Wallflower) or my Robotech t-shirt. The thing is, I don't take it personally if people don't get it. They don't and no amount of talking about Miyazaki is going to change their mind. Oh well.

Well it's still stupid for people to think that because some people don't like a book, any book, should burn in hell for all eternity :rolls eyes: I mean I was totally in love with Twilight when I first read the first 3 books, but soon I began to hate it because every teenager and adult woman alike all screamed TWILIGHT XD I can't stand it anymore. I mean I've read other books since Twilight and I don't think that Twilight is anywhere near the best book in the whole world...

See that's okay, but what I'm talking about is when you get snowballed by teenagers and adult woman alike with Twilight this and Twilight that. They can't stop talking about it...

Hehehehe The Wallflower was awesome... I only watched the Anime and I couldn't stop laughing!

No problem. I'm a Light girl myself. Yes, I know. But he was such a complex character and while I didn't like his actions as the story progressed, overall I understood what drove him. He's like Mordred of the Arthurian legends in a way.

Lol when you said Ichigo I thought you meant your were going to cosplay as Ichigo from BLEACH XD

I have nothing against people who liked twilight! I must admit, I didn't think it was too bad at first, but when I re-read it I found that I didn't like it as much. I don't believe all twilight fans are utterly insane, many of my close friends enjoyed it, there are simply a few who get a LITTLE bit too excited! It's all in good nature, and I don't read for the finest literature either. I simply read for enjoyment and entertainment, and if for someone else that means Twilight, so be it!

Not a Bleach fan. I'm doing Ichigo the bad-assed Yanki schoolgirl friend of the Baby, the Stars Shine Bright-obsessed Momoko. If you've never read or seen Kamikaze Girls you should. It's really good.
