Cosmic Sher (sherart) My BIGGEST 'did not cheer me up today':

ROOT CANAL - and one where the doctor keeps repeatedly saying "Hmm... this is a really tricky one", as he is wrenching the drill back & forth inside your mouth to loosen something up.

I hate dental work... right up there with giant spiders.

Thank the Gods & Goddesses for codeine. :(

Oh man Sherrie... you have my sympathies with that. I'd rather drive spikes into my skull than have dental work. I hope you have plenty of the good drugs. Remember to eat. I made that mistake after my wisdom teeth extraction. Feel better soon!! Take some arnica internally if you can get your hands on it. You will heal faster.

message 253: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) LOL Arnica is the first thing my Mom had me take, even before the codeine. Homeopathy rocks. (Also taking Belladonna)

She also made me home-made chicken noodle soup & bought me tapioca puddin. My Mom is the coolest.

Thanks for the well-wishes. :)

ahhh... good mama! sounds like you should be on the mend quite soon. **

Cosmic Sher (sherart) Oh Sherri, dontcha hate it when the yummy food gets the better of you? Dangit. Have you ever tried food enzymes? My Mom takes those for food related issues.

Pepper Bacon is always worth it, though. ;)

I'm using my experience as a good lesson for my daughter to BRUSH YOUR TEETH EVERY DAY, which is what I didn't do when I was little and now I'm suffering for it. Actually, that and a irrational fear of dental implements. (still have that though) I have to thank the Goddess for this dentist though. This was the worst case he'd seen in a long time, coupled with my too little mouth & teeth, and he was so calm & compassionate & professional. I couldn't have done it with some cranky old curmudgeon dentist without it ending in bloodshed (not mine). The last thing he said to me was "Don't forget, you have to come back to finish. But the WORST is over!", and then he patted me on the shoulder like a cute little grandpa. He was so sweet.

Félix (habitseven) Those of us who have moved around a lot have to deal with the "find a good dentist" routine. Also applies to hair cutters and family doctors. It's a painful process. I have stories!

I'll never forget the one dentist who had his office in his home, with no assistant and no receptionist. He spent most of the visit talking about the personal problems of his other patients when they would call him during my exam. He was abandoned very quickly, thank you.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) Ooh, I cannot abide poor doctors, dentist, etc. They are there to be the professional & provide a service, not make you feel like you're wasting their time.

I, too, have years & years worth of stories about bad doctors & dentists. I absolutely love my doc now, but she's very different. The one I went to before her, at OHSU no less, was a nazi nightmare who wouldn't listen to me (I tend to research like crazy because I've had to help determine some of what's going on with my weird body). I think if you don't fit into their nice, neat, predetermined box they don't know what to do with you and feel personally affronted that you are there taking up space.

Another, also at OHSU, would not look me in the eye and would only talk & listen to my husband. Like he was the go-between and I, as a woman, shouldn't really know anything about my body (Hello! Over 30 years experience with my own health here). Then, when I said no to going on some really harsh medication for something that wasn't that serious (but, really, the only thing he could focus on 'cause he wouldn't listen to anything else I was telling him), he accused me of refusing treatment and wrote it in his notes. Ooh, I coulda kicked him in the nads! Instead, we just left and never went back.

Félix (habitseven) Kate! Birds LOVE the rain!

message 260: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ah. I see. Sorry.

message 261: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I had no idea you were into birds. Do you feed them as well? Or just stalk them (in the non-menacing sense of the word) where they go?

Not Bill | 1061 comments That an old friend...someone I dated actually, was murdered by a guy who was once one of my best friends and father to a good friend of my daughter.

That sucktastic enough for ya?

message 265: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) That's horrible.........must be hard to try and get your head around it.

message 266: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) Holy crap. That pretty much trumps anything I could complain about. Sorry to hear this NB.

message 267: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments Thanks all and yes, trying to wrap one's head around it doesn't work.

I've got a CD from the gal who was the victom in this case. All she ever wanted to do was sing...and she could. Pat Benatar clone....4'11" and a voice with the power of a full Marshall stack. Last I saw her was on the local pub access channel...and SRT musical production - she had one of the leads. It was clear she was having fun, and that's what I'm sticking with.

message 268: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Coming late to this. What a horror, NB. But I like your attitude.
