I looked around and I guess Sony and Audible don't get along. Do you have another mp3 player you could use? I'd like to point out that audible files do play on the Kindle... just throwing that out there.

Amanda wrote: "I just finished Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder and I really liked it. Finally a good YA book!"I liked this one as well!

and it hooked me within the first couple pages. I'm very excited about this book :)"I currently have that on my bookshelf. Good to hear it starts strong!
I'm curious about Firelight. Considering adding it to my Christmas list but I've read some of the reviews and want to make sure it's something I'll probably like. So let me know if people who dislike Twilight/Shiver will like it.

PROS:
1. I haven't read about part dragon changers.
2. The begining of the book is really good, it makes you want to keep reading.
3. The ending of the book makes you want to read the next in the series right away...dang clif-hanger
4. I will read the next book.
CONS:
1. This is another version of Romeo and Juliet. Yep. *Sigh*
2. The middle of the book gets boring. The main character, Jacinda, gets a little depressing and it drags on a bit.
3. They don't explain much about Jacinda's past and the character development is slow. I am hopeing the next in the series will expand on the latter.
Peep wrote: "Hey! I just finished that one! I liked her mom."Her mom's notes rock! Next I will have to read the Ghosts of Ashbury. Have you read it yet? It is quite thick!
Firelight is very heavy on the love at first sight/soulmate thing.I hate comparisons to Twilight (since every single love story gets compared), but you can't avoid it with this book for two reasons :
There are references echoing the "you are like a drug to me" in Twilight.
The male lead leaves school a lot with his family on the excuse that they're going fishing, but instead they go dragon hunting? Sound familiar? Replace fishing with camping and dragon hunting with animal hunting and there you go.
Did I like the book? Yes. Do I think that everyone in this group will like it? No. It's a very young love/meant-to-be type of story. The dragon thing is very cool (as is the fact that her boyfriend admits that he hunts dragons - I LOVED that he was like, "uh yeah...I kinda do this"), but the fact that they are dragon shifters doesn't mean that you're going to get lots of action or shifting sequences.
If you like cute love stories, you'll like this. If you prefer more non-stop story/action, you probably won't.
I just read "Nightshade," a paranormal series by Andrea Cremer. She is an author to watch! - Carolyn

!!!!HIEDI I!!!!!! CLICK ON THIS THREAD SO YOU CAN SEE THIS NOTE!!!!! IT'S RIGHT HERE!!!
Hahahaha. I have not read Ghosts yet. It has been on my wishlist and an ILL request since I read Secret Assignments. I might just go ahead and buy it. They aren't cheap though!
Okay thanks for all the Firelight tips. Will probably wait for the library to get it to give it a chance (because it sounds like there's a good chance I won't like it)
Ha Peep! Now I just need a letter from the Association of Teenagers! p.s. I have seen Ghosts of Ashbury about 10 times at my library...wonder what the hold up is at yours???
Some books we get, some we don't. All the Jaclyn Moriarty books that I've gotten have been through ILL or PBS.
Heidi I my coat looks blue and upon closer inspection it is blue!Peep
Heidi I do you realize how crazy and lame (but also funny (but only if you've read the books)) we sound? We should get out of the house more often.

Finished Firelight and I really liked it.. but if you didn't like Twilight I would stay away.Just started
and it's kind of weird so far. It just throws you in without any real explanation.. but I'm sure it'll come as the book progresses.
Finnikin came in the mail today! It's hard to not put Torment down (which I'm not enjoying) and start reading it now.
Dirty Little Secrets by C.J. Omololu is next on my list to read, then Far from You by Lisa Schroeder. Here's a technical question...How in the heck do you make the actual book show up in the comment? I tried posting the link and it didn't work. grrrrr.

Just finished Lover Mine and now have to anxiously await the next book in the series. I'm getting ready to start
. Based on this thread, it sounds like I will like it, but I'm not looking forward to the cliffhanger.

Its a little like HG... I enjoyed it, maybe you will too.

Amanda,
Right above the comment box is a link that says "add book/author". Click on that and search for the book or author you want. Make sure the radio button for "cover" is checked (that way it will show pictures, otherwise it will be links). Viola, instant book covers and links to their GR pages. Alternatively, you could get a pic somewhere else online and use that (using the img tag I think). The plus is that pics would be bigger. The downside is that it's more work.
There's a big chance I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Listening to
. Seriously it's 14 CDs. It's gonna take FOREVER unless I go on a long road trip. Also reading Valiant by Holly Black.

I kinda wish I was reading Hunger Games for the first time (again). It was such a good experience...

Like Isa said, it's a little like HG, but it isn't the same. There are comparables (kids fighting against their maze creators / trying to escape a maze to survive), but the kids aren't turning on one another. They have to work together to find a way out.
Cassi wrote: "I kinda wish I was reading Hunger Games for the first time (again). It was such a good experience..."So true Cassi! :)

I wouldn't compare it to HG hardly at all. The only thing really remotely the same is their genre. They're both dystopian. This one only got 2.5 stars from me. The writing was below average, the characters weren't very believable, the way the story was told was confusing and the book left you with way more questions than answers. I was pretty disappointed by it if you can't tell, but others loved it, so by all means, read it.
I'd compare the two in the sense that if you like HG then you may like MR as well. In my case I really liked HG, liked CF, (didn't like MJ), and really liked MR.

Cassi the 3rd book in the series has like 17 CD's, so it is even worse! But the audio is well worth it - the narrator is excellent. p.s. the 2nd book is my favorite of the series :)
I enjoyed the first one on tape quite a bit. I've been waiting 3 months on the library waiting list for this book. 17 CDs? How long is the book version?
Slightly off topic, I recently had someone on youtube call me lazy for listening to audiobooks then reviewing the book. They said something about listening to boring no-personality readings. Clearly they've never listened to audiobooks...lol. A lot of the time an audiobook takes me a lot longer than a real book does.
Cassi that person is an idiot! Audiobooks rock and they count just as much as reading. Besides there are a lot of elderly and disabled people who can no longer read so have to use audiobooks. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't listen to them on my daily commute -- what does the idiot think I should read while I drive????
This was a youtube idiot. I posted a video about Witch and Wizard called "Do Not Read This Book" and gave my review. Rather than offer a counter review people just posted a lot of hater comments (because apparently giving a bad review is a crime).I had 2 people who criticized me for reading audiobooks on the video. I listen to them on the commute too. I suspect they are teenagers who don't understand the dullness that is commuting to a job. You can read twice as many books with audiobooks. Most people who listen to audiobooks actually have a more serious commitment to reading in my experience...casual readers just don't normally do audiobooks.
Depends on the person. Some people learn/remember better by hearing than seeing. Audio books would be a wasted effort for me, and I'd be cheating to count them (if I actually listened to any) as I wouldn't remember any of it minutes later and/or would constantly be rewinding and pausing :O
Anytime I've tried an audio book I've not lasted, I get distracted. Also, I don't commute. I drive about 5 minutes to work, so there isn't alot of time for Audiobooks.
I still wish I could. I want to buy Outlander on Audio, and I'm going to make myself listen to it.
