Does the whole Peeta vs. Gale thing turn into an Edward vs. Jacob thing? Because I'm only about 100 pages into book two and I think she's nuts if she doesn't pick Peeta. I reserve the right to change my opinion if she actually develops Gale's character a bit...so far he's hunted a little, gotten mad at her, kissed her once and gotten whipped. Peeta, he saves her over and over and over again. He really loves her! (You know, in the fictional book character sense of "really".)

I'm totally an Edward girl though, so I feel like I should be voting for Gale. He seems more the Edward and Peeta the Jacob of The Hunger Games...

message 3252: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Amelia I am a Peeta girl myself, but I think by the end of the third book it is more about wanting all three characters to stay alive instead of who will end up with who.

Lori (tyme2read) I finished The Little Coat : The Bob and Sue Elliott Story last night and have just started Willow

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments yeah I don't think by the end of the third book you really care who she ends up with - you kind of just want it all to end already. That makes it sound like I didn't enjoy it but I gave it four stars I swear!

I don't think it's like the 'edward and jacob thing' ; D

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I am on page 85 of 484 in Halo by Alexandra Adornetto. It is o.k. so far. I would definately peg this as a YA book. I find myself already knowing how the next chapter is going to go and the ending is already played in my mind. If I am right I may not be reading the next in this series, which wont be out for a while.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Its a lot less annoying than the Edward and Jacob thing (NO OFFENSE TWILIGHT PPL).

I liked Peeta but I think we ultimately all decided we were team Katniss.

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments Alyssa- have you read Echols other romantic drama Going Too Far? It's one of my favorite books.

message 3261: by Darryl (new)

Darryl Markowitz (darrylsmarkowitz) | 15 comments You know i was going to typse the same reservation but then decided to leave it for others to decide. I read the whole Sword of Truth series and loved it. But I also taught high school and am privy to what kids do, say, feel and know that they're parents might not lol. My deciding factor on recomending it even YA is because the heroes fight against the injustices and violations of life. The series teaches how to confront evil, keep integrity, manage anger and above all to think for yourself. As a teacher i always valued those lessons highly in class. And yet, I can also agree with your sensibilities in flagging those scenes. Teens are at one moment apparent adults and the next instance 10 yrs old lol. What particularly didn't you like besides that, I'm curios.

Jen | 14 comments Just finished City of Bones and Shiver over the weekend. Started MockingJay today...and am ready to get back to it too!

message 3263: by Book (new)

Book (bloodwitch) | 90 comments I'm Team Peeta, and he was my fave (main) character, and Katniss would actually irritate me a bit so I definitely was not Team Katniss lol

And I'd say Gale is the "Jacob" if Twilight comparisons must be made

message 3264: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka I'm currently reading the Mortal Instruments series. I'm conflicted about this series, mhmm. I think it has potential but since I read Mockingjay, it appears to me very... lame. In a way, it's good, cause I really needed a break after Mockingjay (it was an incredibly and beautifully painful book, gah *brainwashed*) and the dialogue is good, the jokes make me laugh so hard. xD An enjoyable read.

I gave up on Mortal Instruments. It read like fan fiction to me, where as The Hunger Games, which I loved, read like a novel (if that makes sense)?

message 3267: by [deleted user] (new)

Darryl, well, where do I start?

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

...pretty much says it all. I have several friends who loved it, like you. Maybe I'm broken and just cannot appreciate it. Have you ever read any David Eddings? The Elenium series was my favorite so far.

I see what you mean. I just posted my review and I explain that I feel like there is no real story but it's probably because I can strongly feel the Buffy, HP, and other influences, while on the other hand, The Hunger Games is very unique (well, at least, I never read anything I could draw a parallel with) and a very well written story, with actually a meaning. I like books with symbolism, a purpose to achieve, a message to give. And I don't feel that with the Mortal Instruments series, but I wouldn't spit on it like it was the worst book on earth (I save that for Eragon, lol xDDD).

Becca | 1608 comments Heidi I wrote: "Becca I agree with Amelia, skip the third Anne movie. It actually came out only 5-10 years ago (way after the first two)."

Nope, haven't seen it and the way it's described, I don't want to. I'll stick with my Anne movies I love. As I'm going through the book, I keep seeing the scenes from the movie in my head. That's when you know a movie has been done well.

message 3271: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments Just finished Dark Flame and wonder why I bother subjecting myself to that series any longer. I am sucked in for some reason and since it's a light quick read I can't help but be a masochist...

I'm currently reading Lover Eternal and listening to Flawless on audio.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've been trying to stagger my books so I'm reading 1 YA and 1 adult around the same time, but it doesn't always work out that way.

Right now I'm doing - total coincidence that they both have steampunk elements.
Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Next up will be :
The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King The Hourglass Door (Hourglass Door Trilogy, #1) by Lisa Mangum

Becca | 1608 comments Anyone want to answer as to what the term "Steam Punk" entails? I've seen it come up a couple of times and feel totally clueless.

message 3280: by Book (last edited Sep 09, 2010 08:09PM) (new)

Book (bloodwitch) | 90 comments It's usually stories set in Victorian times--or otherwise Victorian-esque without actually taking place in that era--with technology that blends history and science fiction. Sometimes Alternate reality or futuristic.

Other historical eras are less common, but do exist.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_punk Yes, it's wikipedia but it's a good enough introduction (plus there's pictures ;) )

message 3281: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments So Incarceron could be considered steam punk? Or what's a really great example of the genre?

message 3282: by Book (new)

Book (bloodwitch) | 90 comments It could be, yes. It would be the futuristic version that uses older styled technology, and it's not Victorian set but more Baroque.

Haven't read these yet, but: Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 1 by Alan Moore Steampunk by Ann VanderMeer

And Leviathan (Scott Westerfeld) is fantastic.

I just finished it and I was pretty underwhelmed the whole time. There were a lot of typos and it didn't seem very well conceived. I like the idea but the book itself wasn't that great. I will read the next ones in the series because I'm intrigued by the plot.. but.. I don't know. I don't think it deserves the hype. I have a full review on my blog: http://readhotreviews.blogspot.com

Rachel (rbg23) I just started Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just finished that one. I liked it okay, but it read completely different (for me) from the back cover description.

When you finish, I'd be curious to see what you think of it.

I tried to read this book. I got through the second chapter and returned it to the library. Definately wasn't my kind of book. I couldn't stand the main character, and the authors writing style got to me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I gave it about 2.5 stars for being okay, but nothing spectacular. Although, had I went into the book expecting it to be different from the cover description, maybe I would have enjoyed it more.
