Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments Oh, I forgot..I'm also reading Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn which is not YA. It's not really my style either so I may not be finishing it.

It's different from what I expected. I actually was a little irritated with Rose for the first half of the book (she tells TWO people that she's "not very smart"), but then it's suddenly started to become more interesting. I like the scary thing that comes after her!

How was Dark Parties? That seems interesting...

I liked a lot about it, including the overall concept, a great action scene towards the end, and the cute boy on a motorcycle. (<--always helps.) I thought the world-building could've used some work, though--more detail, more complexity, etc. I gave it a solid 3 stars, and I'm interested enough to probably check out the next one.

For what it is worth I was laid off 3 months ago after 19 years at the same company and I am now happier at a new job. Lloyd, it is scary but I believe you will be OK and in a better situation.

My book recommendation for you is Sarah's Key. I just read this one last week and thought it was fabulous!

How well I know the feeling. My hubby was laid off and since I work for a school I am not paid during the summer months. I know how scary it can be. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Never lose hope :)

message 9585: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments I think Fallen is one of those books where people love it or hate it, Jennifer. I was personally not a huge fan, but I know it has a lot of fans.

Have you read
Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand Angel Burn (Angel Trilogy, #1) by L.A. Weatherly Mercy (Mercy, #1) by Rebecca Lim ?

All really excellent angel books if that's what you're in the mood for!

Lloyd | 415 comments Thanks for the good wishes everyone. You're my great support group!

I'm a little freaked, but more optimistic than anything else. This is a much needed change that I am looking at as an opportunity and not a loss at all.

Oh, and to stay on topic a bit...I'm ALMOST done with Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant !!!

Agree about Fallen. It was a 2 star read for me, but I did like the sequel a bit better.

Unearthly was very good.

Kurukka Currently reading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . It hooked me from the beginning but I'm more and more confused as the story progresses... I'm sure I'll have a lot to say about it once Im finished.

There are definitely some confusing things and inconsistencies but if you are able to get past it it's a great story.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Lloyd I was avoiding commenting because I was laid off from a newspaper in 2009. It was terrifying but somehow freeing because I didn't want to stay in newspaper. However the fear of being laid off has never left me. It's something I worry about on a regular basis especially in this current economy.

Still reading Strings Attached by Judy Blundell which got better once I got out of my "this isn't what I'm in the mood for" mood. Funny how that works.

I finished War Dances by Sherman Alexie and recommend it if you liked The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie . It's a collection of short stories and poems but I really like Sherman Alexie.

I feel that way about accounting. But...that's where most of my official experience is and I need to make the most money I can to support my family. However, that being said, this makes me realize that it's sad to have to rely on someone else's business to support me and it's time to work on something of my own. (I sure as hell won't lay myself off!) :P

Not to mention those creative aspirations I still need to fulfill. Like the whole reason I started reading YA again in the first place... :)

Fallen is on my ABSOLUTELY HATED list, but my best friend loved it and swears I am crazy.

I am going to try to read Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld ...The same friend recommended it to me so we will see.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments So not exactly a related note. But I want to read a book that makes me feel warm and fuzzy the way Enchanted does. I'm not typically a girly girl but something about this movie melts my heart and soul.

message 9597: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Field (jdfield) | 47 comments Vampire Academy number 1. For about the first third I constantly ahd the feeling I'd accidently got the 2nd one of the series. Confusing...

I think I might have in college. Not sure actually. Maybe I need to figure out if I've read that or not.

Enchanted has quickly become a favorite Disney movie. It's sweet without be obnoxious, and I think part of that is because Amy Adams is so charming as Giselle. Near the end when they're dancing & he starts singing along I pretty much die every time. Enchanted was just incredibly well done. When they said they were going to make a "live action Disney Princess movie" I had my doubts.

Victoria (closer2coma86) | 83 comments Lloyd, so sorry to hear the bad news. I know how scary it can be. I got laid off in '09 from my very well paying job. I ended up having to move out of my expensive apartment, put off some credit card bills, yank my son out of daycare, etc. It was a big shock to my system and really puts you down in the dumps but I ended up waiting tables and eventually got bumped up to assistant manager. I only make about half of what I used to make, but I work less, see my son more, and am happier. It will all work out.

On the book note, you check out the The Spellman Files (The Spellmans, #1) by Lisa Lutz . Its about a female private investigator that has a really crazy family that get into all sorts if shenanigans. It's really hilarious!

As for what I am reading, I just started The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa this morning. Liking it so far!
