I read that in college and it creeped me out. There is another book that is along the same lines that is supposed to be really good. It's on my tbr list.

Yay for Netflix. I hope it is a good audiobook Brandi. I am always worried about people trying audiobooks when it is not one I have listened to myself. Good luck!

message 9055: by Gina (new)

Gina Rose (ginarosereads) Just finished If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman , now moving onto On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta .

I really enjoyed If I Stay, and would definitely recommend it.

One of my all-time favorite series! Enjoy Tish.

What book is that?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma has a similar situation where a brother and sister turn to each other out of need/loneliness. It's a very good book.

Daria (dariadeptula) Stacia ~ perpetually perplexed wrote: "Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma has a similar situation where a brother and sister turn to each other out of need/loneliness. It's a very good book."

I've heard about that one, and it's on my TBR list, but to me it seems very very different from Flowers in the Attic. It seems more like incestuous romance than horror.

message 9060: by Caryn (new)

Caryn (carynreads) I just started The Forest of Hands and Teeth, and I'm not sure what to think so far. I am not a big fan of zombies, but this book has a good romance theme to it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It is Emily, sort of, but it's not really a traditional type of romance. It's very heartbreaking and a bit shocking in parts. Nothing about their situation comes easy to them.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Catie wrote: "The Forest of Hands and Teeth is such a divisive book - There are tons of 1 star and 5 star reviews for that one!

I am in the 1 star camp."

And me and Catie normally agree but I liked it. It's just one of those books.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I feel somewhere in the middle. It was about 3.5 stars for me. I was engaged while reading it, but the end frustrated me a bit. Mary was very selfish.

message 9064: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Mayer (ashleymayer) | 125 comments I liked The Forest of Hands and Teeth but I'm not reading any further in the series. I'm the same way Caryn (not a big fan of zombies).

message 9066: by amy (new)

amy (asmith519yahoocom) | 80 comments i loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan and The Dead-Tossed Waves (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #2) by Carrie Ryan haven't read The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #3) by Carrie Ryan yet though.
i want to read Graveminder by Melissa Marr too, let me know what you think of it.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I didn't like the 2nd as much, but I've heard the 3rd is better than the 2nd. Waiting to see if the library gets it (I've read them all as library books)

I think I understood Mary's selfishness more than most because I was grieving at the time I read the book & grief is a very selfish emotion.

message 9068: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments I second the recommendation for Forbidden--it's very sensitively written and made me cry buckets of tears.

I liked the Forest of Hands and Teeth, did not care for #2, but then enjoyed #3 again. But I kind of hope that's the end of it.

I just finished Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer which was a big disappointment. :( I'm trying to figure out what to read next, as nothing in the the huge pile I have lying around is grabbing me right at the moment. I'm just in one of those moods.

message 9069: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 29, 2011 04:55PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Forbidden was quite emotional. I can't explain it, but I felt it.

message 9070: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yep, that was the book I was talking about. I'm staying away from this topic in case someone accidentally slips a spoiler! :p

message 9071: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) Speaking of which, does anyone know the US release date for Forbidden? I know it's already out in the UK.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments June 28 according to Amazon.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Just finished The Lost Conspiracy by Frances Hardinge . Recommended if you like really unique world building/mythology. Probably not if you don't like fantasy. At times it moves slowly, but its just so different.

I'm finally going to jump on the bandwagon and read Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning . We'll see how this goes.

message 9074: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) About to start Between the Sea and Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore . A reliable resource told me that it's light and mindless, which is exactly what I need after Flowers in the Attic (Dollanganger, #1) by V.C. Andrews

message 9075: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Ohh, I'm so looking forward to reading Between Sea and Sky, Emily! Can't to hear how it is. :)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wendy Darling wrote: "Ohh, I'm so looking forward to reading Between Sea and Sky, Emily! Can't to hear how it is. :)"

I really hope this is a good mermaid book. With all the mermaid hype I'm ready for one that doesn't stink.

message 9077: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments I know, there have been a lot of mermaid stinkers. I liked the way Jaclyn Dolamore wrote Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore though--it was very descriptive and fairy tale-like. Bodes well, I hope, for this one!

I just started The Heart Specialist by Claire Holden Rothman , which I really like so far. It's about one of the world's first female doctors, and opens with her as a 13-year-old girl in Canada...dissecting a squirrel in a barn. Really cool subject, really well written.

message 9078: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) So far I haven't read a YA mermaid book that I liked, so I hope that Between Sea and Sky will show me that there are good ones!

message 9079: by Shelia (new)

Shelia (strawberrypanic-ouran-furuba) The only YA mermaid book I've read is The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan , which I loved.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Just finished If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman and am starting The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness while I wait for Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman to come in at the library for me to pick it up. Also have Sisters Red (Sisters Red, #1) by Jackson Pearce waiting for me to read so it can go back. I love my library!

(Knife is mine... I just haven't gotten around to reading it and it was chosen for me in the Give Me Five. :) )

How did you like If I stay? I recently just finished Where She Went and loved it.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Cassi (is secretly listening to Heidi SHHH) wrote: "I'm finally going to jump on the bandwagon and read . We'll see how this goes..."

I know you've heard this before, Stacia & Heidi said it too, but this is one of those series that gets better and better with each book. So try to reserve Judgement until you've read a couple...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wendy F wrote: "Cassi (is secretly listening to Heidi SHHH) wrote: "I'm finally going to jump on the bandwagon and read . We'll see how this goes..."

I love how it's Judgement capitalized. Only read a few chapters but so far it seems fast paced which is good. And I think the library has all of it which is also good for Cassi's budget.

I will not judge based on the first one which so far seems fine.

message 9086: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha, I didn't even realize I capitalized judgement. Sometimes my finger just loves to click the shift key.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments lol. I have decided that I cannot carry this book to work though. Hate the cover! Don't want it seen at the Girl Scout office. I might have to start something on my Kindle as well.

message 9088: by Gwennie (last edited May 30, 2011 08:09AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Is that the cover you have?

I luckily got this cover, Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning , which is a pretty good one.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wendy F wrote: "Is that the cover you have?

Nope. It's this one: Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning and even though the important bits are covered, it's naked people. I don't take naked people around with me places. It's a library book so the jacket is taped to the book & hard to remove.

message 9090: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh yeah, I hate that. If it's so good I'll still take it with me but I try my darndest to keep the cover hidden, haha.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wendy F wrote: "Oh yeah, I hate that. If it's so good I'll still take it with me but I try my darndest to keep the cover hidden, haha."

There are occasionally children roaming around our office and I live in the Bible belt. So I just err on the side of caution. I have two good books on my Kindle so if needed I'll just start Beauty Queens.

message 9092: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That makes sense.

message 9093: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Mayer (ashleymayer) | 125 comments I finished Graveminder by Melissa Marr last night. The story was interesting but anticlimactic. Next up is Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent .

Daria (dariadeptula) Shelia wrote: "The only YA mermaid book I've read is The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan, which I loved."

Oh I did not love that book. It was okay, but I didn't really like it.

message 9095: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I hated it!

message 9096: by Sofie (new)

message 9098: by Shelia (new)

Shelia (strawberrypanic-ouran-furuba) Still listening to Bloody Jack Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack, #1) by L.A. Meyer on audiobook, I love it so far!

message 9099: by Traci (new)

Traci I'm almost 100 pages into Beauty Queens by Libba Bray and it's hilarious so far. It was an impulse buy and I'm really glad that I snatched it up!
