I just finished it, it's really good!
The first few chapters are a bit strange, but once it gets into it's stride I couldn't put it down!
It ends on the most nail-biting cliffhanger though, so make sure you have the second one handy! Mine's in the post... taking it's sweet time getting to me haha!

Yay! Yes the begining is quite weird, but the ending was crazy. Loved the 2nd and 3rd books even more.

Argh! I'm so excited... I swear every time someone knocks on my door I launch myself to see if it's the postman.
But alas, it's just some unsuspecting man wanting to read the meter and has to be faced with a rabid fan girl!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I second what Heidi said. The first was good, but the second and third were amazing.

Sincerely,
Gwendy (formerly known as Wendy F)

Heidi Nice name change!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Whoa major name change. I will be so confused for awhiel WendyF/Gwendy

message 8908: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I was afraid that people would, but I got tired of being Wendy + Initial.

My sister-in-law is a Wendy too, and on presents and gifts and stockings over there I'm Gwendy (real name is Gwendolyne), so I figured it works too and its unique.

I read Halo pretty fast, but I still thought it was too long and too slow.

Gina Rose (ginarosereads) Just finished Thirteen Reasons Why (blahhhh, definitely not recommending it to anyone!) and can't decide whether to start On the Jellicoe Road or If I Stay

Any input?

THANK YOU.
I was going to have to make a new shelf of "did not finish" because that book killed me. So dry, slow-moving, etc.

Jellicoe!! :)

Oh and Tish - sooo glad you are liking Juliet Marillier :) I also got her name from this group and have devoured her books.

message 8921: by Rebecca (last edited May 24, 2011 05:14PM) (new)

Rebecca (bexlibris) Re-Starting Across The Universe (I had about 3 books going at once so I had to stop). I just got a few books in the mail (and I have been on a few book trips this past week) I got Zombies vs. Unicorns by Holly Black and Going Bovine by Libba Bray So I am going to start those after I finish.

Any Ideas on these books?

Did you not like Thirteen Reasons Why? I liked it, but I can understand why people wouldn't. It was really depressing, and a little melodramatic.

If I Stay, however, was really good.

I loved both Jellicoe Road and If I Stay. I would vote to read Jellicoe Road first though, it is one of my favorite books.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments JELLICOE ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THough I haven't read the other book. But if there is ever a ________ book versus Jellicoe Road question Jellicoe Road will win. It might be my top favorite book ever. (Its at least my top favorite right now)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I like the "Wendy Darling" name.

Wendy F/Gwendy I really don't think I'll be that confused now that you made the announcement. For some reason it helps my brain that F & G are next to each other in the alphabet, but that might just be me.

I disliked Thirteen Reasons Why as well. I felt no sympathy for the girl who killed herself and found her unbelievable so I quit midway through. I vote you read Jellicoe Road.

It wasn't really boring, it was just slow, and I overall didn't like it.

message 8932: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Okay, I'm dumping 13 Reasons Why in favor of Jellicoe Road since you all seem to dislike/like them so much. Both on my bedside table...and I'm a MM virgin. (I know, I know!)

Finished Feed, which was amazing, and just started reading

Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson The Tea Rose (The Tea Rose, #1) by Jennifer Donnelly .

Cambria, I vote "no" on Halo. But a lot of people seem to like it.

It's confusing but its told & first person & the MC is quite confused. Its odd but it works so well. Once you understand it's a magical moment.

Okay, that makes me no less confused than before...but it is at least reassuring. :)

Carmel, I keep hearing about MM here on GoodReads, so I have both Jellicoe Road and Saving Francesca waiting to be read. How cool that you're going that the reading! Could you please poke Cassandra Clare and make her give me a copy of Clockwork Prince now?

And Catherine--Carpe Corpus was one of my favorite Morganville books. If only because there's some nice Shane action in it.

message 8941: by Angela (new)

Angela (angelasharp) | 4 comments I am new to this group, just joined but wanted to
share. I love YA, cant get enough of it. I just finished reading The Gathering by Kelly Armstrong. If you've read her before you know she tells a great paranormal YA. It's suspenseful and deffinately keeps your interest. It's fairly fast paced and you know there is something going on under the surface that you just haven't found out yet, which keeps you trying to guess what. Also, if you enjoy dystopian YA, Divergent by Roth is absolutley awsome. To me, it's in the league of The Hunger Games. As soon as I finished reading it, I couldn't wait for more.

message 8942: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Welcome, Angela! You've found the right place. :)

I liked Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series, but I haven't gotten around to The Gathering yet. I'm glad to hear it's good. Lots of good buzz on Divergent, too!

message 8943: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (bookishevents) @Cambria, you know I still haven't finished Betrayed (House of Night, #2) by P.C. Cast it was starting to get better. I was a little past the decorating for the ceremony scene when I had to stop reading because of getting sick from not sleeping. My fiancée works swing shift and no matter what I do since I used to do the same my sleep schedule switches with him except when he goes from 11-7 to 7-3. I have 4 days to get used to the switch and regardless it's a nightmare to get back to sleeping at night and occasionally not sleeping in order to try to force my body to sleep at night again makes me sick. And the only way to stop the being sick is to go to sleep. Which then leaves me awake at 2am and unable to turn on the light and find my ipod to read because he's still asleep in here. If I wake him when he's got to go back to work today I'll feel guilty so I'm amusing myself online while I wait for Ed to get up so I can find my ipod and read. I will finish that book and probably one other one today. I can't do laundry because the replacement part for the dryer won't be here 'til this afternoon and won't get fixed until Ed gets home from work. The kids have school today and my mom's going to be gone to an appointment all day. So when I can turn on the light and find my ipod I should have the day to myself to get a couple books done. It's just waiting for Ed to get up so I can do that. I have to add a couple covers today for books I have that have been irritating me on here for not having covers. And I want to list a few books to trade out but none of that should take too long and I should get myself right back on reading schedule no problem in the time I have available to read.

That's scary! We had a tornado warning here and I was kind of scared. To keep the story short, we have a tornado warning system that includes speakers. I was the first time we have heard the guy saying, "A tornado watch (warning?) has been issued. Please seek shelter...". It went away before it reached town but wow.

Tornadoes are the one and only weather related system that I am scared of. We had one that came within 2 blocks of our house a month or so ago - something virtually unheard of in my neck of the woods (Tampa, FL) So glad everyone is okay...
