Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
I just finished
(every bit as good as all the reviews claim) and started
. I didn't remember it being this laugh-out-loud funny--Anne cracks me up with her over-the-top melodrama.
Tish wrote: "I just finished

Sherry Mia is annoying, but she is only 14 so you have to remember that. She does grow up and mature as the series goes along. I consider Meg Cabot's books as my guilty pleasure books.
Wendy wrote: "*sigh* FINE. Cassi may have Hex Hall boy, Cambria may have Tucker, and I will keep the dashing, tormented Will Herondale in Victorian London. But I think we should just keep them all together som..."
Oooooh. Love this. Although, can we make it a private Island. With a sign that says "what happens on island, stays on island." lol.
Oh, and we must bring along Damon from Vampire Diaries.

I just started
. It has been on my 'reading now' list for like two weeks but I just started it today.
Cambria wrote: "Oh and who is this Will Herondale In Victorian London????"I will tell you, as long as you keep hands off the merchandise!! Hee hee.
It's Will from The Infernal Devices series, which is the prequel trilogy to Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments. Have you read those? He is Jace Wayland's ancestor, though we don't know exactly how yet.
Well, you surrendered Tucker, so you can have this one. hahahaugh, no. I am so behind on that reading. I read the first City of Bones(a few years ago when it was new) and I didn't really like it. I know *wince* but I keep hearing such great things so I am going to give it another try but I haven't picked them up yet. I have heard that both series of Clare's are really great.

You know, I liked TMI but I was never a huge fan either...but I absolutely LOVE Infernal Devices. I like Victorian England anyway, but I also thought the characters were more mature. (And I like Will better than Jace, Tessa better than Clary, Jem better than Simon, etc.) I read COFA with more interest after Clockwork Angel, but ID is definitely my favorite of the two series.
I have to read ID before I read CoFA.They're not my favorite, but I will say that her writing got better with every book.
I was disappointed in the plagiarism scandal, but I still want to keep reading them.
I also don't mind Jace (way better then Edward). He's just not topping any list of mine.
Wendy wrote: "Cambria wrote: "Well, you surrendered Tucker, so you can have this one. hahahaugh, no. I am so behind on that reading. I read the first City of Bones(a few years ago when it was new) and I didn't..."
So do i have to read COB series in order to read Internal devices? Maybe I should just skip ahead to that series....but I know the two series are connected....

What plagarism scandal?
Heidi (the original) wrote: "It is Jace Jace Jace everywhere on here! I couldn't hold it in anymore!"LOL. too funny.
Cambria wrote: "Oh! I so want to read The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group!!! Your the first person I have seen mention it...lol. Please tell me how it is when you finish!!! "I put it away for now. The main character is 13 and the book seems to be pushing for the early tween boy age group. The author has another book out:
that someone suggested to read first before the Werewolf Rescue Group, so I think I may return it and come back after I read the vamp story. (If you've read
that's kind of the feel I was getting on this book.) I have had such crap luck on books recently. Argh.
Heidi (the original) wrote: "He seems like an emo boy to me. Give me a man (like your Jamie) :)"Oh, nobody compares to Jamie. Jace is but a mere shadow when Jamie is in the equation. I'll take a man with a Broadsword over a Teen with a stick any ole day.

Back when she was a fanfic writer she was accused of stealing whole scenes from other authors books. It was posted in a thread in this group somewhere. You could probably do a search on plagiarism and it would pull up. The evidence was pretty damning.
Some even say she still does it on a smaller scale by stealing whole ideas for her MI series from things created by JK Rowling or Joss Whedon (Buffy).
Catie wrote: "Haha, it does my heart good to hear you call Jamie a real man, Heidi."Hahaha. Well just think about it. Which one would you like to warm up your bed at night? Not some little boy!
Heidi (the original) wrote: "Sherry Mia is annoying, but she is only 14 so you have to remember that. She does grow up and mature as the series goes along. Amanda wrote: "Cambria wrote: "Oh! I so want to read The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group!!! Your the first person I have seen mention it...lol. Please tell me how it is when you finish!!! "I put it away for now...."
Ahh, that stinks. I thought that book looked really good too. Maybe I will still give it a try but I will read my other ones first.
Is there a certain order I should read the Cassandra Clare books (besides series order obviously)? I've read City of Bones and have Clockwork Prince on my hold list at the library.
If it's possible, Read the first 3 of Mortal Instruments, then Clockwork Angel, then City of Fallen Angels. That's the order the author wrote the books in.(Wendy -darling- not F :p, I like Will but think I'm starting to prefer Jem)
Wendy F wrote: "Some even say she still does it on a smaller scale by stealing whole ideas for her MI series from things created by JK Rowling or Joss Whedon (Buffy)..."Night Huntress. Bones reminds me too much of Spike sometimes. Still a guilty pleasure though, but there's definitely some HUGE similarities.
Stacia *two berries and a honeypot wrote: "(Wendy -darling- not F :p, I like Will but think I'm starting to prefer Jem)"Same here, Stacia - mostly influenced by the teasers from Clockwork Prince, I think :)
I think that's what stops me from liking him as much as others. He just feels way to similar to Spike (whom I loooove). There are times he makes me grin and think he's hot, though.
Anyone read anything really really good lately? I seriously went through 5 books which I couldn't even get into, I need something GOOOOODDDDD!!!!!!
= went back to library after first chapter. Definately not my type of book.
= went back to library after first couple of pages. I really dislike anything historical (although some might argure the book is not historical) but it wasn't to my liking either.
= went back to library, too young for my taste...
= went back to library. The book wasn't bad, i just have no interest in greek gods. At all. Help.
You can check out my favorites shelf or my totally loved one. Good books there, even though hardly anyone ever listens to my suggestions!
Gah...finnikin of the Rock keeps coming up...I love Melina but HATE anyhting remotely historical. Is it really that good?
Catie wrote: "Hey Amanda - I noticed that you rated
five stars; doesn't Jenny Downham have a new one out? Have you read that yet?"My library doesn't have it, and it's not even on order yet.....Bah. I've already spent my book allowance (laugh if you must) this month so I was searching for a copy to loan with no such luck. It looks good though.
Amanda wrote: "Gah...finnikin of the Rock keeps coming up...I love Melina but HATE anyhting remotely historical. Is it really that good?"
Finnikin is excellent. From your HUGE tbr list I would also recommend
,
, or
. I only got through the first 100 of your tbr list though!

Oh I just started
on audiobook (after I finished the incomparable
)Its hard to follow a Jacky audiobook but I'm really not sure what I think of the narrator. As odd as this sounds, I don't think I like the rhythm of her voice. Her pauses seem odd & too frequent. I'm giving it a chance but I really don't know. Maybe a day away from Jacky (started new book on same car ride) will improve it.

Wow. I will look around and check it out. You are just full of cool info Wendy!

Hahaha. Well just think about it. Which one would you like to warm up your bed at night? Not some little boy!"
Just started Darkfever!! Im excited
Yeah.....I have a horribly loooong tbr list. I see something I like and add it, then I tell myself about once a week I'm going to back to start deleting, and the bigger my list gets the more daunting it seems. I've been ignoring it. @Hodo Darkfever!!! Yaaayyy!!
me too!
is good, despite the smutty cover. i can't read that in the carpool line at school! also started lost by jacqueline davies, well written but sad at the same time, at least so far.
Heidi (the original) wrote: "I listened to Darkfever on audio - even better!"I agree. I thought the Fever Series and Black Dagger Brotherhood series were really good on audio! There's just something sinister about sitting in my car in traffic and hearing the narrator describe some of those scenes. Yum!

I feel the same way! I'm getting my copy of What Happened to Goodbye tomorrow. I love Sarah Dessen! There have been a couple books that I didn't like as much as her others but I have enjoyed all of them.
