I wasn't fond of this one. It could have been a great book, but failed to really take me to a place where I cared about what happened to the characters.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Becca,

Where are you in Utah? Anywhere near where I'll be? Also any recs and things to check out while I'm in town. I went to the SLC library when I was there last time and was in heaven... accept it was really crowded. No corner to hide in.

message 5654: by Arphaxad (last edited Jan 21, 2011 03:12AM) (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments I finished The Help by Kathryn Stockett yesterday, and am now devouring Jealousy (Strange Angels, #3) by Lilith Saintcrow at an alarming rate. There's something about the books in this series - I seem to compulsively speed-read them!

Also continuing with Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson :)

message 5655: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) So all this talk about libraries and ones you can get online etc, made me decide to see if maybe some of the bigger cities in my own state had library cards I could get for maybe a fee or something since I don't live there...well the Kansas City (MO) Public Library is FREE to anyone who lives in MO, so I filled out for a card but they said it might take up to 3 weeks because they get a lot of request. FREE!!!! Doing a happy dance..they have a audio and ebook section that is downloadable!! :) :) Now its just waiting to get accepted. :(

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I just finished ARC of Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder, #2) by Kimberly Derting I was a little disappointed because it just didn't have what the first one did. :( But it was still okay. Now I am starting ARC of The Liar Society (The Liar Society, #1) by Lisa and Laura Roecker really been wanting to read this one so hope it don't disappoint.

I also finished Bloody Jack on audiobook, it was very good. Can't wait to get the next one.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling Zombies vs. Unicorns by Holly Black I Love Him to Pieces (My Boyfriend Is a Monster) by Evonne Tsang (last one an ARC via netgalley. Let me know if you want to know what I think of it. I will probably review it on YouTube.

Heidi Loving all these people reading Harry Potter!

Rowling is fighting the ebook thing a bit I believe. I don't know why! Her books (especially later) are HUGE and a lot of older children and adults would love the convenience of the whole series on Kindle. I know it is going to be tough for me when I get to the later books to read something so big in paper. I hate fumbling with holding large books open. My Kindle spoiled me that way. I too am reading though them for the first time this year. I am spreading them out though so I can put Kindle books in between. Give my hands a break LOL. Fortunately it is very easy to find Harry Potter in thrift stores if you don't already own them. That's where we found ours. We actually have 2
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets so my dad and I are reading at the same time!

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Cassi wrote: "Reading Lost Voices (Lost Voices, #1) by Sarah Porter on NetGalley because their kindle option has been broken for like a week! I can't deal with the adobe digital editions on my comp."

How are you liking that? I got approved for the galley too. I am trying to decide which one to read next. I also got a couple others.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Liz wrote: "I'm moving on from NEED by Carrie Jones to WISH by Alexandra Bullen. Wish by Alexandra Bullen

I have that on my Kindle... I think. It may have been a freebie for a while. How are you liking it?

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Heidi I wrote: "Loving all these people reading Harry Potter!"

I think it is a New Years Resolution thing. I decided I want to read/finish Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Narnia this year. Along with The Hunger Games and possibly The Lord of the Rings. I am such a bad nerd for not having read all of these already!

All the girls in my class talk about it and I want in too. But Im not going to read those huge books unless I can get them on my kindle!

I feel your pain. I decided to suck it up and like I said, spread them out. I am aiming for 1 per month. You could even do a chapter a day if you really wanted to. You would surely finish this year. I am disappointed too because my niece got a Kindle for Christmas. She is 11. It would be great for her.

Heidi Wow. I am always surprised at all the people who have not read the HP series *cough* Peep and Jaimie *cough* It is super strange they are not available as ebooks.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi I wrote: "Wow. I am always surprised at all the people who have not read the HP series *cough* Peep and Jaimie *cough* It is super strange they are not available as ebooks."

Is it bad to say I feel sorry for them? Honestly it was SO FUN the first time around with the theorizing, the fanfiction, the book parties. Honestly it's just sad to me that not everyone can experience the excitement and anticipation. (It helps that I look cute in a Ginny Weasley costume!)

Don't get me wrong--totally worth reading. But it was great (feels like she's talking about the good old days).

message 5672: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I didn't read HP for a long time and then I found out my employer (a older man) was reading them..lol I thought hmm if he is reading them I must check them out..by then the first two books were made into movies and I had watched one of the movies...I didn't go out and buy them though I just borrowed them from people who already had them..I liked them, but have still never bought them.

message 5675: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleymabus) I read up to book six in the HP series,I still need to get 5,6,and 7. I think I'm going to re-read them this year.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments wow... all these non-Potter people. I talked my best friend into reading them recently and she finished the entire series in under a month. I was quite proud. She was a skeptic, but she has been converted and you will too. Especially with the storylines starting in book #4/5. Don't get me wrong, the first three books are good, but the real story comes into play later on. But you need all that extra info from the beginning to get there.

message 5677: by Megan (new)

Megan (megg_reads) | 34 comments Well im almost done with the first, have been only reading a few chapters a day due to health reasons ive bedn sleeping alot, but I am loving it more than I had anticipated, cant wait to get deeper into the story.

I see how huge the later books are, we have them in hardback, and I must admit its a little discouraging! Hopefully by the time I get to those, there will be ebooks!

I agree with Cassi! In a way I feel sorry for people who haven't read HP yet, and missed out on all the excitement of waiting for the next book and theorizing about the storylines.

With that said, I'm excited for all of you that are just starting the series! I hope you love it as much as we do.

Book 4 was WAY better than the movie. I liked that one as well - JK has quite the imagination to make up that whole tournament.

Hahaha! I live in Salt Lake actually and for several years of my life lived in Provo. SLC library is incredible. I just love the architecture of the building, but yes, it is extremely busy and crowded. I usually go to my little library down the street and request books from the big place.

If you're eating out, Cafe Rio is out favorite around here, deliciousness without a huge pricetag. Since I know your the outdoorsy type, there is some excellent skiing and boarding right now at any of the resorts. The mountains have been dumped on lately. If you haven't been to Temple Square, that's worth a trip. Really beautiful. If you like dinosaurs (which we do) Thanksgiving Point Dino museum is incredibly fun. I don't know what's playing at Abravanel Hall right now, but it's always incredible. The building itself is worth a visit. Gardner Village is one of my favorite places to shop. Historical sites galore around here. There's tons more to do!

Jill | 68 comments Just finished Darkfever and I absolutely loved it. All of you were right. I can't believe Bloodfever isn't here yet! It's on the way from BN.com (I ordered a couple days ago). I wish I would have bought it at the store because I can't wait to start it. I just ordered books 3 and 4 so they will be here in time. So, while I wait, I am reading I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. Very cute so far.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments So I finished Lost Voices (Lost Voices, #1) by Sarah Porter which did not enthuse me that much (took forever to even attempt to develop a plot!).

Not sure what to read next. Debating buying Across the Universe by Beth Revis or Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta for my Kindle. But then you all seem obsessed with this Fever series. Almost downloaded earlier, but well I don't normally read books that are very sexual (or sexual at all).

You know how sometimes after reading a "bleh" book you need a WOW book to get you back on track.

message 5688: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleymabus) I'm going to be started The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell , The Thirteenth Chime (Sense of Truth, #1) by Emma Michaels , and re-reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling

message 5689: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen (wherever you are) I think Karen Marie Moning owes you some royalty money or something for getting all of us here to read the Fever series.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I got it from Netgalley too....so thankfully free as well. The first chapter builds tension wonderfully then nothing happens much for a long while.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Heidi I wrote: "Shannen (wherever you are) I think Karen Marie Moning owes you some royalty money or something for getting all of us here to read the Fever series."

Hahaha. One of my other groups is probably sick of me because it's all I've talked about for weeks.

I agree though with Shannen getting money. It's too bad you can't earn money through recommendation. That would be fun.

message 5693: by Book Elf (new)

Book Elf (BookElf) | 12 comments I loved the movies of Harry Potter, but when I read the books of Harry Potter just recently, I loved the books and lesser affection for the movies!

I so love Harry Potter Series!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Becca wrote: "Hahaha! I live in Salt Lake actually and for several years of my life lived in Provo. Ha... last time I was in town I told my friends to take me someplace "I could only go in SLC", and they took me to Cafe Rio. We grabbed some enchilada style burritos and headed back to his apartment to watch The Princess Bride. Their horchata is Yum... and my friend is Mexican so he would know.

Also during my last visit we went to a concert at In the Venue of my favorite band of earth!! He took me to the library as previously stated because he knows how much I love them (but yes, WAY TO CROWDED), and we spent a night out at The Gateway just meandering and listening to the live music. Also while he was busy working we got discount tickets to The Lagoon so I took his cousin! So fun! Wicked is the greatest roller coaster I've been on in a while. (Remember this was August).

I missed doing the whole Temple Square thing because we just ran out of time. My friend is LDS and I'm not, so it was important to him (and me) that we do that together. I tend to ask a lot of silly questions... He's used to it, but I think I would throw some of the sister missionaries for a loop. But with his work schedule we just couldn't fit it in. I do want to do it though. We drove by it many times. It's beautiful. So is the capital building. It's like a mini White House.

So... if I get into grad school in Provo, do you feel like it's a place I could live for 3 years? It's just so, idk... blah. Then again I'll have my nose buried in books the whole time anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I decided to buy Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta for my Kindle. I know not to expect Jellicoe Road and its been quite awhile since I've read a Melina Marchetta book so I think its time.

(Piper's Son needs to come out in the US now please!)
