First Lines
My mother used to tell me about the ocean. She said there was a place where there was nothing but water as far as you could see and that it was always moving, rushing toward you and then away.I just started The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins:When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold.
I feel like I am the last person reading this book.
He began his new life standing up, surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air.The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
I am really intrigued by this book. I am only 20% into it right now as my reading time has been slim lately but I snatch it up whenever I get a chance.
It's been sixty-four years since the president and the Consortium identified love as a disease, and forty-three since the scientists perfected a cure.
The first time, November 6 to be exact, I wake up at two a.m. with a tingling in my head like tiny fireflies dancing behind my eyes.

"man, i can't wait to read this book! unfortunately, i went to the bookstore the day before it was released, so i had to settle for unearthly and a few others from my tbr pile for now. wah-wah-waaaaah. :P
Awww...lame! I'm liking is so far! Dang I really want to read Unearthly but it's not available for the Nook yet. I'm trying to be patient!
@Amy. We need to make sure we are requesting it on the website. Maybe that will help. I try to request books each day.
Me too! I'll try it from multiple computers now! Haha I think the publishers are ignoring us. You know what's weird...Delirium is the same publisher and that's available on Nook. These publishers are driving me loco!
I don't get it. Wouldn't you think they would want the sales? Other than my hardcover finch reference books, I only buy Nookbooks. That's it.
I'm getting to that point too. I'm only buying hardcover copies of books I already have. All the rest are Nookbooks. That's why it's so hard not to buy Unearthly. I waaaaant it so bad! I might give in because the hardcover copy is so pretty! Publishers...making you spend more on hardcover copies since 2010.
I splurge once in awhile. If its something you really, really want...I say go for it! You can then find a bargain for your next book to make up for it.
"How did it happen this time?"
Henry tensed at the sound of her voice, and he tore his eyes away from the lifeless body on the bed long enough to look at her.
bum, bum, bum...already starting with dead bodies haha :) This is gonna be a good one!
The story goes that even after the Return they tried to keep the roller coasters going. They said it reminded them of the before time. The Dead-Tossed Waves
I've got this:The first boy disappeared on the day of his birth, on a night when the pale yellow moon that ruled the sky turned red and bathed the heavens in the ghastly color of blood, the same night the Kingdom of Cokyri abruptly ceased its merciless attack.
I'm reading Legacy.
"If he touches her, I swear I'm going to rip out his guts with my bare hands and send them to his next of kin for lunch."
Nice...haha :) That one has been added to my wishlist!
In between books right now -- last one starts "Nailer clambered through a service duct, tugging at copper wire and yanking it free."Of course, you guessed it, Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. Who else would name their MC "Nailer"?
You can take my life, but you'll never break me. So bring me your worst...And I will definitely give you mine.No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Bethany wrote: "Going on a date with a bodyguard hanging over your shoulder sucks.Shadowspell by Jenna Black"
I freaking LOVE that series!!!
Well the book I'm reading right now is
so the first line is pretty boring...During Pat Tillman's stint in the army he intermittently kept a diary...blah. But the last book I read was
Violet Ambrose wandered away from the safety of her father as she listened to the harmony of sounds weaving delicately around her.
Yep, the Body Finder totally starts off creepy!
Hmmm...I just finished The Dark and Hollow Places and I totally forgot to post the first lines! Here they are:
The city used to be something once. I've seen pictures of the way it gleamed - sun so bright off windows it could burn your eyes.

Just finished Beastly
after seeing the movie. Great voice first half (when Kyle's a jerk), boring last half (when Adrian turns emo). Anyway, first line:Mr. Anderson: Welcome to the first meeting of the Unexpected Changes chat group.
"Schlaak!" from
Don't you just love a good sound effect as the first line? That's one that I am currently reading, but the next books are ones that I have already read.
"Don't read The Book." from
"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." from
Bethany, haha that one is just creepy! Makes me want to read it!
Paula, I liked Beastly too! I read the book just to watch the movie, but I haven't gone to see the movie yet. I will probably end up waiting till it comes out on video lol.
Julie, sound effects are a world of good! Your quote from The Book seems kinda like reverse psychology! Since it's telling you not to read it, you want to read it more!

I just started reading
"Eilonwy of the red-gold hair, the Princess Eilonwy Daughter of Angharad, Daughter of Regat of the Royal House of Llyr, was leaving Caer Dallben. Dallben himself had so ordered it; and though Taran's heart was suddenly and strangely heavy, he knew there was no gainsaying the old enchanter's words."

Amy & Jeannette- I haven't really started it yet. I just read the first line and started laughing so I had to put it on here. The synopsis for the book is intriquing tho. I'll definitely let you know how it is.
Our story opens where countless stories have ended in the last twenty-six years: with an idiot-in this case, my brother Shaun-deciding it would be a good idea to go out and poke a zombie with a stick to see what happens. From
Yes, I finally got it. I can't believe no one put this on here yet. I found it pretty funny and can I say that I love that her brother's name is Shaun...in a zombie book. anybody else find that kinda ironic?
I don't get it! Like as in Shaun of the Dead? Or am I totally missing it?
I like the first line too, it's pretty funny! :)

From Threshold: Pandora's Box"All manner of power has its place in time, even time itself. May the words of my mouth place me in the silent places of the earth; may they speak of the sweet fragrance of the past. May they bow to the everlasting mystery of the appointed time."
The whole first page is pretty deep, but the first lines sets the tone :)
I'm trying not to read only YA and kid's books like I have been recently, so I pulled Gone With the Wind off my bookshelf."Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were."
Amy wrote: "I don't get it! Like as in Shaun of the Dead? Or am I totally missing it? I like the first line too, it's pretty funny! :)"
YES!! totally. It just made me laugh opening up a zombie book and the first character u run into is Shaun...I love that movie.
I saw that one a long time ago. I might need to watch it again!

It explores the idea of a society that is ultra-fouced on technology, kind of in the same vein as the Uglies trilogy and Extras, Little Brother, and Feed, just to name a few.
I probably won't like it then...lol. I read all the Uglies books, but it was tough. I didn't finish Little Brother or Feed :/

I have to share the first line of the book I'm reading right now haha...I don't know why I chuckled when I read it. Something must be wrong with me. Ok, here goes :)
Dark Goddess by Sarwat Chadda:
The Rottweiler's head lay in a bush, just off the snow-sprinkled path.
Seriously, that's what it says!
