UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments February’s Build Your Own Challenge - Duration: February 1-28, 2011.

The holidays are behind us and hopefully everyone enjoyed theirs! February is fast approaching and it’s time to begin thinking about our next challenge. As with all our Build Your Own Challenge challenges, it’s up to you to decide how you want it to go.

Are you in the mood to read about that little winged wonder known as Cupid? Go for it! ‘Tis the month, after all.

Or perhaps you want to read books about American Presidents, in celebration of President’s Day!

Or, maybe you want to read about that furry little weather announcer, the groundhog of Groundhog Day fame. Chinese New Year, Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday... Or maybe you don’t want a theme at all and would rather pick a certain number of books to read… the possibilities are endless, and they’re yours!

The only restriction to this challenge is that you can’t begin reading before February 1st.

Please post your status updates like this: 2/12 or 3/5, etc. It makes it much easier for me to update and keep everything straight.

Here's a link to help with February ideas:

I hope you’ll join us!

I know! I read the first preview chapter and it seems very sexy so far. Plus the cover is hot, so I can't wait to get it as well.

message 16: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm in too with 10 books. I'm totally against Valentine (have been since I started dating) but I have a lot of books that fit the theme so I may do that, at least for part of the challenge. :)

message 17: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments DG, I don't think of Valentine's Day as just being about dating/erotic love. I think of it as a celebration of love in general. I have a lousy dating life. Always have, but I still love the holiday.

message 18: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That's a good way to look at it, Danielle. The problem I have with Valentine's (and most Holidays in fact), it's that it is too commercial. People feel obligated to do this or that for their significant other whether they can afford it, are in the mood, etc. HAVING to do something on specific day when everybody else is doing the same is the antithesis of romance for me.

Happily my husband feels the same way so we don't have any issues there. :)

message 19: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I respect that. Personally, I think that it's kind of easy to get jaded about holidays because corporations are always going to manipulate them to make more money. I just go to my happy place and ignore all that. Without the holidays to look forward to, it would just be about the passage of day to day for me.

DG, maybe you could just read love stories/any romance of your choice if you wanted to fit the valentine theme.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm odd, I know, but I hate holidays like Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day... it seems like it makes it easier for people to put off showing their appreciation until the "designated" day arrives. I'd rather treat everyone special, every day.

Then again, it might be because my husband never does anything of his own accord, and regardless of the holiday asks me what I want him to buy me.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments **sigh**

I wondered why no one was signing up for this challenge.

I don't know about the rest of you, but Goodreads is really screwing up with email notifications. I'm going try to check more regularly and not rely on email notifications, but if you notice I'm missing for awhile, would someone drop me a note and let me know that there are posts needing attention.
