Tam | 1 comments Hi all, I am new to the group. I am re-reading Midwives by Chris Bohjalian as I didn't get my library books before the weekend. I have requested from the library The Winner by David Baldacci and Wildfire by Nelson DeMille. I have gotten hooked on these two authors lately but will have their books finished soon.

message 108: by Kathy (last edited Jan 31, 2011 09:13AM) (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Finally finished Les Misérables by Victor Hugo . Great book, but not an easy read for sure. Putting off starting The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (for my 3rd read), cause my son is reading other stuff and we're going to do it together. It's ok, it's not like I'm hurting for reading material. lol. I started:
Charles Manson Music, Mayhem, Murder by Tommy Udo

Patricia (pg4003) | 148 comments Sonya wrote: "i liked "east of eden"

Roots was very good, I'm glad I re-read it. Very long book, and some parts went on and on a little more than I liked. There was a lot of the dialect which I'm sure was typical of the time and sometimes I had to read twice to understand what it was saying. But it was a very captivating story, has a lot of history in it, and I'm sure it's a perfect example of how things were at the time. Heartbreaking at times, we humans haven't always behaved in a humane manner, but also heartwarming at times.

East of Eden is in my 5 top books of all time. Steinbeck was a master.

It is a tearjerker but a good one. One of my favorites books. The movie, "Charly," was well-done too.

message 142: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Crystal Singer - Anne McCaffrey
Erewhon - Samuel Butler

message 143: by David (new)

David "once he had accepted the end as desirable"

I won't MAKE you read East of Eden but if you find reading it desirable...

"he should forget it completely and concentrate solely on the means." Steinbeck-East of Eden.

I love re-reading my favorite books, it is almost similar to catching up with an old friend.

I'm going to add my agreement with this comment! I've been catching up with some "old friends" courtesy of the Kindle and really enjoying it. What I find truly interesting is being reintroduced to details that I'd forgotten while remembering the main plot.

message 150: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I just started Magyk by Angie Sage on my kindle. I really wanted to read something else that wasn't a paranormal type of book.
