Literally Jen (vampsita) | 18 comments I am really liking it so far. I think that Tristan's "voice" is very authentic it's hard writing for the opposite of your sex, but I think she does it well!). He's very sweet, but with just the right amount of bad boy thrown in there.

Is there anything specific that has been turning you off from reading it? Maybe that would help me better explain the book to you.

message 302: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I've gotta get my hands on Tangled Tides and The Vicious Deep before I do anything, I swear.

But right now, I'm reading Cinder and it is frakking awesome.

Literally Jen (vampsita) | 18 comments If you use NetGalley, The Vicious Deep is on there right now.

No, but I've seen them on Goodreads before. Are they any good? :)

message 305: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) | 18 comments I read them years and years ago, probably when they were first published, and I remember really liking them.

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 181 comments MerFans,

Amazon has announced the release of Tracy Deebs next installment in the Tempest series. Naturally, I pre-ordered for my Kindle. :-) The date is June 5th.

That's one disadvantage a Kindle does not have! ;-)

Dana (piyo) | 57 comments Goodness, I feel like I haven't been around here in ages! I picked up a copy and am just started reading The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Córdova . And I gotta say, I do really like it. I like the fact that the main character is a guy. Don't get me wrong, I love mermaids, but I feel like mermen need some representation too.

Oh, and because I see the mention of both Remembering the Titanic by Diane Hoh and Titanic The Long Night by Diane Hoh ...I read those both when they first came out and loved them. Actually, I still have the two books and really have been meaning to give them a reread.

Mary (elmabree) | 11 comments Finshed: The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Córdova and Of Poseidon by Anna Banks and Legacy Lost (Of Poseidon #0.5) by Anna Banks Now reading: Breathless by Cole Gibsen and Sea Change by Aimee Friedman

message 310: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Sea Change is pretty decent. A little atmospheric romance.

I'm currently reading Tangled Tides and it's pretty good :)

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 181 comments Guitar Chick wrote: "Sea Change is pretty decent. A little atmospheric romance.

Tangled Tides didn't do too much for me. It seemed that author had found a way to combine vampires & mermaids in one story. To each, their own.

message 312: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) | 18 comments That doesn't sound very appealing to me: vampires + mermaids. :-( I DL'd it on the free day, so eventually I'll get to it, but I am less excited now. (Sorry Karen, if you're lurking. I promise to give it a fair shot anyway!)

message 313: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah, I'm not really digging all the bloodsucking and pseudo drugs, but some of the aspects are pretty cool.

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 181 comments I just finished Nightworld by Maureen Noel (the review will be up in the next day or so) and am ready to start When, At Last, He Found Me (Memoir of a Mermaid, #1) by Adrianna Stepiano . I'm trying to clear the decks for Evergreen (Mer Tales, #2) by Brenda Pandos at the end of this month.

message 315: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I'm currently reading Lies Beneath and am quite enjoying it :)

message 316: by Howard (new)

Howard Parsons (howardparsons) | 181 comments I can tell that the buzz for Evergreen (Mer Tales, #2) by Brenda Pandos is building. I have copies of my 4 & 5 star reviews on my blog and I've started getting a lot of hits w/ Everblue in the search phrase.

Sounds like a nice bit of fluff for summer reading. Keep us apprised.

Olivia,
Actually, that was done for me by Goodreads. I clicked on "reply" and when the quoted material popped up, so did the buff dude with the low-slung jeans. I'm not particularly fond of that cover which appears to be from a totally different book.
I'm going to edit the reply to see if I can fix things.

Well, if that was too silly for you, be sure to give the Seaborne trilogy by Catherine Irons a miss. The 1st book was OK & you really felt for the heroine but the 2nd book was all over the map. I'm scared to think what the 3rd book - due out this summer - will be like. The only reason I'm going to read it is because I've read the 1st 2. No. 3, however, will be pretty far down on my list.

message 324: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I just finished Fever Crumb and it was amazing. Five stars.

I'm just starting Legend and I'm also really impressed with this one.

I really liked Tangled Tides. I thought some pieces of it could have been cut out for story quality, but still a good read. :)

Naomi (moontree) | 12 comments I'm reading Wrecked by Anna Davies and am 66% through with it, and I think I'm putting it down. So boring. Cardboard characters, too many adjectives, etc. I want to finish it because I've been so looking forward to reading this one, and it's a mermaid book for goodness sake, but it's so painful...

message 327: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (moontree) | 12 comments I did just get The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Córdova the other day, so I'm hoping I enjoy it. I was super excited for the year of the mermaid novel, and so far I have yet to fall in love with one of them. :(

I loathed Wrecked. It's like some kind of knock off of Sea Change and it's just not very good at all.

The Vicious Deep however, is on my favorite merbooks of all time list.

Really? Because I ADORE mermaids. I've even written a novel with mermaid-type creatures that I'm trying to get published. So I was super excited to see this new trend, but so far all the mermaid books I've read were either good, okay, or bad. Nothing amazing. And of the good books, only one made that list!

message 330: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (moontree) | 12 comments Oh, and speaking of me trying to get published, I was on TOR's publishing site and saw a book coming out this year with merpeople in it. It's the second in a series though. It's River Road (Sentinels of New Orleans, #2) by Suzanne Johnson

message 331: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I'll take a look at it :) thanks for the tip. And good luck with the publishing! If you need any editing help, I'd be glad to take a look.

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I bought Waking Storms by Sarah Porter today at Barnes & Noble, and I can't wait to start it. The cover is even more beautiful in person! Plus the whole concept of a "mermaid versus human war" that the summary mentions has me intrigued.

message 333: by Dana (new)

Dana (piyo) | 57 comments I've read all three of Judi Fennell Tritone series and they were alright. Could they have been better? Yes. But for what they were, I didn't mind them too much.

The Vicious Deep and Tangled Tides are the two most recent mer reads for me. Out of the two, I have to say I enjoyed The Vicious Deep better. And I think the biggest draw for me was the fact that the main character was a merman. I love mermaids, but I feel we never get too many male leads unless they are selkies (which is cool, too, but mermen are just as neat). Tangled Tides was interesting, but I'm not sure if it was for me. I'm sure I'll pick up the sequel(s), but I won't be rushing out to get them.

Next up on my To Read Mer List is:
Ripple Lost Voices Of Poseidon. So far it looks like quite a few of you have already read or are reading those three, so I'm hoping to enjoy them. :)

message 334: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (moontree) | 12 comments I liked Ripple. It's a different spin on the mermaid thing, and I liked that it took place in the Pacific Northwest. :)

Lost Voices was okay. I didn't much enjoy it because it just seemed to drag.

Of Poseidon's probably next on my to-read list. I started it weeks ago, but for some reason I never got around to it, probably because I got another book in the mail and started reading that one and just forgot to go back to Of Poseidon.

message 336: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I was lucky enough to read a copy Waking Storms a few months ago, and if you only sort of liked Lost Voices, Waking Storms is going to blow you away. It's better in every way.

message 337: by Dana (new)

Dana (piyo) | 57 comments Just finished Of Poseidon (Of Poseidon, #1) by Anna Banks and didn't think it was half bad. Kinda saw the ending coming, so I'm curious to see how book two is.

I need to finish these. I got copies from the author for review. And also, I tried to get you permission to write on the blog, Howard. Blogger has changed their layout, so I'm not sure how to add a new blog author. But I'll find out how. I know there's a way on there somewhere... :)

The Syrenka series was eh to me. I'm not the biggest romance reader, so they were a bit too fluffy to me. But not bad by any means. I just may not have been the reader to read them.

The series I'm (supposedly) working on is going to be something of a romance fantasy so I've been reading any thing in that genre that features our favourite creatures.

Emm,
You're in the review queue. Unfortunately, there's 3 other books ahead of you. I will say, however, that your book is a very clean read. (No typos, grammatical errors, misused words, etc.)

oliviasbooks | 261 comments I plan to finish off the to-be-read mermaid titles on my shelf in October: Florence by Ciye Cho , Tangled Tides (The Sea Monster Memoirs, #1) by Karen Amanda Hooper and When, At Last, He Found Me (Memoir of a Mermaid, #1) by Adrianna Stepiano ... but I don't think I will be in the mood for Black Waters (The Songstress Trilogy #1) by Maija Barnett .

message 348: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah, Black Waters looks to be pretty different from the others. Tell me how Florence is, it reminds of Florence + The Machine when I see the cover so I'm interested.
