Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah, my parents would kill me if they knew I was reading bodice rippers.

message 52: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Hehe, I've never actually read a bodice ripper, but the closest I've come to is the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the Dark Tides series. But Sookie's one of the bests, and they're not as raunchy as the Anita Blake books have become.

message 53: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) The raunchiest book I've read is The Girl With the Dragon, which was slightly disturbing

message 54: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Lol, I thought about reading those, just because everyone else was reading them, but they didn't seem like something I'd want to read, once I looked into them.

message 55: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Knight (ashleyknight) | 98 comments Mermaidfreak89 - try reading FINS - Garrett & Guitarchick have both read & enjoyed it. :-)

oliviasbooks | 261 comments Yes, yes, the cover problem. I do want to try In Over Her Head (Tritone Trilogy, #1) by Judi Fennell , but then I'd really have to rip of the cover before boarding my train. It is supposed to be Disney's Little Mermaid with humor, sex and reversed roles: Merman + Princess (who swappes her legs for a tail I think)

The densest overload of explicit sex scenes I experienced in Judith Krantz novels so far. They are 70s and 80s stuff and absolut guilty pleasure fun. The few historical bodice rippers I've tried were rather ridiculous. Although I have to admit the "Deadly" series by Brenda Joyce did keep me entertained.

The first was really really really good, it's just got some weird stuff in there.

message 58: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I just got this Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright for an Easter present, and I'm so excited! Loved the movie!

Courtney (crice26) Garrett wrote: "I just got this Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright for an Easter present, and I'm so excited! Loved the movie!"

I saw that movie and it was sooo good, I think I'm going to read it too, because if the movie was good, the book must be AMAZING!

message 60: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Just finished Lost Voices (Lost Voices, #1) by Sarah Porter . Dark, magical, and Sarah Porter's style of writing is so poetic and beautiful. Loved it!

message 61: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) It came out? TO THE BOOKSTORE!

message 62: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) No, not yet, but there's a website where you can get Advanced Galleys and read them online called Netgalley.com. That's where I read mine!

Emily (emilimcg) | 251 comments Mod
Yay! If you loved Lost Voices I probably will too. Excited :D And I might want to see Red Riding Hood now...

message 64: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Red Riding Hood was awesome! And the werewolf looked amazing. It looked fierce, not like some overgrown mutt. :D

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading Les Miserables, written by Victor Hugo....Classic French Literature....all 1,463 pages....and guess what! I'm on 64! Hahaha!!!! But, Jean ValJean is amazing!!!!!! *Sigh*

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

message 66: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Ooh, I had to read that for English 10 last year! Are you reading the edited version with about 600 pages or the version with 1000+ pages? Cuz if you're reading the original long version, I admire you greatly, because there's no way I could have focused that long on one book, lol! :D
But it really is a great book, and it's one novel everyone should read at least once. :)

message 67: by Zoraida (new)

Zoraida | 77 comments Am reading We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han <3

The 1,463 page unabridged version....and i'm in 7th grade...I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! ALREADY ON PAGE 160......

message 69: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Alright, I just ordered two Scott Pilgrim novels, Home to the Sea (Chester Aaron) Selkie Girl and The Girl Who Played With Fire. So excited :)

message 70: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Hey, that's awesome! I want to get Tempest Rising when it comes out, plus I have a bunch of Buffy novels in my shopping cart, just waiting to be bought. Sigh...I need a job...

message 71: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I have one. Cleaning the bathroom doesn't pay very well....

message 72: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Lol! Well, it appears this summer I'm going to be saying a million times, "Would you like fries with that?"

message 73: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) NOOOOOO! DON'T LET IT SUCK YOUR SOUL! I know so many people who want to kill themselves from stressful jobs in food service. Keep a lookout for interesting people to write into a book. Hey, youl already know one quirk: What they order.

message 74: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I know! But my parents are making me. Sigh...it's about time I get one anyway. All those Buffy novels I want but can't afford...
Huh, I never thought about looking at people and writing them into stories. But my mind's constantly coming up with new stories anyway, so that might just work! I just hope I don't get a really awesome idea at work and have no way of writing it down.

message 75: by Randi (last edited May 08, 2011 01:04PM) (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) J.K. Rowling wrote part of Harry Potter and the Sorcers Stone on napkins in a little cafe'.

message 76: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Reading Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead for the third time! Definitely my favorite series, and my favorite vampire book! Highly recommend it!

message 77: by Emily, Merfreak & Tribute (new)

Emily (emilimcg) | 251 comments Mod
I've been getting so many recommendations for that series but...vampires...I don't know...

message 78: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I know, but you'll forget they're vampires. There's not that much blood-drinking or fangs and no burning in the sun. And most of the book has dhampirs in it instead. You should try it, it surpasses every other vampire book in the genre. And get this! The love interests actually take time to fall in love, rather than fall hopelessly in love like other vamp books. *ahem* twilight *ahem*

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha...I agree on so many levels....

message 80: by Emily, Merfreak & Tribute (new)

Emily (emilimcg) | 251 comments Mod
guess I'll try it, reserved it at the library :)

message 81: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Sounds cool. I've heard good things about the book, and nothing could be worse than Twilight.

message 82: by Garrett (last edited May 09, 2011 06:19PM) (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I think this is definitely the best of the YA books. It's not mushy-gushy, the main love interest isn't a creepy stalker, and there's a lot of action and adventure. It's a must-read. :D
I just finished reading it for the third time!

message 83: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Currently reading Siren's Surrender (Dark Tides, #2) by Devyn Quinn , and it is awesome! I started it before, but I never really got into it, but that's because I'd just read the first book, and usually i can't reading series books back to back. i need some variety in between. But now that I've revisited this world, I can't get my nose out of this freakin' book! It's amazing! I mean, evil mermaid soldiers recruited by an even nastier queen, all of them equipped with spears and death ray guns? Sign me up!

message 84: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) You had me at death ray guns *swoons over awesomeness* I'm having an action phase. The Girl Who played With Fire is (no pun intended) reallt starting to heat up.

message 85: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I'm currently reading Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs and it is so FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! You guys have to read this one! It's one of the best merbooks! It's definitely worth reading!

What! I didn't realize it was out already! *must buy* I'm getting an ereader in a few weeks though and I'm forcing myself to not buy books until I get one, butwaiting is killing me!
(btw, anyone know whether Kindle or nook is better?)

message 87: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Yep, I was so excited when it came out! The cover is even MORE beautiul when you see it for real.

I think they're pretty much the same, but you could ask Guitar Chick what she thinks about the Kindle. I think she has one. :)

message 88: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I don't actually have a kindle, I have the free kindle app for the computer :) It works the same though, just not as portable.

message 89: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Oh yeah, I have that, too. I haven't used it yet, but I'm thinking I might someday soon. There's some mermaid ebooks out that look really good.

message 90: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I got Real Mermaids Don't Wear Toe Rings and Fins for that. It comes with Pride and Predjudice, Trasure Island, and Aesop's fables for free!

message 91: by Andre and Sophie (new)

Andre and Sophie (sophiem) | 11 comments After I finish what I'm reading now, I'm going to read "Seven Tears Into The Sea"

message 92: by Garrett (new)

Also might have to stop at B&N for Tempest Rising :D

message 97: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Awesome! You guys will love it! Right now, I'm reading All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) by Charlaine Harris and just finished the previous Sookie Stackhouse book. And I'm also waiting way too impatiently for True Blood to start back in June!

Garrett where did you get Tempest Rising? They didn't have it at Barnes and Noble :( I guess I could get it on amazon...

message 99: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Yeah, I got mine at Barnes and Noble. Maybe they've sold out, or they might not have bought any copies. Some books I've gone looking for didn't have them in stock. Plus, it's a whole lot cheaper to buy on Amazon anyway. :)

message 100: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Ah, Barnes And Noble who hate me.
