One question: Why are some members Deleted?

they aren't deleted, most of the times they are members who just left the group and probably even goodreads, but decided to leave their comments behind. When goodreads can't link the comments with an existing profile it shows them as deleted member....

It can be done.But we don't consider being inactive a crime worth deletion :)

Well, to be frank we did delete a few members about an year ago. These are members who joined goodreads site 3 years before and then never logged on back again. Mind you, these are members who have been inactive on the goodreads site (not just indian readers group) and that too for an extended period of more than an year or two... We sent a cross a bulk message to all members informing them that we are going to delete a few inactive members and if they want they can re-join anytime.

We took that decision at that time because the group strength used to show up around 1000 members or so but there were hardly 10-15 active members. But later on the number of active members slowly increased and i don't think the current mods see a need to delete any of the inactive members now.

And to answer ur specific qstn: yes, anyone can be deleted from the group!

exactly...until recently i used to play all the games and in the Past week i was not even able to view all the unread posts in IR ..looks like the next 2 yrs would hold the same in store for me :(

hi mods!
just wanted to say u all are doing a very good job. thanks for all ur hard work for the group! it is not easy to decide what is freedom of expression and what needs to be censored. i think the topics are organised and clear and help the newcomer navigate through the vast number of posts and topics. i also think the selection process for group book reads is a democratic one and that is great!

hey guys..We select the mods on need basis... As Smitha mentioned earlier, if you are regular to the group over 6 months and mature enough, you'll be a candidate for mod.. :)

Zana, my suggestion is you can form a teen group in GR (if its already not been done) if you are really interested, with teen mods. All adults can join in but youth power will be the deciding factor in that group. How about it?

Hi Zana,

Thanks for expressing your interest in becoming a moderator.
As Smitha has already suggested, we normally have more moderators on a need basis.

We choose new mods from the members who are regularly active on IR for at least 6 months and who help us to make IR a better place.
Nevertheless, please share your suggestions about the group here.
We'll defenitely implement them if they're bound to bring a positive change to IR. And who knows - in few months, you might get a mail from us :D
