hey Aditya..how about instead of having all the topics under "General" and "Deep Reading" you create separate threads like "Games".."Book Discussion" etc..
oh one topic has to be " reading updates" where all of us can start separate threads on our reading progress, starting 2011..

@Hazel, sure 'reading updates/progress' is going to be one of the folders now and users can create their individual threads inside it.

how about a group read column where we can pick one nice book which gets maximum votes from readers (or some such parameter) and ask all those who are interested in reading it no matter again or for the first time to join the discussion page.We can call it the book of the month or anything that suits you..
@ Aditya..I see you already created separate threads..you are quick :-)I have seen Genre threads in other groups. We could have broad threads like Fiction, Non-Fiction and topics relating to various genres within Fiction and Non-fiction under these or something on similar lines...
@Balkha, that seemed the easiest thing to do widout consulting the co-mods ;-) Yes, Fiction n Non-Fiction seem to be gud idea, but then wat abt books like Shantaram, our favorite? :-)
I figured Shantaram is fiction but decided to look it up any way and can confirm that it is largely fiction :-) though we could have a Other categories for books that don't fit in anywhere I suppose.
And maybe a misscelaneous folder so that general is less cluttered....

also how about starting a bday thread? i saw it in another group... wer the first post gets updated ( by the one who starts the thread) again n again based on who puts in their bdays as posts.... whatsay??? :)

we all enter our birthdays -for example, my son's birthday is on Nov 13. Under birthday thread, he will enter his birthday. Then we all get to wish each other on his or her big day.
just put in your bday as a post and the one who starts the thread just keeps updating the first post based on months... i'd like to do that if its fine with you'll!
but how will we know that it is a member's b'day??
Hazel, you just go ahead and open a new thread in 'general' folder, we can move that around to an appropriate place tonite, wat say?

@Balkha n all other, created most of the folders, except the Fiction n Non-Fiction folders. I created a separate thread for Indian fiction/non-fiction as i thought that's a basic necessity in our group! So shall we still go ahead and create Fiction n Non-Fiction? In that case we can totally do away with the Deep Reading folder and move all the threads there into the appropriate folders. Let us know...@Akanksha, done away with the general folder completely. Now am assuming every thread that one wants to create should fall into one of the existing folders, do let any of the moderators know if it doesn't, then we wll need to create a Miscellaneous folder!
@Dely, this is in response to ur post on the Etiquettes n Rules thread. What Smitha meant by obscenities is name-calling, hurling abuses at each other kind of stuff. And of course obscene pictures like the ones u have mentioned are an absolute no-no and will attract an immediate-ban from the moderators! Sorry for deleting ur post there, we'd like to keep that thread open only for moderators, any such doubts shall be entertained here in this thread!

I don't understand one thing: must i open a discussion with the books I would like to read next year? In the ones the other will open (like Hazel and Smitha have already done in "Reading Progress") can I write in their threads or only the owner can do it? Example: I see a book I have read and want to say "hey, very good book" or I see a book I would like to read and say "let me know how it is".If I have to ask for advices for some books where can I ask? Is there already a thread for this?
I had an idea for a new discussion if you agree: a thread where we can put pictures of us or our holidays, or ordinary life (like for example the christmas tree or a especially nice cake we have made, our animals...) or whatever we want to share with the other member of the group. Do you like it? Even if I don't know if it possibile to put pictures on goodreads.
Dely u can say "very good book" anytime u want! @ least i dun mind.. n i have a feeling Smitha wont either

As soon as I will have a lot of time I will do it because in order to let you understand what I am reading I want to search all the titles in english and I think it will be a long work to do.
instead of that y dont u put in the books as is.. n then put in a little description of it ( if im not mistaken u do this anyways ) so we understand what it is about.
I will see because a description for every book perhaps will be more complicated than search the title in english :/If I don't go wrong on goodreads even if I insert a book in italian it says automatically the original title in the form of the book. Some day I must look if it is really so.

Thanks Axe!@Dely, hope u got ur answers from Hazel n Smitha. But one word of caution regarding uploading photos of families on vacation. Remember this is a public group and that means anyone on goodreads can join this group and will be able to access ur photos. Please keep this in mind, the photos are public to anyone on Goodreads, and the Indian Readers group or its moderators will in no way be responsible for any misuse of those photos. This also goes for revealing/sharing of personal data and subsequent misuse of that. So beware members before u think of sharing something here. That said, we have no power to stop u from sharing anything that u want to, we can only put up disclaimers like these!
Am sorry, i know am sounding harsh, but it is very important to lay down the ground rules and put up disclaimers as early as possible. I shall get this one put up on the etiquette/welcome thread very soon.
@Adz & Smitha hey you've totally changed the look of this group..btw when do you plan to change the display picture??

@Aditya: I am too paranoiac to put some pictures of me or my son on internet but I thought that perhaps not everybody is so paranoiac like me or we can put only pictures without people. I will see, if tomorrow I will have some time I will open the thread so you can see what I mean with my idea.
@Meenakshi, thanks. Reg. the display pic, i personally felt that the current one is very apt, anyways my opinion doesn't matter. Let me just put up a poll asking for those in favor of changing the display pic. Will keep the poll open for a week and based on the results we will go forward. Wat say?
