I still have to read Vampire Academy but I've never heard of Beautiful Creatures.
Jazmyn wrote: "The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong is really good, have you read them?"

Oh yeah those are great too! But I like THG better.

Holly (readableholly) | 6 comments you should definitely read The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong, one of my favorite series.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 31 comments What other books do you like besides The Mortal Instruments?

I second the Hunger Games recommendation. It's a post-apocalypse/dystopia book where North America is broken into 12 Districts, all controlled by the (evil...well, ruled by evil) Capitol. Every year, each District has to send two of their teenagers to fight in the Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death game show that everyone in the districts is forced to watch. The story follows one of the tributes through the Games. It's a great story with a great romance subplot...(the love interest is quite awesome). Anyways, it's a great story. Highly recommended.

Have you read Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Or the sequal to that series, The Lost Hero (I don't remember the new series's title)? Graceling? The Gone series?

Some other books I really like, but aren't that similar to The Mortal Instruments that I would still recommend are Speak, Wintergirls, The Giver, Life As We Knew It, Pride and Prejudice, and The Outsiders.

Mairead | 309 comments THG is one of my favourite series. I totally agree with it!

message 11: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Meehhh not a big HG fan here :-/

But, as others have mentioned ... If you like Mortal Instruments you'd probably like Darkest Powers. Those are great. :)

Personally, my favorite series besides TMI are Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan and the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness.

I have to agree there :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black Jace from MI is mentioned in a brief cameo. The author is a friend of Clare's and maybe because they proof each other's work it almost feels as if they have similar writing styles.

Will throw in another HG vote, but at this point most people know about that series.

Brigid ✩ Jen wrote: "I just started Uglies today. Anyone like those a lot?"

I loooove Uglies. It seems like a lot of people don't like them, though. Sad. I guess the characters aren't the most compelling, but the plot and world building are brilliant, IMO.

Michelle (mvpstrawberries) | 11 comments im waiting on clocksworth angel from a friend but im goonna add most of the series mentioned to my to read list...

and i loved the uglies read them when i was 15. i actually really liked the first three but later when scott westerfiled came out with a fourth n finale book to the series i didn't like it...it wasn't even about tally anymore. it was based on a different, younger girl. and tally and her first were famous but left civilization.

I see what you mean. I'm nearly halfway through and I love the storyline but the characters aren't the most exciting. In a way I like it though. Yes, Tally wants to reveal Shay's location in order to get the operation (that's as far as I got no spoilers please) and that's immoral BUT she's also not purposely written to be sooo much better than every other character in the book which I can appreciate. I LIKE reading about a girl who clearly isn't perfect and has flaws, but this is why most people hate Tally.

message 27: by Daylighter (new)

Daylighter (pantea13) trust me that's not why i hated Tally, keep reading and later when you're done with the first book, you can ask me why i hated her!

message 28: by Jahd (new)

message 36: by Beverly (new)

Beverly (beverly_) Shiver, Wolves of Mercy Falls Series by Maggie Stiefvater
Book of Shadows, Wicca Series by Cate Teirnan
A Great and Terrible Beauty, Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray
Wake, Dream Catcher Trilogy by Lisa McMann
I also seccond/third/whatever The Hunger Games<3, Darkest Powers, Hush Hush

message 37: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jmurray81) | 5 comments A second vote here for the Wiccan series by Cate Teirnan. They are quite excellent, I ended up buying them all (14 or 15 books). Hit my bank account a little, but worth it. Another one I haven't seen mentioned here is the Morganville Vampire series. Like that as well. The Vampire Academy is great! The last book just came out, so it is a complete series now.

message 38: by Kathleen Aprille (new)

Kathleen Aprille de Jesus (snowpelt) | 1 comments Hi!! Why don't you try the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. It's really the best story I've ever read. Or try books by L.J. Smith. They're also a good book to read.

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) hey guess,
I have the same problem, I've already finished:

Mortal Instruments
Hunger Games
Clockwork Angel
Shiver (Wolves of mercy fall)
Darkest Power series
Harry Potter series
The Host
The Fever series

But now I'm looking for a book with romance with human main characters. Like in "the Host". At the moment I just have enough of superhumen strengh and immortallity. Could someone recommened me a good love book, where they still have to fight for their live or for somehing and in the end theres a happy end :)
With much love and adorable characters. It don't have to be a series. Like (i already said) in The Host

THANKS

message 40: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelcully) Quick shout out to some of the books already mentioned above:
GONE is one of the best series i have every read. I recommend that highly, Im reading the new 4th book now.
Also I think Graceling was mentioned before, another amazing book. it has a companion novel that i didn't like as much but Both are still really good if you like fantasy quest kinda books and really strong female lead characters.

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) thanks for your help.
I've already added your recommendetions to my "ro-read" list. THANKS :)

message 42: by Dani (new)

Dani Graceling is amazing definitely read it.
Hush, Hush is also good. The second book is a little slow but the ending is awesome.
You could try Percy Jackson. I enjoyed it thoroughly and the Lost Hero is also good.
I highly recommend The Warrior Heir and it's companion books. One of my favorite series of all time!
The Hunters Moon and all of the Chronicles of Faerie books are good.
Also check out The Awakening and the other two books in that series.
That's all I can think of for now! Hope that helps!
