Lady Suaveolens (ladysuaveolens) | 1 comments Hi Everyone,
My name is Trina. I love to read. Really enjoy Historical fiction/Romance, Urban Fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Classical literature. Only ones I can't do is pure Science Fiction (Dunes style) and Crime/Mystery (like Michael Crichton, and he was good!)
I joined this community to keep up with the good reading, join some cool discussions and get to share the love for books with others.

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Maria! There are plenty of book discussions and buddy reads, have a look around and jump in on any that sound interesting to you :)

message 607: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Hi, I'm Veronica. I found this group because it kept popping up on my timeline (or whatever it's called here) from a couple of my GR buddies who are members. The discussions always seemed interesting so here I am! I read mostly UF with some mysteries (cozy and historical) thrown in. I do read some PNR but not too much as I tend to like the slow burn relationships, stretched over a few books, better.

message 608: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Veronica! Plenty of UF fans here not to mention cozies & historicals, we're an eclectic bunch :D

Veronica (readingonthefly) Thanks Sandra. I'm taking my time touring the place but it definitely looks like fun.

I love the BDB series. Lot's of good of things happen in book 9. Feel free to ask for suggestions of what you're looking for. You can also take a look at my bookshelves. That may give you some ideas. I don't read YA so they're all adult.

Hey Jose Welcome to the group!
There are a few ways to get recommendations if you have a specific type of book you are looking for please feel free to begin a thread in the general book talk section.

The Mods have listed some of our favorite authors which is called meed your mods and you can see the list for the four of us here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Off the top of my head I would suggest Patricia Briggs, Simon Green, Ilona Andrews, Tanya Huff and Kevin Hearne.

Hi
I'm Debbie. I am an avid kindle reader to the point that I have cleared the spare bedroom of all paper except those special ones. I love to read and its my best form of relaxation. Favorite authors include: JR Ward; Nalini Singh; Ilona Andrews; Laurann Doher; Lara Adrian; Karen Chance; Christina Lauren; CM Stunich; Kristen Ashley and Jodi Ellen Malpas to name but a few. As you can see I read across the board and have joined in the hope of book discussions to while away the cold winter nights that are coming.

Snarktastic Sonja (snownsew) | 15 comments Hi, I'm Sonja. Thought about doing the whole 'addict' thing, but I decided that I was in a like-minded crowd, so I am definitely safe. I have already jumped into the buddy read thread, so I thought an intro was appropriate.

I got carried into Urban Fantasy kicking and screaming. I would get very annoyed going to the sci fi/fantasy section of the bookstore only to find books about vampires. I blamed Twilight. I yelled and screamed. (Metaphorically ... didn't want to embarrass the kids) Stumbled into Lisa Shearin. Fell in love. Her books all track back to urban fantasy. Did some more kicking and screaming. . . NOT uf, what are they THINKING! Fell into Mercy Thompson. Gave in.

Since then, I have read through many series - that fit my own little tidy hole of avoiding triggers . . . this is NOT easy, but I am a stubborn sort.

I love Patrica Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Eileen Wilks, Shannon Meyer and Devon Monk. (Also Lisa Shearin - if you consider her UF) I prefer about any type of magic to vampires. Vampires scare me. They creep me out and keep me up nights. And they are too darn political. I am still dipping my feet into the genre, so to speak. Love to find more books to read.

message 620: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Davis (galifrey) Hi everyone. I don't think I introduced myself here, was just eavesdropping.

I'm Rachel, I live in Florida, work a boring day job, and thus, escape with books. I found this group by searching "Elizabeth Hunter", who is probably my favorite author. I actually cried when I finished reading her Elemental Mysteries series because it was over. And I don't cry by nature. I read all genres but, looking over my list of books read for the year, have to say I've been in deeply into YA, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy. So I look forward to being a part of this group!

I have never heard of Shannon Meyer do you by chance mean Shannon Mayer - she wrote Priceless?? It is a kindle book for like $2.99?
If so that is truly ironic I was just debated on if I should give that series a go.

Yes. It is a great deal for 2.99. I feel her books are a tad on the short side, but for that price, you can't really go wrong.

message 627: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi everyone, my name is Lisa. I am from Sydney, Australia. I obviously love paranormal romance, and am constantly on the hunt for something that compares to KMM. That is how I came upon this group. Im looking forward to making new friends and finding new books.

message 628: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Hi Lisa, fellow Sydneysider here, Welcome!

message 632: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi Bell, absolutely not, I hate hot. We are temporarily here visiting family, while we temporarily live in Victoria, lol. There is no where near as much humidity there, but in SE Gippsland we have a lot of rain instead.

Welcome Bell :)

message 634: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Hello! I'm Angie, and I don't know that I could pick a favorite author, but my current favorite series is The Night Huntress series and its spinoff the Night Huntress World books. I'm so sad that the original series is almost over, looking forward to at least one more Vlad book and I'm excited about the new series Ms Frost announced recently. I'm also impressed with her integrity, considering she chose to go with less books rather than put in filler and make her whole series lesser for it *cough*Harris*cough*. But my current obsession is Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires. I finished book 4 about an hour ago, and in my attempt to find out if my heartbreak would be mended in book 5, I found this group. OH!! And if you can't tell, sometimes I can overshare, be long winded and just talk to much! Lastly I'd just like to tell all of you all in Australia how terribly jealous I am. I have who knows how much snow outside and the poor thermometer feels like a heatwave has blown through if it hits 25F. I'm so NOT a cold weather/ snow person. I'm happiest when it's 65-75F outside.

message 635: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Hi Angie! Welcome to our group. No such thing as being over the top when sharing what you feel about your favourite books. Got to agree with you on the Ms Frost issue; I'm a big fan of hers for all her books and looking forward to Up From the Grave (Night Huntress, #7) by Jeaniene Frost

And agree that Aus is a pretty nice place to live, I'm so not a cold-lover either :DD

message 636: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I'm so excited! In the next 7 days, we're supposed to be above freezing 6 of those days!! Ugh!! If it weren't for the idea of change scares me half to death and an Aussie friend has told me about terrible rain storms that make travel nearly impossible, I'd think seriously about a change of scenery. Some pictures I've seen of Australia are among of the most beautiful pictures of the earth. But the heat would eventually kick my rear too. I have a neurological condition that causes headaches, and high temps or the barometric pressure changing too much or being too high or too low feels like a vise has my head. And those rain storms would NOT help!

message 637: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Angie, we have all climatic conditions here, remember, Aus is as big as America.

I'm guessing the rain storms you're referring to would be up the top end, which catches some Monsoon type weather, but most of us don't have to deal with any more than normal rain. Sure we get hot weather, but its only in summer and that's why they invented air con ;)

message 638: by Bell (new)

Bell Curran (Curran_Bell) | 10 comments Angie, if it makes you feel any better, it doesn't get as cold in Sydney (though it does in the Snowy Mountains) as you're describing, but the flip side of that is that many homes don't have very good insulation, and few have central heating, so even if it usually only gets down to 45-50F in winter, you really feel that acutely when indoor temperatures are around 50-55. We moved here from the U.S. and brought our winter coats with us, and we eat breakfast and dinner wearing those coats for most of winter. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, enjoy the coming 7 days of mostly above-freezing! Our highs for the next week will range from 75-85F... *gloating*

message 639: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Oh Bell!! That would be horrible!! I don't have central heat but I have much better insulation than you described! That would be terrible in winter or summer, just because all of your air conditioning getting out would cost so much when it floated out the sides of your house!! That just makes me feel colder, the idea of no insulation! When I was a kid, my dad was in the army and we lived in Germany. We didn't get snow really the whole time we were there, which of course the mountains got plenty. Of course we lived in Bavaria, so toward the southern 1/4 of the country. It also didn't get the 100 degree days in the summer, which was equally as nice. If they hadn't had terrible floods when some of my parents' friends were visiting this past summer, I'd think they had the best weather. Of course that's tempered by 20+ years of remembering, which always puts a different shine on things!!

message 640: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Bell, needing your coats to eat would be very frustrating. I've got great insulation, just like Angie, in fact I live in a passive solar house, so its great all yr round. We only use the air con if it gets really hot, like 41C, which it usually does for a few days in January. And a combustion heater in the winter cause we like the crackling flames.

message 641: by Lisa (new)

Lisa We are currently travelling through the snowies on our way back to Victoria. It's odd being here when there isn't any snow, but still incredibly beautiful country. We are up early tomorrow to "catch the light" as my husband tells me. He loves landscape photography, so I guess an early night for us. And I thanks the gods for air conditioning, haha.

message 642: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Sandra, I'm about to invite myself to move in!! It would take a while since I'd have to get my passport renewed, but you've yet to tell me something bad lol! I would absolutely love to build a sustainable house, I even have the idea picked out from a company called Earthship in Taos New Mexico. Recycled and sustainable, which would be awesome. Unfortunately I became disabled about 4 years ago, and even though I had to fight to get social security disability (at the ripe age of 37), it leaves no extra room for saving to build an extra expensive sustainable house. But they make them all over the world, and the way they're made, there's hardly any need for heat or air conditioning, except in the most extreme of temps. Sorry, I'm totally love with them, and they make gorgeous designs out of the craziest materials, like tires, beer bottles and aluminum cans. You should check out their designs and interiors at their website, they truly make some amazing homes out of what most people consider garbage.

message 643: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Yes, I watch all those shows on TV, like World's Greenest Homes, sometimes Grand Designs has sustainable houses as well.

Sorry to hear you have a disability that prevents you doing something about the sustainability angle, and yes it did cost a little more than the avg house, but not OTT expensive or we couldn't have afforded to do it either.

message 644: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Lisa, the craziest thing I remember in Europe was going to the Swiss Alps in the summer, and the mountains were still covered, and people were laying out in bikinis and the such sunbathing. In the middle of the SNOW!! It actually wasn't that cold, we had light to medium weight jackets on, but really I guess you'd have to be used to the temps or really really want a tan!!

message 645: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Lol Angie! now that would have been a sight! I'm new to the group too. Just been having a sticky beak at the bookshelf, and I'm so glad to see there are still lots of authors to explore for me. I think I will like it here, haha.

message 646: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Lisa, I agree 100% that we've seemed to have lucked upon an amazing group! I have a group of reading friends on Facebook, that we actually all came together as fans of a fan fiction writer, whose stories are a million times better than the original IMO. The writer passed away in November pretty suddenly at 37, but that seems to have brought us all together with a stronger bond. She may have been the reason the group was started 3 years ago, but as we all got to know her better, we got to know each other too. So we became a reading/ support group all in one, not to mention we have forums for personal issues, rants, and of course, new books, favorite books, favorite published authors, and really all things reading. They were my first reading buddies, but they taught me that finding a great group or two with more, or just different knowledge, of the PNR/UF genre can be extremely valuable. In fact, they pointed me toward The Night Huntress books, which I count among my favorites of all time! So I'm very excited to have found this new-to-me group here, and I hope to learn of more amazing series or even stand alones. Reading is an amazing escape for anyone with the imagination enough to make words on the page a true story in their mind.

message 647: by Lol (new)

Lol Stanney Hi im Lol . my fav authors are Keri Arthur, Kelley armstrong, Patricia Briggs and Rachael vincent. Read ALOT and would LOVE some recommendations for some new authors as im struggling to find series that capture me the same way as my fav authors

message 648: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Lol! How about Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison, J.R. Ward, Eileen Wilks and Nancy Gideon and as you like crime novels as well, J.D. Robb.

You're bound to like something out of that bunch ;)

Victoria | 16 comments Hi, I'm Victoria. I love PNR, sexy with humor. My favorite author(s) are Shelly Laurenston aka G.A. Aiken, Kresley Cole and Tina Folsom. Love vampires, but crazy nuts about shifters and dragons. When I want quick, hot & heavy...Selena Blake. But my weakness is that I must, must have a HEA. :P
