I mean, it wasn't a bad book. Taken for what it is, it was a fair read and I was touched by a few of the details in the story. I just thought it was more of creeps and thrills (you know, the usual Stephen King).

I think that's the general expectation. That's part of the reason I try to tell people that it's really not a horror book before they read it. I think you enjoy the book more when you're not expecting scary.

That is exactly why I loved Joyland by Stephen King :)
I'm not a fan of Horror and I only read it because I was told it wasn't a 'typical' King book. I think you described it perfectly above Kristie!

message 1555: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments @Noir - At least he has plenty of other books that can satisfy your need for scary! :)

@Karen - Thanks!

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi - Just finished this on audio. I've read it before, but never finished the series so I wanted to start from the beginning. Not too bad. Not amazing. A solid 3 star.

Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky, #0.5) by Veronica Rossi - Finished this companion short and it was interesting to hear the whole story behind why Liv was gone and hear about Roar before the first novel happened, when he was happy. Good short read.

Current Reads:
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant

@Jex - I read Under the Never Sky as a combo of audio and paperback and I didn't really like or connect with Aria, so I agree with 3 stars, I probably will finish it sometime.

Is it your first read of Magic Bites? If so, stick with the series it really does build on itself and is my fave paranormal series
And hooray for Newsflesh! You seem to have been reading that trilogy forever ;)

message 1561: by Ari (new)

Ari (aristotlelovesbooks) The Academy by Bentley Little was not at all impressive, but it was good to read my first Bentley Little.

Current Reads:
Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert

So i am only reading a little bit at a time. I am also reading Throne of glass on my iPod. I also got Grave mercy on my iPod so i will start that at some point.

Sarah | 3273 comments I am finishing up May We Be Forgiven today. What a roller coaster ride. And contemporary and absurd and humorous. Very interesting book for my pm kmreal life book club, but so glad I have discovered this author.

message 1585: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Broman (matthewbroman) | 5 comments I'm actually in the process of reading several books right now, the 9/11 Commission Report, i don't know if i personally buy into the "official" story as the Government claims happened. I am a bit of a skeptic and conspiracy guy myself, I don't always believe what I see/read esp from our Government haha. But I've been wanting to read the book for some time (to get The Gov't side of it) but just haven't gotten around to it until I saw it for cheap at the Goodwill and picked it up but personally I think it's questionable
The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea & Robert, not sure what to say/think about this book other than its really trippy and can be difficult to follow but still interesting if you like conspiracies and the Illuminati/NWO type stuff.
I am also reading Fool Moon by Jim Butcher (the Dresden Files Book 2) a scifi/supernatural murder series, I like it far.
And finally, I'm reading The Bible (in pictures) all the parables of Jesus in the NT
