I love him and I really enjoyed this book.

Stefani Robinson (steffiebaby140) | 807 comments Currently working on.... Serial by John Lutz

So far I am finding it a bit predictable. I am pretty certain that I figured out who the killer is about a hundred pages ago. And even if I am wrong then the story will be totally dumb and not even make any sense. So predictable or stupid...not sure which I am rooting for lol.

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished reading Master of the Night (Mageverse, #2) by Angela Knight it was awesome, Angela Knight is a good author I'm really liking her. Now I'm getting ready to read The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #6) by Kim Harrison

message 455: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I just finished Perfect (Second Opportunities #2) by Judith McNaught and i really enjoyed it. I think I enjoy Judith McNaught's contemporary as much as I do her historicals. That's a first for me.

Shay | 923 comments I'm almost halfway through 11/22/63. I really like it. King always makes me nervous that the "BAD" King will show up. But, this book pretty much had me hooked from the opening chapter. If it continues to be this good, I think it will rank up there with his best works.

message 457: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) I just finished Betrayed (House of Night, #2) by P.C. Cast and I thought it was pretty good. I actually liked it better that the first in the series. A friend of my really loved these books and I feel they are kind of a let down for me. I plan on reading the rest of the series slowly over time.

☕️Kimberly (Caffeinated Reviewer) (kimbacaffeinate) The Language of Flowers The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh about 100 pages in a so far i like it

message 459: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) I picked up Working Stiff (A Mattie Winston Mystery #1) by Annelise Ryan from the library today, and started it on my way home. I started giggling within the first 5 pages. Enjoying it so far. Sometimes it feels like the author tries a leetle too hard to make things funny, but so far it's not grating on my nerves yet.

Lisa Kay (or any other nurses), got a question for you: do OR or ER nurses do any cutting people open?

Now I'm reading Fallen by Laury Falter

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished up The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #6) by Kim Harrison this series is definitely getting better and better even with the heartache. Now reading The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies, #2) by Pittacus Lore

Kellyflower | 248 comments Finished up two books and now I'm reading:
Triangles by Ellen Hopkins by Ellen Hopkins and Chimera (Chimera, #1) by Rob Thurman by Rob Thurman. I'm having a hard time connecting with the main character in this one. I think it's the whole Russian mob thing that's going on.
When I opened the Hopkins book and saw it was done in verse I said "Eww", but once I started in with the story I had a hard time putting it down to get some sleep.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Just finished:
Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine - I loved it! I requested the next book in the series from the library. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Listening to:
The Lost Dogs Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption by Jim Gorant - The description of how the dogs are treated makes me want to cry and I don't even like dogs.

Just Starting:
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake - I'm excited to read this finally.

message 465: by Sashana (new)

Sashana How is the book different? I'd love to know, I've seen a few episodes of the show (mostly season 1) and I enjoyed them.

message 466: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Ahh, in the show she doesn't have any kids and she's very clinical. I'll have to check out the books nonetheless. Thanks, Natasha.

message 467: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I believe the TV show, Bones, takes place, chronologically, before the books series starts. I think they did that to avoid the issues other shows linked to books have (like True Blood and Dexter). I'm pretty sure that Temperance Brennan is the only character from the show in the books. I don't recall any kind of crossover- I haven't read the books in a few years, though.

I'm not a big fan of Maggie Stiefvater. I've attempted to read two of her books but I couldn't even make it half way through.

Although I wouldn't say I'm a fan of her books, I did enjoy them, and especially her writing, which is why I was so excited for this book. In this book though, I feel like her beautiful writing has vanished. Plus, I'm almost 100% sure this book will end with a cliff hanger.

message 472: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Her writing is too flowery for my taste.

message 473: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments I get what you're saying Sashana, and it's like that for me sometimes.

Anyways, I finished The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater . Her writing wasn't good, and the book was super hard to get into, and slowed down alot. It was pretty disappointing...

I'm thinking I'm going to start The Trouble with May Amelia by Jennifer L. Holm next. It looks like a pretty quick read.

I started this book a few times. I read a few pages, think, "Eh," and put it down. Read something better, forget about it. Pick it up in a few days, do the same thing.

It's one of those books you have to make a committment to read. Otherwise, it's nearly impossible to read. At several times while reading this book, I had to force myself to read it.

At what point (page number/chapter) does it get better?

message 477: by Aneeqah (last edited Nov 19, 2011 03:39PM) (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments Honestly, besides the end, it doesn't really catch your attention. There were some scenes in the middle though that were fairly interesting, though. I think for me, it got somewhat better around page 100, but I'll have to check to be sure. It's a book without a real plot, in my opnion.

☕️Kimberly (Caffeinated Reviewer) (kimbacaffeinate) I just finished Evil Inside and loved it now I am reading Johnny Doesn't Drink Champagne

message 479: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine -This book is really hard to rate. On one hand I didn't really enjoy the story overall (which is not to say I didn't like it, but I wasn't impressed by it) but on the other hand the storyline was really original-especially when compared to whats on the market at the moment. I mean c'mon, this book had genies! (Can you say awesomesauce?)

I don't think Jo makes a good Urban Fantasy MC—I don't even know if this book should be classified as an Urban Fantasy. She is one of those girls-in love with every man she meets and frivolous about love. When I read Urban Fantasy I was to see kick ass protagonist, not a love sick puppy. So I'm giving this book 2 stars for the plot, but an additional star for originality. And the genies, can't forget the genies...

message 480: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished Mistress of the Sun Mistress of the Sun by Sandra Gulland . I liked it but nowhere near as much as the Josephine trilogy and I'm not sure why. Might be that Louise isn't as dynamic a character as Josephine. Or that she views life through a prism that I have a harder time resonating with than the one Josephine saw through. Good book, but Josephine is still far and away my favorite.

message 481: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) My sister and I watched Breaking Dawn last night, and I came home wanting to reread it - but my sister stole my book and I couldn't convince her to read New Moon first. :\ Here's a good reason why we ought to get our own copies of books. lol.

So I went to the digital library system. Unfortunately, the only copy available was the audiobook.

I have to say, some books really ought not to be read out loud. Not only am I not impressed by the narrator (ugh, but her voice for Alice makes me cringe), but listening to it really highlighted how badly written and boring this book is. Listening to low self-esteem Bella gush about Edward's perfection keeps making me roll my eyes although...I did that while I read it too. haha. At least when I read/reread it, I can skip whatever I want.

message 482: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished reading White Witch, Black Curse (The Hollows, #7) by Kim Harrison and it was a great book, sad, and got some closure. I couldn't quite get Rachel and the crew out of my head once I finished so I started reading Black Magic Sanction (The Hollows, #8) by Kim Harrison and got about 155 pages in before I crashed this morning.

Shay | 923 comments Quotes from the book, someone posted it in their review and I just copied it because I'm too lazy to go back and find it and type it out:

“Summer is like a slow-cooker bringing everything in the world to a boil one degree at a time. It promises a million happy adjectives only to pour stench and sewage into your nose for dinner.”

“I hate the lackadaisical ennui of a sun too preoccupied with itself to notice the infinite hours we spend in its presence.”

The book is full of clunkers like the above quotes. Like a 12 year old went nuts with a thesaurus. You can almost see the "i"'s dotted with hearts and smiley faces written on unicorn paper. So bad, you're embarrassed for the author.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just started Up Jumps the Devil Up Jumps the Devil (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #4) by Margaret Maron . I have a personal challenge this year called "batting clean-up" where I'm finishing everything I have not yet read of authors I'd already read most of. Margaret Maron is one of them. I had a feeling the book was going to be awful, but I couldn't resist it because I kept seeing the ads. I don't know why, but if I keep seeing an ad for a book and the cover looks somewhat good, I just want to read it. I have a ton of books I bought or borrowed because of a GR ad. I'm not like that with advertising normally- I don't see a breakfast cereal, jeans, etc. commercial and buy the product. But for some reason, I'm weak when it comes to books. I think I'm just looking for an excuse.

I've found that that happens to me alot as well. Whenever I see book ads, it makes me want to go out and read the book, and it usually gets me really hyped up about the book too. Like, for example, Shatter Me. I've heard pretty bad things about the book, but I'll probably end up reading it, because the ads are everywhere.
