Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Let's Talk About: Your Books

What are you reading AND what do you think?

I hope to be starting Darkfever in the next month or so myself.
There we go! Carol told me. Sorry, I couldn't remember who it was! And just for the record, I haven't got to start Dreamfever yet so I am still hanging. Grrr!

She's still switching back and forth a little but it's no longer a distraction. She writes a good historical-- this is the third one of hers I've read and even though I usually have 7-8 books going at once, I find when one of them is one of hers, the other books I'm reading get neglected.
Just started The Stolen Crown: The secret marriage that forever changed the fate of England
which seems so far to be about the same story as The Queen of Last Hopes
only told from the perspective of some characters on the other side of the conflict. Interesting, and I didn't realize that when I started it. Plus it's the last book I need for a couple of my May challenges so BOOYAH!
I'm currently reading Appassionata by Jilly Cooper and am in love with it. The previous book in this non-series, series (the author claims its not a series), was not so good. But I am loving all the characters in this book, and some of the characters from the earlier books returning, which I'm digging.
Started SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes And Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance and Deadly Notions today, having just finished The Thief of Venice and The Stolen Crown: The secret marriage that forever changed the fate of England this morning.
After removing a book or two to my "finish later" pile, and completing another at last, I'm down to 5 books in my Currently Reading list. I'm still working on Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead. I had set it aside to read other books. I'm finding it slow going, partially because Rose's actions and the subsequent consequences make me uncomfortable. Now I have to decide whether to finish it now or to finish it at a far later date since it's already overdue at the library.
I also started The Sleeping Beauty by Mercedes Lackey for the All About Me Reading Challenge. Already her writing style, once familiar and beloved, is grating on me but I'm doing my best to ignore. It's been a while since I'd read her previous Five Hundred Kingdoms books so now I'm wracking my head to remember who Lily was.
I started The Murderer's Daughters last night which I am reading for the "All About Me Challenge". I really like it so far because it is extremely different from the last few books I read. There are definitely some sad parts in the book that make me feel grateful for the life that I have because of all the things these two young girls have to endure. I would definitely recommend this book and I'm only on page 98!
I'm reading
Which I'm none too excited about but I promised a friend I would read it.But does anyone have a favorite book they'd like to recommend to me? I'm want to try something new...suggestions?
I've started The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. I have a feeling I'll be taking my time with this. I'm also interested in checking out the German version but I probably won't touch that considering my limited German has become very, very rusty. lol.

Saving Francesca is pretty good.

Willow and North of Beautiful were really good too. You can never go wrong with Simone Elkeles either (IMO).

A Prayer for Owen Meany. One of the very few "modern" books I've given 5 stars to. I noticed you like YA books, have you tried Ellen Hopkins's series that starts with Crank? Or Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys?
Thanks guys and I haven't read any of those books. I do read young adult but also read other genres, it's hard to pick a good book out of thousands, good to get ya'lls opinions, so thank you. But I also heard of The Fever series, don't know much about it, do you? Anyways, thanks again guys, definately will try and check those books out.
Lost by Michael Robotham
This is the 2nd book of the Joseph O'Loughlin series and I love it!! It changes main characters from the 1st book so that the old main character is now a secondary one with someone else narrating and a larger cast. It's a great story. Complex but not confusing.
Finished Need, thought the main character was too corny and the writing was immature but that is just my opinion...I'm now reading
Which I am loving so far, the writing is really good and the plot is thick, love books I just don't want to put down...
I'm reading six books at the moment but the ones I'm focusing on are
and
. I honestly can't complain about them. They're really good.
I'm reading:
- Good book. It started off slow but it had some seriously funny moments so far. The writing will suit adults because it doesn't read like a YA book.
- It feels like pulling teeth with me trying to finish this book.
- I don't even know it this qualifies as "Currently Reading" because I haven't touched it in weeks.
"I don't even know it this qualifies as "Currently Reading" because I haven't touched it in weeks."lol, Sashana. I wonder that too sometimes. When I get tired of seeing it on my "Currently Reading" shelf and I have a feeling I probably won't get to it for another set of many weeks, I put it back to my TBR pile as well as my "finish reading" shelf.
I'm reading Vision in White by Nora Roberts. It's not bad so far. I thought that the Prologue was really cute.
I'm reading Sophie's World and realizing it is more of a history of philosophy than a novel which means I feel like I'm actually learning something. lol.
I "read" Rise, Let Us Be On Our Way by Pope John Paul II - or rather, listen to it - when I am working out. Problem with doing so on an iPod is that there is no way to bookmark the last spot you were on. Hmph.
The other four books on my Currently Reading shelf are apparently just decoration. lol.
I'd feel pleased about the fact that I have on my Currently Reading shelf more books outside of my normal genre(s) than normal ones but the truth is, I've been completing my normal genre books in between my Currently Reading books.
I'm trying to read Wuthering Heights (it's hard cause my first language is French, but I am good in English).
I finished three books I've been working on-- Franklin and Winston
, In the Shadow of the Crown
and Spinning into Butter: A Play
. "Franklin" was wonderful. "Shadow" was good in the beginning and then. Just. Got. Tedious. I was glad to see the end of it. "Spinning" was both good and disappointing-- it's about racism and she seems to get close to an a-ha moment without actually reaching it completely. But then, that may well be part of her point.
I just started and haven't really had time to sit down and get into it, I will later today though but I will let you know what I think.
Reading The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey. It's okay so far but I don't recognize the fairy tale it is drawing from yet.
Reading
It's really good, have less than a hundred pages, the background info. on Todd is so sad...very good book just wish it had less foul language.
I'm reading
and if you don't have it on your reading list then you should promptly do so. That is all.
i'm still reading
having a hard time sitting down and reading it. I'm like 151 pages into it, and already i'm slightly confused, and then another triumvarate or however it's spelled WTH??? Does this book get any better?
I finished all but one of the books I was reading:
and enjoyed them all. Now, to finish
and start
. Gotta pick a new audio, too--maybe
which I'm reading for a summer challenge.
I haven't been reading lately, with homework, and I've started watching Game of thrones so I've been blah on reading lol
I've been reading a lot but I'm going to cool it down for the next 6 weeks because I'm starting college tomorrow. Yikes!
yeah that's me right now I got 2 weeks left then I can read like a speed demon thru July until middle of August and then my reading will slow down again.
At least it's only 2 weeks. I won't be able to read properly until the end of July. I'm not complaining though, it's a nice change. (Let's see what I have to say about that in a few days)
