JackieB | 251 comments I've just started Sacrifice by S.J. Bolton. I'm not quite sure what to make of it at the moment. I think I'm struggling because I'm not really warming to the main character, which could be a problem since it's narrated in the first person. I'll probably reach the 100 page mark sometime tonight which is my "deadline". If I'm not enjoying it by then, I'll abandon it.

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) Down River by John Hart

Down River by John Hart

This should be a good one.

message 53: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) Getting ready to start The Nature of Monsters. I've seen alot of mixed reviews on this one. It seems as though either you really like it or you hate it.

That's useful to know, thank you Mary! I've got both books, but haven't read either yet, so will go for "The Devil's Star" first.

Some of my favorites are: Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Lee Child, James Lee Burke, Harlan Coben, Dennis Lehane....many more, but if you haven't tried any of these, they are all very good. Happy trails....

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I'm over half way thru The Nature of Monsters and I really like it but so far it has been heartbreaking. Am hoping for a happy ending.

This has to be one of my favourite books, I'm envious of anyone who is about to read it for the first time. Lucky you

NB In response to SHirley's explanation of how to add book links to posts:

Thanks! But I'm not very observant am I? I never noticed those options at the top of the posting box.

I just finished it!! Wow!! What a Book! I have been recommending it to everyone I know! My aunt lives in Spain and is looking for the Spanish version! It has been ages since a book as left me feeling like this one did! Definitely my favourite book of this year so far and it is going to be tough to beat!

message 68: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I did finish The Nature of Monsters and I loved it. I have also finished Saving Ceecee Honeycutt and loved that one too.

Currently I am almost half way thru City of Ashes and I like it much more than City of Bones except for this incest thing going on here.

message 69: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments Finished The Lemon Tree a couple of days ago - an ok read, but nothing special. Have started The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - really interesting and highly readable.

message 70: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) Finished City of Ashes and really liked it much better than the first one.

Getting started now on The Scarlet Letter

message 71: by Jan (new)

Jan (momatrain) | 9 comments I was trying to readThe Fourth Hand. I am about ready to give up anything more than Trixie Beldon or The Bobsey Twins. Is it just me or is John Irving hard to enjoy. I find this book just plain dumb.
What am I missing??

message 72: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Reading Trespass by Rose Tremain, but not entirely enjoying it. Not bad enough to ditch, but I'll be glad to move on to something new.

message 73: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) Just started Lavinia and about 1/4 of the way into City of Glass and so far I like both of these.

message 74: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) working on

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments In addition to Trespass, I'm also readingPoison Study by Maria V. Snyder which seems much more to my liking.

message 77: by Jan (new)

Jan (momatrain) | 9 comments Just finished Driving with Dead People & started The Boys of My Youth. I'm in memoir mode. Also working on Outlander on my Kindle. About 40% in & still waiting to love it. I can't be so different from so many who say it is so fabulous.....can I?

message 78: by Jan (new)

Jan (momatrain) | 9 comments Can anyone tell me when I will start to love Outlander? It has such fantastic reviews & my niece absolutely loved the series, I thought wow, here goes! I am about 40% (on Kindle) in & still waiting to get hooked. Maybe I should move on & come back to it in a different mood.

message 79: by Mary (new)

Mary (ivybuttons) | 1431 comments If your not getting into it Jan leave it for a couple of weeks or months. If you still can't get into it then it's just not for you. Just because loads of other people like it doesn't mean you will too. Horses for courses hunny.

message 80: by Mary (new)

Mary (ivybuttons) | 1431 comments I have just finished Bleed for Me by Michael Robotham. I haven't read his books before but I will be in future. A nicely crafted thriller where various story lines interwove seamlessly. An unexpected denouement too. What more could you ask for?

Well im still working on world without end by ken follett. it is really good so far. luckily its half term i get to try to finish it off.

message 82: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I finished both Lavinia and City of Glass and liked both of these. I'm now 1/3 of the way thru Worlds of Exile and Illusion: Three Complete Novels of the Hainish Series in One Volume--Rocannon's World; Planet of Exile; City of Illusions. I finished Rocannon's World and just started Planet of Exile in this book. I've also just started Kraken

message 83: by Ice (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) Have picked up Cloud Atlas from my daughter, who was clearing out before a house move. Have no idea if I will get on with it, and there are too many reviews to review ! Otherwise rationing myslef to a chapter a day of Shadowheart, hoping the ending will be as good as the Otherland series, and better than the end of Memory,Sorrow & Thorn.

message 84: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I'm reading Travels with My Aunt by Graham Greene. Quite amusing!

I completed I'm Watching You by Karen Rose today. I thought it was a good book.
Currently I am reading:
World without end by Ken Follett, it's taking a long time to read but i am over half way through.
also i am reading
The secret circle: the initiation and the captive part 1 by LJ Smith. i nearly finshed it

message 86: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I'm enjoying Sister by Rosamund Lupton and it's really good. It's a slower paced book, but very emotional. The book is mostly about the bond between two sisters, but there is one line where the mother reveals something about herself and the way she related to her daughter that completely broke my heart! I'm only a third way through, but so far this book is living up to my expectations.

message 87: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Still reading Sister and I have to say it's a real find. I'm just over half way and I think I'll be up late tonight with it. Probably more of a "girly" read, but extremely well written and very engrossing. I wasn't sure I'd like the format to start with, the narration is a letter from a woman to her younger sister who has been murdered. It descibes the events leading to the court case against the murderer and includes her emotions and thoughts. So far - excellent!

message 88: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Ok, I know I've gone on and on about Sister by Rosamund Lupton, but I finished it last night (putting aside Fire Study and valek for the evening) and it's superb. Firmly on the favourites list and I thoroughly recommend it!

message 89: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I finished Worlds of Exile and Illusion: Three Complete Novels of the Hainish Series in One Volume--Rocannon's World; Planet of Exile; City of Illusions and the very last story made the whole book worth while. Am glad I read this one even tho its not my favorite work of hers, I still thought it was pretty good.

Am still reading Kraken and am determined to finish simply because I don't like to quit. And I just started The Oracle of Stamboul

The Star Rover: The Great Reincarnation Novel

Difficult to find a copy but worth it.

message 91: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I decided to put Kraken on hold and started reading Clockwork Angel instead. So far I like it better than the Mortal Instruments series.

Mortal Fear by Greg Iles
You're Next by Gregg Hurwitz
Suspect by Michael Robotham
I hope I don't get nightmares!

message 95: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (booksdingle) | 4 comments I'm reading Moving On by Simon Weston - he came to my old workplace and did a talk once and he was so inspirational - I felt like reading something inspirational and real after reading a few novels!

message 97: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I'm currently 2/3 of the way thru The Oracle of Stamboul and about half way thru Clockwork Angel and so far I just love both of these.

message 98: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I've finished Travels with My Aunt - very good! 61 Hours is an easy, but not compelling read. I'm also reading Bleak House.

message 99: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I finished both The Oracle of Stamboul and Clockwork Angel and really liked both of these.

I'm currently about 1/3 into The Secret of Lost Things
