Thanks for the recs, and especially since I actually happen to already own like 6 outta the 8 that you suggested. Saving $$$ is AWESOME!!! =-D

I think for this challenge I am going to read The Hunger Games. Oh, and I would love to have someone to read Outlander with! I too am a tad daunted by it's size. O_o Let me know when you feel like hitting it up, we can help keep each other motivated! LOL

message 253: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Hello Photojim, I hope you find something here that you'd like to read! My favourite genre is historical romance so get ready for some regency era fun! :)
I'm kidding - I'll try to stay away from them.

New author:
This is one of my favourite HR authors, but don't worry, she writes contemporary as well!
Kasey Michaels, Love To Love You Baby
New series:
I started this series not to long ago and am loving it. The Dresden Files #1 - Storm Front
New genre:
Steampunk - Soulless. It's historical but there's werewolves and vampires and automatons to distract from all the corsets and lace.
Weighty but wonderful:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's a slow start but a fantastic read.
Save some $$:
Wild And Willing, Harlequins are cheap and this was one of the 2 Blaze I own which seems to be more your style than all my regency romances (if you'd like a regency though I'd gladly recommend one ;).
Neglected and nearly forgotten:
JPod - I haven't read either of the books in your TBR, although I did read one of the later Reichs books and I wasn't overly impressed, so I gave you one that's been on mine TBR list forever instead. I keep on thinking about reading it but I'm allergic to dust so I'm afraid to touch it :)
Fun #1:
My favourite book, and 1 that I find is always good for a chuckle, is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The rest of the series, although not nearly as good as the first, is still pretty humourous so I'd recommend the next one that you haven't read yet: Life, the Universe and Everything
Fun #2:
Another series I love for laughs is the Jeeves books by P.G. Wodehouse. They're all pretty good to read but they're even better in audiobook (if you like that sort of thing). If I had to pick one, Carry On, Jeeves was good.

Macwolf01 [Elise] (macwolf01) | 1012 comments Hi Atumn, here are your picks:

A. Try Something New

1. New Author: The Bride by Julie Garwood (you like Quinn & Laurens ... so hoping you love Garwood too)
2. New Series: Dark Lover Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward (must read ... I haven't meet anyone who doesn't love this series)
3. New Genre: Killing Floor by Lee Child (suspence/thriller/mystery)

B. Better You

1. Lose Weight: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 550pp (probably my Fav book of 2010)
2. Save Money:
3. Get Organized: A Knight in Shining Armour by Jude Deveraux (since Sept when you started)

C. Enjoy Life More

1. Good Omen by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman (you like Gaiman, I like Pratchett ...I have this on my shelf too)
2. Something About You by Julie James (CR its been recommended to me twice)

Hope you find something you will enjoy, if not let me know!!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Thank you Sara!

Kasey Michaels looks promising.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Dresden Files and this is probably the front runner.

Soulless is another good choice. I've seen the cover and been tempted.

I keep hearing the slow start about the Larsson but hear that I really should read this.

90% of the time I'm willing to read a Blaze. The hard part is finding one if you don't already have it.

JPod looks intriguing. Always up for an amusing book.

Read the Hitchhiker 'trilogy' many times over. There are a few hundred to a few thousand sci-fi/fantasy books that I did not go back and list once I joined GR. This apparently is amongst that group. Great books though.

I've read excerpts of Wodehouse in a British lit class in college. Funny stuff but I don't know how it would be for a whole book.

Given all of this, I'm not sure which of these excellent choices I'll read. It will probably come down to which I find first.

~Sara~ | 667 comments Photojim wrote: "I've read excerpts of Wodehouse in a British lit class in college. Funny stuff but I don't know how it would be for a whole book..."

I usually listen to these while cooking so I've never actually sat down and read one. I can see what you mean.
I was wondering about the Douglas Adams. Most of my previously read books, especially sci-fi and fantasy, get added as other people talk about them and remind me of them. With how quickly you read I figured there was a fair bit missing from your list too.

message 257: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Thank you Kerste (and thank you for the message with the post #)! I like to read things I wouldn't normally so having different tastes is a bonus for me. The hardest part for me is always picking which one to read.
I'm leaning towards Shit My Dad Says because it keeps grabbing my attention everytime I see it but I own Lady Sophia's Lover and Twilight so convenience may factor in. I'd like to read Changeless but I'm not good with cliffhangers so I'm waiting until I have the 3rd to read it. I think Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood only made my TBR because my sister recommended it and usually that's not very good incentive for me (our tastes are completely different) so that one will probably continue to wait. Lover Enshrined will also have to wait since, although I like the books, Ward's writing style drives me insane so I have to work myself up to reading her books.
I'm not familiar with Stranger or Nightwalker so I'll have to check those out before I make my final decision. Library availability is usually a pretty big factor for me too, especially this close to all those Christmas bills! :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Sara, Shit My Dad Says is funny, but it will take you all of 45 minutes to read. It's more of a booklet than a book.

Thank you for the wonderful picks Angelique, I actually enjoy Nora Roberts, I've read 27 books from her In Death series, but I've been pretty daunted by her other books, she has so many mini-series, and from the blurbs they are all pretty similar. I started reading the first book in her Bride Quartet series when it came out and it was a little bland, so I didn't finish.
I will be reading On the Edge for sure, also Darkfever, I've been planning to read that series for a long time but wanted to wait till the last one came out, which will be soon, yay!
Don't worry about The Historian, I feel the same way, it's really long and I understand that it's pretty difficult to follow. Oh well, maybe in 2011.:)

Happy New Year!

message 274: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Hi Tugce
Sorry it took me a little while to do your picks. I wanted to make sure I had time to give it some really good thought.

A. Try something new

1) New Author:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson - I have heard that this is a great book and want to read it myself.

2) New Series: Fantasy Lover Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, #0) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - This book is a little on the lighter side for the Dark Hunter series but it is a fun read and will be a nice introduction to the series.

3) New Genre: Storm Front Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher - I notice you have some sci-fi on your TBR list but not very much. This is the first of a great series involving a wizard for hire. I've read it and also listened to it on audiobook form (it is narrated by James Marsters - Spike from Buffy/Angel shows).

B: Better For You

1) Lose Weight:
Infinite Jest Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace I noticed you tend to read fairly large books so I picked the one that had the most pages - over 1000 WOW!

2) Save Money: Jane Eyre Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë - I notice you had read Wuthering Heights and Jane Austen books and rated them highly. I found this on your TBR list and it is a book I have read and re-read many times. I always enjoy this book. It is like reading a gothic romance rather than reading a classic.

3) Get Organized: Lover Unleashed Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward - Since you are new to Goodreads you don't have a lot sitting on your TBR list being lonely. I picked the second oldest - the first I used in another section :~). This is a great series that I was just recently introduced to and love it.

C. Enjoy life More:
1)Fun Pick:
Undead and Unwed Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson - This is not on your TBR list but it is a funny vampire story book. Basically Chic Lit Vampire style.

2) Enjoy life More: Covet Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward - I notice you like J.R. Ward books. This is the start of a new series that I have heard is great. It is going to be read by me soon.

I hope you find something you like on this list.
Joyce

Some of Nora's mini-series are repetitive, but her romantic suspense (Angel's Fall, tribute, Divine Evil, etc.) novels are a lot like the in death series. And you'll love the fever series, it's addictive! I'm glad you choose that one.

Sorry for the lateness. I've been partying these few days XD. Anywaz here's your long waited list.
ENJOY && Happy New Years && Enjoy the reads~ =))

A. Try Something New
1. New Author: Comanche Moon by
Catherine Anderson- This a western romance book. And its one at the best. I absolutely loved this book. Forbidden love between a native American and a white person. It can’t get any better than that. XD
2. New Series: Dark Prince by Christine Feehan - This is a series you should try. It’s a great series filled with possessive alpha male vampires and independent vampiress.
3. New Genre: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa- It’s a YA fantasy with a tinge of romance novel. It’s a pretty good book and I saw that you don’t read this type of books much.

B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight: Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey- Firsly WOW 1000+ pages just wow. I think this is big as a book can get. The rating is pretty good too.
2. Save Money: Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank- Yeah, I haven’t read this book but I’ve skimmed it and im planning to read it soon and plus it has a good rating.
3. Get Organized: Lean on Me by Cherise Sinclair- I saw that this is the most neglected book on your tbr list. A book you added ages ago but never read.

C. Enjoy Life More
1. Sweet Vibrations by Melinda Barron- The title just totally sounds fun to me ;))
2. Savor Me Slowly by Gena Showalter- I skimmed read this book and boy did I love it. Im planning to properly read this one soon.
