Rawan I bought the Dexter books and have never read them though I do like the series. I loved The Hunger Games and enjoyed Slaughterhouse 5. I have Divergent on my kindle wish list. However I struggle to start Crime & Punishment and Lolita just isnt my thing.

Got some good reading there ( except for the novice.....)
Rawan I bought the Dexter books and have never read them though I do like the series. I loved The Hunger Games and enjoyed Slaughterhouse 5. I have Divergent on my kindle wish list. However I struggle to start Crime & Punishment and Lolita just isnt my thing. I was just reading reviews of lolita and it looks like the kind of book you need to read it over and over again to understated it so I have second thoughts now.
I've never seen Dexter the show but reading the book and honestly I can't stop reading , it's really good.
Divergent might be even better than the hunger games , the start kind of annoyed me but it gets better , I am reading it right now .
Crime and Punishment was actually recommended to me by my aunt she loves that book and wanted someone to discuss it with so I promised her I'll read it , it's a classic so it should be enjoyable .
Yes I have heard good things of Divergent. The Dexter show is fab.Not all classics are great or enjoyable in my humble opinion.

Yeah I agree but from what I've heard about C&P , I think I might enjoy it .
I put Darkly Dreaming Dexter on my cell and was reading it all the way home from school , I don't why I just like it , it's pretty interesting to go into the mind of a killer .
Decided this morning to download The Warmth of Other Suns rather than listen to it. There are some books that are chock full of information and while I almot catch everything by listening sometimes I prefer to read. So I am now listening to Making Toast by Roger Rosenblatt which tells how he and his wife live with their son-in-law and their three grandchildren when their 38 year old daughter suddenly dies. To say it is sad is saying a lot.
I generally don't plan ahead since I am a modd reader but I hope to begin The Alchemist as soon as I finish The Weight of Silence and March Violets.
Bev wrote: "There seems to be a lot of vampires, zombies and dystopian books around at the mo."They're definitely is, especially in the YA genre! I'm 17 and in every bookshop I've seen, the entire YA sections are taken up by Vampires, werewolves and dystopian novels. It's OK for me because I love fantasy and that kinda thing, but my sister doesn't like those books and it's much harder for her to find a book she likes these days.
It seems rather like an insult to teenagers to assume that they are all so one-dimensional in their tastes.
Bev wrote: "There seems to be a lot of vampires, zombies and dystopian books around at the mo."I think the vampire trend has been going on for awhile(I remember reading Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' vampire books and attempting to read Twilight in high school), but I think all the zombie and dystopian novels is a new trendy.
Elise- it does kind of seem like an insult to teenagers to assume they're all one-dimensional.
Thats exactly what I was thinking. There should be more choice for all ages. I guess publishers and book sellers are just pushing for what they think will sell.I like such books but I am getting ready for a sea change in new books. ( Not a teenager - 42!)
I am also amazed at how many vampire, werewolve books, etc are being published and read. I for one think there are much better topics than these books but that's me. I did read both the Twilight series and the first twoHunger Game books and din't see the accolades but I don't suspect I will like 50 Shades of Gray either. That said I may begin one of Cassandra Clare's books next.
It's all very limited. You've pretty much either got to like paranormal books, romances, dystopian or science-fiction/fantasy as a YA.

"Nice choice Rachel. I do like the pern books and I have a Cormac McCarthy book to read too.
Once I've finished Afghanistan, Where God Only Comes to Weep, which is apallingly written (I'm doing it for a challenge), the plan is like this:
Course, it won't happen like that, but it's a good plan!

Both are very good going so far. Haven't started Titus Groan but I think (optimistically) that I'll like it because of my love for the language of a book...

I always thought I would love Titus Groan but I never have. It is not about the writing style but the POV of the author I think.

Three to Get Deadly
