I found it hard at first to stick with Life of Pi too, but to me, the ending made it worth it.

Elise (Geordielass) | 27 comments Just finished The Kite Runner - another wonderfully vivid story from Hosseini - I do hope he writes more soon.

So on to The Book Thief so that I can belatedly join in the group read. Looking forward to this one, I've heard such good things.

No reason to be sorry. Very few books suit the plallets of all readers. In fact, I don't know any that do. I'm glad your enjoying the Jack Reacher stories.

I found The Watchmanto be a fun, sound read, exciting and worth reading. I also enjoyed The couple of Jack Reacher stories I read.

I'd recommend them to anyone, though I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

It may be that by the time you get to "The Watchman" that Crais's style settled down and became more interesting. I don't know. If you decide to take it up, I surely hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

I tend to recommend reads that I liked, since, I'm really the only one who's tastes I can be sure of.

It's a bit different style of book but you might like Konrath's Jack Daniels series, or, the book I like better than those, Lucy Guiardino in Snake Skin by C.J. Lyons.

Snake Skin by C.J. Lyons

(of course, I have written reviews on these books, not that I'm anything more than a grumpy old guy with an single minded opinion.)

Elise (Geordielass) | 27 comments Finished The Book Thief - I loved it and I cried (I'm a sad git). Then to cheer me up I finished up my re-listening of the h2g2 radio shows with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Quintessential Phase.

Now getting on with The Two Towers. Next on the agenda is a re-reading of Catch-22 which I loved when I was 20 or so. Hope I still love it.

I won a First Reads giveaway this week too (Redhead) so will have to get onto that sometime soon too.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading Gold by Chris Cleave. I loved his previous books Incendiary and Little Bee and have high hopes about this book which features two Olympic cyclists. I am also listening to Peter and the Starcatchers.

I really did - here's my review - http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Only problem was, it just wasn't quite as good as A Thousand Splendid Suns, but that gives me hope that Hosseini's next book will be even better!

message 777: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading Gold by Chris Cleaves just in time for the Olympics and listening to Dorothea Benton Frank. I read Frank's first book Sulliovan's Island and guess I wasn't blown away by it since this is only the second book I have read by this author. So far I am enjoying Porch Lights but not Gold that much. And this is disappointing since I loved his earlier books Incendiary and Little Bee.

message 778: by Dani (new)

Dani Just finished Wonder by R.J. Palacio , about halfway through Catch-22 by Joseph Heller for monthly read and started to read an e-book loan of Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson while also still trudging through last month's read of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde ( I know, classics make me become a slow reader!)

message 779: by Bev (new)

Bev (greenginger) | 296 comments Dani I am the same with classics!

message 780: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I ended reading Gold by giving it four stars. While the ending was unusual for Chris Cloeaves it was a worthwhile read and especially with the Olympics beginning tomorrow.

I am currently listening to Porch Lights which most likely will be my least liked book this month. I am also reading Play Dead by Harlan Coben and The Fallen Angel by Daniel Silva.

I found this book at the library, when it was first published, because of the beautiful cover on the first edition. And I loved every page of this book along with Coming Home, September, etc. After reading The Shell Seekers I went back and read every book she wrote and loved them all. I continue to reread many of Pilcher's books as they are so comforting. Do hope you enjoy this book - please let us know.

message 787: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) At the moment I am reading nothing. But not for lack of trying. I began both The Fallen Angel by Daniel Silva and Play Dead by Harlan Coben, two of my favorite authors and found after a few pages that I had no urge to continue either book at this time. I am off to the library this morning where Night Circus is waiting for me and maybe I'll pluck a great read from the stacks.

message 788: by Dani (new)

Dani I have 5 I am currently in and then I decided to begin the massive undertaking of the rest of my TBR list (in no order) It currently has 1200 to read so I thought it was a nice round number, I copied it to excel spreadsheet (because I didn't like how it format printed on here) and I am going to highlight after I finish reading them. I will still use GR to update the one I am currently reaading and post ratings/reviews- however I challenge myself to finish the whole 1200 (as long as I can find copies of them all! FINGERS CROSSED) before adding more. I wonder how long this will take- how long do you think?

Marion Hill (kammbia1) I'm currently reading The Opposite of Art A Novel by Athol Dickson by Athol Dickson. I've been looking forward to this one after reading his last novel, Lost Mission A Novel by Athol Dickson last year and it became one of my favorite reads of 2011.

If you always set books to "currently reading" as you read, on GR, and want a rule of thumb estimate, then if you haven't already set a 2012 personal challenge on your home page set one up for yourself with, say, 120 books for this year (it will count all the books you have changed from currently reading to read since January 1st, though it won't count them if you went straight from tbr to read) - if you are on target or ahead, then it looks like it will take you less than 10 years to complete (!), if not, then even longer!

Sharon Louise Am just about to start Linwood Barclay's "Fear The Worst", haven't read anything by this author before. Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay

message 797: by [deleted user] (new)

Right now, I'm reading Speak No Evil by Allison Brennan and Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper Case Closed by Patricia Cornwall.

I've read the Brennan book before (about 5 years ago when i first came out), and I really like it. Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about the Cornwall book. I like reading about serial killers (good thing since i have a masters in criminal justice), but this one just isn't getting off the ground for me.
