I have been meaning to rfad this for forever. Somehow, though, I never pick it up. Don't know why, though.

message 657: by Marion (last edited Jun 22, 2012 09:37PM) (new)

Marion Hill (kammbia1) I'm currently reading Bag of Bones. It is my first Stephen King novel and different than I expected.

message 658: by Jack (new)

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) King always seems to be different than people expect. The same went for me, but I think I was biased because the literary world is biased against him.

How's Partials, Dani? I'm a big fan of Writing Excuses, but haven't gotten around to anything Wells has written yet.

Venus Plus X by Theodore Sturgeon Venus Plus X by Sturgeon is half novel, half commentary on the roles gender plays in our society. People who say SF isn't literary have never read Sturgeon, I can say that.

Bag of Bones is much more of a literary novel than a genre novel. That's what surprised me. Interesting so far.

I will write a review on my blog when I'm finished.

Beth | 7 comments I finnished reading The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, which was brilliant. I am now reading her next book - Half Broke horses and I am loving it. Jeanette Walls has a brilliant way of writing non-fiction, that you almost think its fiction. I would really reccomend her books. If you enjoyed The Book Thief, then I would reccomend Marcus Zukas's other book book The Messenger.(in the USA it was published as I am the Messenger)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Bev and Beth - I really loved it! I wish I had a bound copy and not just the audiobook. I said as soon as I have some money, I'm buying one.

message 673: by Aiesha (new)

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) Well... I've been suckered into reading Fifty Shades of Grey. I really had no intentions of reading it but a friend of mine wanted me to read it with her!! So far, it's ok. Some parts are annoying but I'm not sure what to make of it yet since it's still early in the book. I will surely write a review when I'm done. It'll have to be very good for me to read the other 2 in the trilogy!

Hi Aiesha I read the three books and I would say that apart from the erotica and the typical romance stuff there is still something to them. Stick with them and read them back to back if you can.

message 691: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 26 comments Currently reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James - the latter being some of the worst garbage I've read in a long time, if ever. I will finish reading it, but the only real place that book belongs is in the trash can lol ...

message 692: by Elise (last edited Jul 02, 2012 07:18AM) (new)

Elise (Geordielass) | 27 comments I've just started on my own personal mammoth challenge - to read at least 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction book from/about every country in the world. Since I couldn't decide where to start I'm just doing alphabetical.

So I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini A Thousand Splendid Suns (for Afghanistan) which I'm really loving so far (10 chapters in). If you haven't read it and have any interest in reading books set outside of the "Western World" I can thoroughly recommend it.

message 693: by R.J. (new)

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 31 comments I'm re-reading a fellow indie author's crime thrillerLovesick. I read most of the story on Harper Collins' online slushpile authonomy.com. The story has since been through an edit and made into an ebook. It's a crackingly witty and dark story set in London, always a plus for me. I will put my back into reviewing it. The story is definitely good enough to be on a shelf in your local bookshop and well worth being on your kindle. More anon.

message 694: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Working on Monster Hunter Vendetta by Larry Correia. Book 2 in the Monster Hunter International Series. It's as much fun as the first one. Definitely not a stand alone though, it relies on the groundwork laid in the first book, but it's good.
