Thinning out is a great goal...but I'm afraid this is another challenge that will make my Everest increase! Just spotting all the other great reads on everyone else's lists throughout the year...FUN!

You couldn't be more right, I'll probably never catch up at the rate I'm going...lol

Same here. Plus, my add dates on GR are all over the place. I'm always finding books I didn't know I had and adding them on here but have had for years. And books where I bought #6, 7 & 8 before #5. Eek! But since I have so many on my TBR I guess I could be selective. ;)

I'll allow everyone to pick 2 books added to their bookshelf within their first 6 months on GR, that they actually want to read. The month/year you joined GR is stated in your profile.
The "no changes" rule will stand. But, I'll modify it to: changes between now and 12/31/10 are allowed. No changes to your list once the challenge has officially begun on 1/1/11.
My reason for this is so that we all actually stick to the list we've created and take down books that are on our TBR stack in 2010. Otherwise, we will continue to change the list as we buy/add new books throughout 2011. I do the same with my challenges. But, believe me, knowing you can't change your list also offers some amount of freedom, as funny as that sounds, because your choice is gone, list is made and now you just have to read them. Just make sure you list books that you really want to read and you'll be good. :)
Ok, I've taken off my mom-cap and made my "just do it, it's for your own good" speech. I hope y'all will join us. But, it's supposed to be challenging AND fun. Not a torture method. LOL!

LOL! I feel ya. You're welcome to make your list longer, if you'd like. Just remember to stick the (newly revamped ... see above) rules. :)

I've been obsessing about this all day going over my lists and books to see which ones I know I really want to read. I'll stick with 25 books for now but if I complete that easly I'll just climb the next mountain...lol!

Do they all have to be UF/PNR? I don't have a problem, just want to know in advance.
See, you're already sucking me into it after I told myself "No changes? Hell no!"
Steph said:Great idea. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do the same. It would be wonderful to be able to "reach the summit of several mtns" next year. I know more will pop up to take their place, but at least I'd feel like I'd made a dent.
I know what you mean I'm hoping to read 150 books from now until the end of 2011, thats an average of 11 books a month which isn't out of the question. I was hoping for more books read this year then I did but my long time BF and I kinda decided to take some time apart which was hard but I'm starting to bounce back now and 2011 will be better!!!!

No, they don't all have to be PNR/UF. I don't have a specific # in mind. But, the main goal is reading what you've got on your TBR, so I'm flexible on genres for this one.
Yay! My

Yes, here's to 2011 being a fantastic year for everyone!

I've only had a couple of "can't change lists" challenges and thankfully they've actually been a motivator to get me to read those I have passed on for whatever reason. The key is to list only the books you know you'll want to read. :)

I'm in the same boat. I don't own most of the books on my TBR shelf & I can't get alot of them from the library. My list is going to depend on how many gift cards I get for Xmas.

That's why I'm not posting yet! I would end up posting, get excited about it and read before the challenge starts. No waiting for me, I'm all about instant gratification, lol.
