continuing with
because it was on top of my unread pile and i really should keep a tight rein on my book spendings these days. hahaha..
btw, i'm still trying to read every post i've missed all this time. how are you guys? i miss doing this more than i thought, hope everyone's doing great.

Hi Jati, I've recently finished AMoL too! I've also followed the series since about ten years ago. So glad the story finally came to an end with a very satisfying conclusion.
Agrees too that Sanderson delivered quite brilliantly :)

i see you're much like rachel and me then. glad to find a fellow WoT nerd. hahaha..
have you also read sanderson's way of kings? i have this compulsion to recommend that book to every fantasy nerd i know. so far, rachel hasn't taken the bait. but seriously, it's that good. so good that i've got one paperback to destroy reading over and over, and a hardcover to put on my top shelf. hahaha...

Way of Kings convert here. I am indebted to you Jati for recommending that gem. Good to see you around dude.
@Jati & Reza, yep, a WoT nerd here :) I'm also a Sanderson's fan! I knew him from WoT, then read his Way of Kings and immeditely fell in love with his writing. Then I read Mistborn and became a devout fan ever since.Way of Kings is a must for every fantasy lover! Especially the hardcover version with all the drawings! :D
I love both Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. I absolutely love the last book by RJ in the series, Knife of Dreams, in which I think he got his groove back. There were a lot of cool scenes in there that left me cheering for the characters.I appreciate Brandon's work in The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight. He has a way of creating characters that I felt I fell in love with all of them all over again. But I couldn't help but notice that the scenes that got me excited from Knife of Dreams were missing in these two. I think he lacks RJ's knack of creating awesome scenes.
When I read A Memory of Light, every time I came across a scene that fell flat, I kept thinking that it must have been Brandon who wrote that particular one. I know, I'm bad for thinking that. But well, I just think this last book is almost an anti-climax to the whole series.
But The Way of Kings is great, though. I can't wait for the second book to come out.
If there's a Tower, I wanna be a Brown Ajah! All this talk about the WoT series got me a little bit nostalgic about when I first started reading the series. The internet had just been introduced in Bandung. I remember looking up this series on the net and what I found was mind-boggling. There were thousands of fan websites created for Robert Jordan while other authors only had a handful. Everyone was speculating and coming up with theories about Min's viewings and Perrin's and Egwene's dreams, etc. It was fun times.
I'm reading The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. It's so good, I want to cry because I finally get a book that really appeal me so much :")
Woah, hello fellow WoT nerds! I'm in the middle of Towers of Midnight, and so far I'm loving it! The Perrin chapters are a bit hard to get through sometimes... I really don't like the World of Dreams and since this time around it is very much focused on that, it's been a challenge. But I love all the others - Mat, especially.
I am loving all the 'moments' that Sanderson is creating. I don't know about you, but I've always felt that Jordan didn't really explore the feelings of the characters? (Till this day, I still had no idea how Nynaeve had a thing for Lan in the first place). It was just, poof, poof, poof. But I feel that Sanderson is making the effort to include us in those romantic aspects of the story. When (view spoiler) Man, that scene is still lingering in my mind. What can I say, I'm a romantic. I can't help it, I need to have those moments.
I guess Femmy and I differ in opinion, lol.
But I agree with what you said too, Sanderson is making us fall in love with the characters all over again.
Is Ways of Kings really that good? Ugh, just thinking about the commitment that it'll require is already giving me a headache. Haha.
JATI! WELCOME BACK. I'll need to re-add your BB. I lost all my contacts.

One of the things I love most about Brandon is that he creates such interesting romantic story lines for his characters, which I rarely find in the fantasy genre. The Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris, Warbreaker, all contains great love stories.
OMG, really? See, that's the push I need to get started on a book/series. The love stories. Interesting.
mistborn does have all that love story thing going. a very good one, though i did get frustrated sometimes waiting for the fights. it's kinda hard i guess when the fightscenes are especially good :p
but rachel, elantris has a good love story with not too many fight scenes but i really loved it.
i read his last one The Alloy of Law which is set after mistborn, but this is an easy fun read with a good love story if you're interested.

Thanks, Jati, for that comment on The Alloy of Law. I keep going back and forth about buying it because it seems that it is set in a time like the Wild West and involves guns and such. I just can't picture magic and guns going hand in hand in a story. But your comment may just nudge me into buying the book.
I'm reading Sherlock Holmes and The Baker Street Irregulars #1, by Tracy Mack and Michael Citrin. Translated version, though. Haha.
@Mbak Femmy, I'm not really into Wild West either, but I found The Alloy of Law is a very fun and interesting read. Aside from what Jati has said, TAoL also has strong characters that are easy to be rooted on (the trademark of Brandon Sanderson, that is :) )I'm now reading Room. I'm not usually read this kind of thing, but it keeps me interested so far.
I'm reading
. Anyone had read it before? I really like it, like a mix of urban fantasy and police procedural :)
@Ren, the series has caught my eyes for some time, but I can't decide yet whether to read it or not, because of the love-hate review from the readers. Is it that good?

LOL, I had read the reviews too, but for me, I really like it! Maybe you can try to read the prequel
. It's a graphic novel :)
Hey guys, I would just like to direct all of you to the Book Nominations thread right here to help nominate books for our May group read. The genre chosen is romance.
Thanks, darlings!
On a different note, just finished Towers of Midnight and will start And Then There Were None tonight!

Currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I'm not a Stephen King reader, but it's a good change and pretty interesting a third of the way in!
I'm currently reading Tender is The Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I always have a thing for classics :)
Currently reading the first book of Fforde's Thursday Next series, The Eyre Affair. So far so good. I like his Nursery Crime series better, though.
Currently reading The Stranger's Child, it's thick I hope I have enough drive to finish it. I think Hollinghurst have a way with words that he can tell a rather bland subject in most readable paragraphs.@Namida: I found The Book Thief very touching and its characters memorable
Just finished 'Sputnik Sweetheart'. This book really consumes me. I was reading it on the way somewhere with the TransJakarta bus, and I really wanted to cry, but I hold the sadness back since I wasn't at home back then -_-" Will move to 'And Then There Were None' but I need to take down the whole Sputnik euphoria before read another book. :))
currently reading The Light Between Oceans for one of my reading challenge. still very early on the book though.
I'm waiting for my copy of And Then There Were None to arrive (I bought it with my Open Trolley voucher!). In the meantime, I'm currently reading a non-English book, i.e. Titik Nol. Amazing book.
Currently re-reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. On the waiting list are And Then There Were None, An Abundance of Katherines, and Delirium. I really need more than 24hrs per day! Phew!
Just finished A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M Basso and I'm currently reading The Life of Glass by Jillian Cantor. Pretty good so far :-)
Currently reading Twerp which I got from netgalley.

I'm currently reading What Our Mothers Didn't Tell Us: Why Happiness Eludes the Modern Woman. Has anyone read it? The Indonesian edition is Wanita Salah Langkah?.
Dewi wrote: "@Lynossa, OMG Patrick Ness latest book?! A must read!"
YES! And in September he's going to release another YA book. I can't wait, He's one of my most favorite authors.
ps: Lionsgate Entertainment that produces Hunger Games has acquired the Knife of Never Letting Go. Let's hope this is going to be awesome!

I am currently reading The Great Gatsby as I want to read the book first before seeing the movie. I started also Defending Jacob but then put it down after about two chapters or so, also Hobbit, and Wonder. I am keen on finishing GG, though. Don't want to have that 'shark, if the movie is like this, wonder how the book is' feeling.
Anna wrote: "Whoa I'm so excited to see people start and finish their reading materials!I finished Room a few days ago and now I'm juggling between Lolita, The Spire, Of Bees and Mist, and Garis Batas."
I read Of Bees and Mist about three quarter down and then stopped. Don't wanna be a spoiler so I won't tell why I stopped. I'll pick it up again someday. Promise.
Lolita, too. About halfway through. Room I finished in a blink, couldn't put that down.
I've finished Tiger's Curse Saga yesterday. And right now, to neutralize YA effect, i'm reading Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy. Just open the first page, and i hope could finish it soon.
