We're reading two of the same books Megan! I just finished The Host, it was great...will be reading Soulless soon!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm glad you liked the Host, Bekah! So did I. More than Twilight, I think.

message 453: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments It was definitely deeper than Twilight...I think though that she is just a great author...I can't help but devour her books.

message 454: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I was surprised at how much more grown up, mature, her writing was for The Host, which was written before Breaking Dawn according to her website. So it wasn't just a matter of maturing as an author, she knows how to write for the YA audience as well as the adult!

message 455: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Huh. Interesting info on The Host. I thought about reading it back when I read all the Twilight books but then never did...

message 456: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I was not in a hurry to read it...especially when I found out it was about aliens...it was on my radar...but really really low on my radar. I'm glad joining a challenge brought it higher up on my to do list via Alycia!!!

It was fascinating...the conflicts that the plot presented.

message 457: by D.G. (last edited Nov 11, 2010 02:47PM) (new)

D.G. I'm not a fan of Twilight (and I read the 4 books) but I loved The Host! Loved it!

message 458: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Does it have any steam in it? Yeah, I'm a hussy.

message 459: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Not like you want...but there is love and romance..and a tiny tiny tiny bit of steam, but no lovemaking.

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Bekah wrote: "Not like you want...but there is love and romance..and a tiny tiny tiny bit of steam, but no lovemaking."

*sigh* That's what I was afraid you'd say.

message 461: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I know, I know, but I didn't miss it. Really.. Though the steam was good enough to make me wonder what kind of lovemaking scene she could write?

message 462: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Maybe I'll read it one day. Honestly a book doesn't have to have a lot of steam if it is written very well and holds my interest. Like with the Twilight series, I was hooked on those books straight through to the end, and it had little steam in it.. but you're right, the little she DID write made me wonder what she's capable of writing! I want to read THAT book! :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I remember a pretty interesting sex scene against a wall, Bekah. You don't remember that?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments No, this a great book, Cheryl. I didn't miss the more graphic sex either.

Great minds think (and read) alike!

message 472: by Megan (new)

Megan | 546 comments I started The Host a long time ago and only made it around 50 pages into it. Later I was told I should have read the first 100 and I would have been addicted, figures! I'd like to try to read it again though because it does have really good reviews.

message 473: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments That's the truth, Megan. The first part isn't all that exciting. I stopped about 2 pages before it got exciting and my daughter laughed at me.

message 474: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Luckily I didn't have that problem, I was pretty fascinated by the whole concept from the beginning. Which is weird for me because I'm not into sci-fi at all. Or at least I don't think I am....

IMO The Host is the best written book by Meyer so far and it is targeted to an adult audience. If you want to borrow it I can send you my copy. Let me know.

D.G. Ooooh I've heard great things about that Victoria Dahl book. I need to get my hands on a copy!

message 487: by Megan (new)

Megan | 546 comments I have been seeing this Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) by Victoria Dahl everywhere on GR's lately and had to request it from the library, I'm so weak!!! What did you girls think about it?

message 488: by Megan (new)

Megan | 546 comments I'm suppose to start The Host by Stephenie Meyer on audio book next week at work because my coworker wants to read it too, but isn't a reader, so I get her audio books, lol. But I have owned the copy for a long time and it has been sitting home collecting dust. I may have to start reading it soon and listen to the audio book at work, I'm such a nerd, sigh....

message 489: by Katherine (new)

Somebody was comparing it to Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie , for the humor in both I believe. Since I recently read Bet Me and loved it, I thought I might like this one too.

My to-read list is unnaturally/embarassingly huge, and then I go and read a lot of books that aren't even on my to-read list. Its a vicious cycle......

That's why I only join challenges where I have at least 90% of the books. :) I hate having books gathering dust on my TBR. :)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I've read Bet Me, though it was awhile ago, but I would say, so far(since I'm not done) Talk Me Down is better.

I got about 120 pages in last night..or early this morning and was having such a good time, and it was so hot that I went to look up the rest of her books and (CONFESSION): I bought six of her books!! At like 2 this am... however...let me justify this...I bought the two left in the series online for 3.98 a piece and then the other four I bought for like 3.40 a piece and then one for 2.99....so that's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Where has Victoria been hiding all my life?!

PS: Now I hope this one book wasn't a fluke and I didn't just buy 6 crappy books. But honestly, she's talented...it can't be just confined to one book!
